  1. thanks I'll get out the schematic and break it back down and see if i went wrong somewhere.
  2. So I cleaned up, re-greased, and re-oiled my Quantum Smoke baitcasting reel yesterday for the first time. (I'v done basic cleaning and oiling but never broke it down to this extent before) I watched glenns recent video and the videos he linked to on the process. However I went fishing this morning and lost a good fish because when I tightened down my drag the reel handle was difficult to turn. This was not a problem before. Any ideas what I may have done or suggestions for what i could try to do to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I even used Quantums Hot Sauce Grease and Lube.
  3. So I'm very intrigued by the drop shot and its effectiveness. The water I typically fish ranges from stained to muddy. How effective is a drop shot rig in stained to muddy waters? What is your favorite bait in these conditions? Do you change anything about your presentation?
  4. sunscreen...being lobster red is painful.
  5. I'm still building up my collection the bait monkey has me in a deathgrip and his teeth are sunk in to the bone.

I just started fishing frogs myself so I can't tell you what my favorite is. However, I can tell you one that you should definitely stay away from. The BPS Kermy. They look amazing but they are crap quality. They take on water on the first cast and sink like a stone. I just got an evolve nervous walker frog yesterday. It's super soft and looks great. As long as it doesn't sink like a stone I expect it to be a very good frog.
  7. First off, lets get this out of the way, make sure you go through all the articles. They are absolute gold and invaluable to anglers of all experience levels. Second, the advice you got above from new2bc4bass on rod and reel selection is pretty good. Third about colors in dark waters you can't go wrong with chartreuse. Also you said your in Louisiana so craw imitations would probably be pretty good for you, going with this logic red and other craw colors would probably be good bets. Good Luck and welcome to Bass Resource.
  8. the first picture had me thinking 2.5 the second picture makes me think it's probably closer to 3.5 to 4
  9. You guys have convinced me to keep at it. Thanks for the advice and such.
  10. I've been looking for a good buzzbait looks like I'll be giving this a try.
  11. How deep was the fish caught? 3-4ft on a very deep sloping bank Did the lure contain rattles or have hinges?no rapala minnow style crankbait Was the lure a natural color (brown, green) or was it an unnatural color (chartreuse, orange)? FireTiger If possible, what moon phase was your PB caught during? Not sure.
  12. I started fishing on spincast gear back when I was a kid. I have used spinning gear here and there but never with any frequency until now. I am starting to think it was because I was fishing a small 1/8 oz spinnerbait instead of what I really bought it for which was the drop shot and finesse plastics. I was hoping to be able to dual purpose the setup for fishing rapala cranks and tiny spinnerbaits but I think I need to get a light baitcaster for that stuff.
  13. So I recently bought a decent spinning set up to throw drop shots and more finesse rigs. I've been fishing a bait caster for about 3-4 months straight now and I am finding that fishing the spinning reel is very awkward in my hand to the point that I don't like using it much. I was pretty set on buying an additional spinning setup after this one but now I've probably changed my plans and will be buying another baitcaster that can fish lighter rigs and pretty much chocking this spinning outfit up as a loss.
  14. I like them, caught the one in my pic on a firetiger minnow model. They seem to draw in alot of big strikes, however, the fish do miss much more than with a traditional crank. To me this makes the scatter action a double edged sword. It draws them in like nothing I've seen however the same action that draws them in also causes them to miss.
  15. Unfortunately while I can say, ya Kenneth did have the original concept it can hardly be called anything more than a concept compared to the "bait ball". Kenneth's crank while a good idea appears to simply be a picture that is printed out on some of that decal paper and stuck on the crank. They actually went so far as to design 2-3 small baits to place within a three dimensional space to achieve their result. If it has been worked out to the extent that I would expect and it runs true is durable etc... It's honestly leaps and bounds ahead of Kenneth's original design. I believe, to enough of a degree that he would stand very little chance at winning any kind of legal battle regardless of his or Kopper's financial ability.
  16. Has anyone used this product? I went ahead and bought one but haven't had a chance to try it out.
  17. I don't get mad if I get skunked once but if I go out and get skunked 2-3 times in a row then I get mad.
  18. I've had good luck with with the BPS XPS Flat Cranks as well as there super shallow line of cranks. Haven't fished any of the others much yet.
  19. Personally i prefer a Colorado blade over any other most of the time. That thump can draw a bass in from further than it can see the lure.As far as the comment about flash. They give off less flash than a willow leaf blade, however get one that is hammered and the flash it does give off will, in my opinion, better represent a school of bait fish. As stated above those colors are excellent colors to pair with a Colorado blade. Not to hijack your thread, but has anyone tried those sickle blades?
  20. I have a Quantum smoke and I love it. They are super light I've only had mine since early April but I have had no issues with any excess noise. I have fished it heavily since I purchased it. 2-3, 4-12 hour trips a week. I would imagine as long as you perform proper maintenance it will never have any serious problems.
  21. Oh yea no doubt vibration is your best friend in these conditions. Use the vibration to lure them in and use your color selection to give them something they can more effectively lock on to.
  22. It's been raining pretty heavily here all week (TN) but here I'm pretty much always fishing stained to muddy waters. My advice, you don't have to go big necessarily,as far as color you can either go dark, or you go can go bright. Now is not the time for super realistic/natural bait colors. On the darker side, Black, Blue, Purple, and maybe Junebug. As far as bright, Chartreuse, Chartreuse, Chartreuse. If that isn't working Maybe try a big ole pink worm. Also personally I would say enjoy the rainy days while they last, fish when you can. It got bright today and atleast where i was fishing they got a nasty case of lockjaw compared to the last week.
  23. Welcome, there seem to be plenty of us on here from TN. I'm from Clarksville.
  24. Yea I like the marina after it floods. When the water is up over those rocks you can really catch some big bass over there. In fact my profile pic is at the marina after the last bit of flooding.
