  1. No problem, it has some really nice crappie in there too. I caught the biggest crappie I've ever seen in that pond on the cast just before I hit that big bass and memorial day weekend the fiance hooked another nice size crappie. I think they stocked it with cats crappie and lmb, also I'm pretty sure fisherman coming off the river sometimes drop there catch in the pond. I'm not sure how good the bass are in there since the flooding, I have only hooked a couple and only one looked to be a good 4lb or so and I didn't land him as I got caught up on some foul line and he shook the hook. I think some of the bigger fish vacated the pond and headed out to the marina when that whole area flooded. I don't really do the facebook thing too much drama.
  2. I caught that nice one in my profile picture out at the marina when it was still flooded on a rapala scatterrap minnow in firetiger. It gulped it and just put ont he breaks. I thought I was hung up at first. I"ll have to look into that Trice Landing you were talking about. Have you ever fished the pond over by the marina? I pulled a real nice 5lb LM out of there in mid april before the flooding.
  3. If I was going to spend $150 on a spinning reel I'd drop a couple extra bucks, about 10, on a Quantum Smoke. Which I totally am going to be doing as soon as I have the extra cash and can convince The Fiance to let me.
  4. I've never used a net before but after my last fishing trip I'm definately going to invest in one with a nice long reach. I had to go swimming to retrieve a fish that my fiance had got caught up on a bit of foul line and a partially submerged tree. It was just out of reach and if I had a net with me I could have probably reached out and got it.
  5. Thanks for the access spots I was gonna ride around this weekend and try to find some good spots to fish from.
  6. Yea I'm not big on skimping when it comes to tackle I go into every trip with the mindse that I will probably lose something and that it's all part of fishing. The fiancee isn't quite on the same wave length yet, she hates it when I come home and she sees an empty spot in my box that once held a nice lure. We did however come to a fairly ok agreement recently on fishing expenses. I'm allowed 20 bucks from every pay check to spend on fishing tackle however I see fit no questions asked. Doesn't seem like a lot but its a good fit for our budget right now and I'm more than happy with it.
  7. The one I actually have has some sort of rubbery material around it. I haven't noticed any damage to the fish with mine. I was just quickly grabbing an example with that image.
  8. I keep a fish basket for extended fish keeping from the bank. I've had up to a 5lb LM in it for an hour while I waited on my fiance to get there so I could document the catch.(she was supposed to be there in about 5 minutes...) It does no harm to the fish as its a large enough basket for them to move around in and its in the water with water passing through it. You can keep a large fish alive in one of those probably all day long. Example fish basket:
  9. Thanks for the advice guys. I greatly appreciate it and feel like I now have a good starting point to work from.
  10. So I'm thinking tossing a trigged worm into a current break or maybe even a weightless senko if I can manage to get it right in there could be pretty good. Do you think it would be possible to effectiviley fish in a river weightless? Thinking maybe tossing a swimbait a bit beyond the slower current spot and getting it in there and working it slowly through couild work, but I don't really know. Any more tips anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
  11. So let me give you a little bit of backstory, I live in Clarksville. I'm 10-20 minutes from two rivers, the cumberland and red rivers. I have only fished a river once and that was from a bluff about 20 feet above the river when I was about 10. I do not have a boat nor do I have access to one without renting. In short, I'm shore bound. So with suh proximity to rivers I would naturally like to fish them. They seem to have small mouth, large mouth, stripers, and of course a couple different types of cats. Now the cats I could probably catch, they are a simple fish when you really get down to it. I've never seen a small mouth in person let alone catch one, and I would very much like to do so. Any advice or tips for bank fishing a river for bass?
  12. I was fishing yesterday out on small lake/big pond and the wind was horrible. I was hoping to cast a wieghtless senko for a while but experienced the same issue your refering too. I always cast side arm as I can't seem to cast overhand with my baitcaster with out backlashing or slapping the water hard and short. Ever cast the wind would pick up create a big bow in my line and the senko wouldn't sink it would just get carried quickly by the water back to shore. (I don't have a boat so I'm always fishing from shore) Obviously this was a huge problem and basically made fishing the wieghtless senko impossible. I'll have to give dropping the rod tip quickly after the cast a try next time I'm fishing in windy conditions.
  13. Hey there I have been looking around online at tn bass clubs and haven't found anything that looks like good option near me. I know there is atleast one bass club here in clarksville that is open to non boaters but it's invite only and I'm not sure how to even go about joining. Anyone know of any well managed, friendly bass clubs that are open to non boaters near Clarksville,TN?
  14. Figured I should pop in here and introduce myself. I've been lurking on the forum and the website for a while now. Got here from flukmaster's youtube videos. I've been fishing since I was a little kid. My fondest memories of my father and my childhood center around fishing. I've become a good deal more serious about bass fishing in the last year. I fish every chance I get, be it at a local pond, cove off the river, or any of the major lakes here in Middle TN. Don't know what else you guys would be interested to know so I'll just share my pride and joy set up I picked up a couple months ago. Rod: 7ft Medium Heavy Fast action Abu Garcia Veritas casting rod I love this line of rods they are sturdy and super sensitive. I don't think you can find another rod of this calibur for $100. I plan on picking up another one of these soon for a spinning set up. Reel: Quantum Smoke SL100HPT Baitcasting reel 7.0:1 I love this reel. It's my first baitcaster, the learning curve moving to a bait caster can be frustrating but I feel like the quality level found in this reel has helped to mitigate the frustration and for less than $200 it's hard to beat. I plan on getting another smoke but in a spinning reel to pair up with the spinning setup I mentioned above.
  15. If your worried about them taking line you can dial up your drag, but honestly it's no big deal better they pull line than you have your drag so high they snap it, unless your running on low line and your worried about getting spooled.
  16. So recently there was some pretty substantial flooding here in clarksville. The river rose about 15 feet the local fishing pond flooded like crazy and I believe the waters intermingled with the water coming off the river that feeds into the cove where the marina is. They are all very close to each other. Now I've been fishing this pond pretty heavily for the last few months and hadn't noticed any gar up until today. I totally struck out for the second time here since the flooding seeing no bass. Not necessarily uncommon since thye appear to be in full post spawn. However, I saw a bunch of gar some small 1 - 1 1/2 footers up to a pretty decent sized 3-4 footer. I was wondering if you guys think these gar are a problem fish for this pond, its not huge but its not small either, or if these fish have possibly always been here and are just active right now. It kinda seemed like they could be spawning, I pretty much saw two every time I saw one. Just want to know if maybe I should target these fish (as difficult as that can be) or just let them go about there business. Hope that wasn't too much reading and made sense.
