Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I really have to unsubscribe to this thread! It's costing me alot of money! But then, if I do, I may miss something I "need" to buy. Oh the agony! LC

Knot For Tying Braid to Leader
I've been using the alberto, but have been having issues with it lately for some reason. Lost 2 baits during cast from the knot either breaking or slipping. I'm going to start trying the uni-uni for awhile to see if I like that better. LC

What are these called?
Lol that's why he wants them so bad. He's caught lots of bass on them and they're his #1 confidence bait. LC

What are these called?
He's looked and could not find any. I told him to check the crappie lures and still no luck. He's only been able to find them in the little starting tackle kits that come with cheap combos. Now that I know they're called jig spinner forms, I was able to find some online. Looks like we'll have to buy the spinners and jig heads seperately. I have a bunch of the beetle spins in my crappie kit but all the jig heads are pretty small. LC

Quality 2 piece spinning rod under $100?
So I'm finally starting to get through to my fishing buddy on bass fishing and using a bit nicer equipment. He currently uses a $30-$40 Shakespeare combo with a rod action that could only be described as "limp noodle". I mean, the tip on this thing wants to point at the ground with a weightless plastic rigged. SMH. I'm going to be giving him my Lews Tournament Speed Spin reel when I pick up the Team Lews spinning reel, but he insists on a 2 piece rod. I only use 1 piece rods with the exception of an ugly stick I use for panfishing and bottom fishing with live bait, so I know next to nothing about 2 piece rods. What's a good 2 piece spinning rod that will have a nice tip, good all around power, and sensitivity under $100? He's starting to throw more baits but wouldn't be interested in multiple rigs so something that can cover alot of bases would be helpful. I'm thinking a 7' MH Moderate fast maybe. I've tried talking him into a baitcaster and he even enjoyed tossing my Lews around for a bit, but was one of those bit by a cheap 1 bearing Shakespeare baitcaster in the past and had a horrible experience and refuses to switch. What are these called?
What is this style of jig head called, with the spin blade on an arm? Nevermind the little plastic that's attached. My friend loves using these round jig heads with the spinnerblade and a white or pearl grub but can't find them without buying a kit each time. I'm trying to find them online for him but all I can locate is the kind with the blade attached on a swivel directly to the head. Thanks! LC

Low-profile Reel for Swimbaits?
I'm thinking of getting the new Lews Super Duty for swimbaits when I get into throwing them. Got a few baits but need an appropriate rod first. LC

Lews fans
Well, I ended up going with the Team Lews Tournament Pro Magnesium. I know in my OP I said weight doesn't make a difference to me, but now after receiving the reel and fishing with it today, all I can say is WOW. This thing is LIGHT. I ended up putting the reel on my 7'1" MH Fast rod, replacing my original Tournament Pro. The combo together is very well balanced and light as air. The ACB braking system works flawlessly. It took me a couple of times to get it dialed in, and it backlashed twice, but after I had it setup properly it handles amazingly. Still doesn't cast quite as far as my original TP, but I think once I get accustomed to the weight difference, it will be better. I have the brakes set for a buzz bait right around the 2 mark, and I think once I get used to the weight I will be able to turn them down even further. I still can't believe how much difference an ounce and some change makes in the weight of the reel. Completely blows my mind. I'm now thinking of replacing my TP with either a Tournament Lite or another Magnesium. I just wish the BB1 came in a featherweight version. That thing is a tank at 7.1 ounces compared to the magnesium at 5.3 ounces. The BB1 Pro is almost an ounce lighter than the BB1. Hmmm. LC

VMC Weedless Wacky Hooks
That looks awesome. So you're just tying an overhand knot around the shank below the eye, and looks like maybe a dab of superglue or something? Color me amazed lol. LC

VMC Weedless Wacky Hooks
Darren can you post a pic of how you rig this up? I use the same hooks for wacky rigging but have never attempted to make it weedless. LC

ARE Rod Pods on truck without bed cab
I don't know what their called but there's these frame things I see on some pickup trucks....they follow the contours of the truck cab and can have things mounted to them. I've seen ladders mounted mostly. ETA - ok I Google it. Ladder racks. Here is an image of what im talking about. There's lots of different styles though. ETA - check this out before dropping all that coin on the rod pods. http://www.yakangler.com/blogs/staff-blogs/item/3634-building-a-rod-tube LC

Fishing with Braided Line
I've got my Lews Tournament Pro spooled up with 50lb moss green power pro for frogging, jigging, and t-rigging and it handles just fine and doesn't seem stiff at all. LC

Do we have a fishing superstition thread?
I know there's lots out there. Let's here your best. One of mine would be the first cast catch. 9 times out of 10 if I catch a fish on the first cast, I end up not catching another fish. I've also heard about bananas on the boat. LC

Bringing them out into the light - Bass under docks
I would try to peak their curiosity and draw them to the edge with a moving bait, like a spinnerbait, crankbait, jerk bait, etc casted parallel with the dock as close as you can. Have your jig rigged up as a follow up bait on a second rod. When they come to investigate, flip the jig to them. I'd also be trying to toss a weightless senko wacky - rigged right next to the bass beside the dock and give it a few shakes. LC

What do you use to cut braid?
+1000 to the boomerang tool. I asked the same question not long ago and someone recommended it. I picked one up from Amazon and love it. I keep it clipped to my tackle bag on one of the zippers. Love the fact that it will cut limp braid. LC

topwater frog question
I like that frog and thought about getting one but where I normally fish a frog, trebles would be a big no-no. LC Lol hadn't thought of that. May give it a go! LC

topwater frog question
It was one of the Bamabass videos but I can't find the same one now. I watched it on a different device yesterday and couldn't pull up the description. LC

topwater frog question
I'm used to using hollow body frogs from spro, livetarget, KVD, and booyah. I was watching a youtube video where a guy was using a frog that had a popper mouth, but also sounded like it had rattles in it. What frog is this? LC

Anyone else get spooked on Topwater bite?
Lol all great stories. I'm sure the results may be different from the Florida and Louisiana guys that have to deal with the gators. I might have to change my pants after one of those. LC

Anyone else get spooked on Topwater bite?
So it's been awhile since I've fished topwater other than a frog through some grass, and I've been throwing a buzz bait and popper around the past two days. Twice yesterday, a bass smashed my buzz bait very close to the bank and it scared the bejezus outta me haha. I immediately went for the hook set instead of waiting to feel the pull and missed the fish, partly because my hookset was more of a startled jump than a swing of the rod lol. Today throwing a popper, my retrieve was over and I was reeling up to recast and a 1.5 pound bass came crashing out of the water about 2 feet from my feet, again causing my stomach to flop up and smack my heart lol. He hooked himself this time and I got the fish in, but man I gotta practice topwater more often. LC

Safety Safety.............For GODS SAKE!!! SAFETY!!
Well let me be the first to say that it's a good thing it was just a puny 9mm and not a .45acp or you may be missing that arm. All jokes aside, glad you're ok and this is one of the reasons I stopped going to public ranges. Just too many people out there that don't know what they're doing and don't understand the repurcussions of failing at gun safety. LC
