  1. Yes the looks like the first gen. I picked up 3 of them this year for $30 bucks at Walmart. Great as loaners and if you want to try out new techniques.
  2. They take your equipment here in Massachusetts. The DCR guys here can usually peg the people without licenses by the equipment you're using. Or at least know the chances of someone fishing with a higher end rod and reel will have a license. Forget the fines.... I wouldn't be able to live with myself if they took my gear. Yes I would buy the license. I rather do research on buying the license then doing research on the penalty.
  3. This topic comes up enough with my friends and myself. We discussed in detail. 1: what are they fishing for? If they are a family and kids and fishing for sunfish, I can usually cast further than them. It really doesn’t bother me. Let them be, one day that’s you and your kids. 2: If they are bass fishing, usually the people around here do have the etiquette. Here's the key, if they look like they KNOW what they are doing and are intruding on your space, it can get annoying. This is when we whip out a bottle of JJ's Magic, dip and cast as close to them as possible, within your comfort zone. My definition if "intruding" is if I lose more than 50% of real estate i have prior to them showing up. If i can take a few steps and get more fishing area, i'm ok. Life is too short to be angry at the little things. For those that are against the whole etiquette rule, you have it good. Around me I have groups that come into the space i'm fishing, be loud/obnoxious and annoy you enough so that they can take over your spot. Have that happen to you a few times and then come talk to me.
  4. Very cool story. Thanks for sharing
  5. I think I'm just use to it. I don't notice the switch at all. On spinning setups I keep my hands fairly close. Probably 2-3 inches from the bottom of my right hand to my left index finger. My right hand closes the bail after the cast and lands right on the handle.
  6. I cast right and reel right with both spinning and casting. I definitely like using my left hand for finesse actions. I throw and write with my right hand. Play hockey and shoot pool lefty. Weird combo.
  7. Throw a black worm, throw it past them and slow retrieve back to you. Wait the 30 seconds after the initial splash. I always throw a very safe and calm color when bass are on edge.
  8. How big is the area? Are you able to hike around or are you stuck to a certain area. If you want big fish, then fish for big fish. Go scope out the water. Where are they hiding? Where is it deep (in case it's hot out)? The best advice I can give you is do homework if you are bank fishing. Then buy big baits.
  9. Double palomar. Just loop it twice before wrapping it around the hook. I wet the knot out of habit. Pulled tight together with tag and main line. It was the first knot I learned how to tie. I just do it that way because it hasn't broke on me yet.
  10. What he said... I dont use any other knot but the double Uni... in all fairness, the Alberto kept failing me because when I was using Vanish for Fluro. Make sure you wet the lines when you're tying the knots. Good luck.
  11. Its tough without seeing how you're fishing, but slowing down as others have said would be your best bet. Let the bait sit at the bottom for 10-15 seconds. What works for me is changing up the baits. I try to have on me at least 3-4 different soft plastics and in both light and dark colors. I have to play around with mixing these up if i'm not getting bites. Can you see any bait fish? Try to mimic the colors. Good Luck
  12. i use to set the hook just like you... then when i tried the sweeping hookset and it worked very well, i switched. Mainly because I can use the sweep going to 3 or 9 o'clock, depending on where i casted.
  13. Texas rig my Ikas (solid tubes). They are my confidence bait. I've caught a wide range in size of large and smallies with them.
  14. If you don't need to buy new, you can get a Crucial for that price. Great feel and probably the most sensitive rod I've felt. I like the mojo bass a close second. I've tried the vendettas (1st and 2nd gen), veritas, f&s tech spec, premiers and triumphs... All in your price range. Go with the crucial if you can find a deal. You won't regret it.
  15. Hey Will, thanks for the reports. I read all of them last week. Haha. Thanks again for the reports. Out here today. Hope to have a good outing. Hi crestliner, I've seen your photos. You kill it out there. Thanks for all the posts as well. You both are a true asset to the North east forums.
  16. There are plenty of places to fish north of Boston. Use google maps. Pretty much anywhere where there is a body of water, there will be fish.
  17. Same thing happened to me yesterday. Mine could have ended worse. Had an Ika with a 5/0 ewg at the end. The hook has been on there for about 7 trips. About 15 fish caught total. Never thought about retying. Launched the bait a little off target.... Almost right at a boater. Not too close, but close enough for them to notice. Whew!
  18. Keep using the Vanish and skunks will come more often. Just gave away a spool myself. Told a friend to practice tying Alberto's and double uni knots. Keep up the good work. Summer has been rough. Just started catching fish again in the past two weeks. With the looks I'm getting from other guys fishing, everyone else had the same bad luck I did for a couple of weeks.
  19. My short experience with fishing has been limited to lakes, ponds and rivers...all from shore. I'm going to be fishing the Quabbin soon and renting a boat. What kind of advice can you give me? Its my second time out on the boat(first time didn't go so well), so I know the area pretty well. I've had success from shore, being on the boat is a different story. No fish finder either. I'll be fishing for anything that bites. PM please if you want to chat privately. Thanks!
  20. I see this from both sides.... but a ticket is ludacris. They should have just educated your buddy with a warning. Unless your buddy was being rude... I wasnt there, but the conversation could have just went bad and the DNR just felt like being strict.
  21. I could do my 7'2" MH crucial worm and jig... would be weird, but I could make it work. Definitly my 2500 smoke is coming with me... One of my favorite setups, but i've been doing more top water so that bad boy has been given time off.

  23. Closest thing I could find. http://www.grandebass.com/home.html http://www.bigbitebaits.com/Coontail%20worm.htm
  24. There's no way you made it that far.
