lost a nice one cos i used the wrong gear..
Had something similar happen to me, but it was hook related. I decided to throw a little rapala minnow around with my spinning rod, and I had previously replaced the hooks with some cheap eagle claw trebles, unsure of the size but they're tiny and less than sticky sharp. Anyways, I know this term is used alot, but something hit that lure that darn near jerked the pole out of my hand. Like, I almost literally lost my whole setup. Well it pulled and I pulled back, and and fought it for about 5 seconds and it just disappeared. I still wonder if it was a bass though. I had just previously caught a Gar that hit pretty hard, but not like this. LC

Good replies here. I think I may just go with the team pro magnesium. I'm really digging the looks and the lighter weight can't hurt, plus there is a 15% bonus points for using the cabelas club card on that reel. LC

Crankbait Starter Rod
My cranking setup is a Lews BB1, not the pro model, in a 5:1 ratio with multi stop anti reverse. I started with a Berkley Lightning Rod Shock in medium 6'6" and I could absolutely bomb a KVD 1.5 across the lake, heavier lipless cranks even further. I would describe the tip on this rod as moderate to moderate fast. Kept fish buttoned pretty well. I only upgraded because I wanted a longer rod. LC

Braid for spinning gear
15lb yellow power pro for me, tied to either an 8, 10, or 12 pound red label leader. LC

I hate the taste of traditional spam but recently had some bacon flavored spam. Bacon makes everything better. Yuuummmy was it good! LC

Dogs and spooling rods/reels- warning Graphic
The horror! THE HORROR! Where is the NSFW warning! I worry more about my cat pawing around. The dogs don't really care but the cat seems to take notice to my shiny hook filled fish shaped lures. I bought lure wraps so she wouldn't accidentally hook herself. LC

Crawfish imitation
Live lobster from the grocery store tank. Big bait = big fish ;-) Go big or go home! All joking aside, I prefer the rage craws but for a jig trailer I really like the big bite chunks. LC

Have any of you picked up both the new Tournament Pro G and the Team Lews Magnesium? Notice any differences besides the reduced weight and cosmetics? I've narrowed my new reel choice down to these two and wondering if the Team Lews is worth the $80 price difference. Weight is not usually a factor for me as I seldom get to fish long enough for it to be a factor. Those cork hybrid handles and gold accents do look quite sexy though :evil grin LC

Animal digging hole around pond?
LMAO beat me to it! The thread with the picture disappeared for me! Hard to tell from the pic. Any droppings nearby? Is this a place you can setup a game camera? LC

Monofilament Line
I use Trilene XL on my crankbait/top water (besides frogs) rod. Everything else is braid. My finesse setup I put a floro leader but the mainline is still braid. For me personally, it's castability. I think braid casts far easier on a baitcaster in my experience, and when I do backlash, I find that it's easier to pick out the loops. I also don't worry about the braid being kinked on a backlash like I do with mono. LC

Leader knot?
I like the Alberto and always tie the braid. I've been scared of the FG due to the complexity, but this is the best video I've seen on how to tie it so far. I may give it a go. LC

How does rod speed/action affect sensitivity?
Let's not turn this into an argument and get this one locked guys. As for my original question, basically if you take the same manufacturer, same length, same line, etc, one rod is heavy/extra fast, the other rod is Medium heavy/Fast - will there be a noticeable difference in sensitivity, enough to affect my perceived sensitivity on bottom contact baits. Reason being is I'm going to be getting a new reel and will need to get a new rod for it, and what I have so far is: Fines spinning setup with medium power rod Medium heavy fast rod for bottom contact, which may become my spinnerbait rod if i get a new rod Moderate speed rod crankbait specific Medium heavy with a spongy tip that will be given away if i get a new rod. The rod loads considerably with a 1/2oz spinnerbait I was not asking about price points, whether sensitivity is perceived differently, etc. Just hoping someone who has maybe had the same exact rod in a different power has noticed differences. I don't mean to come off crass and I appreciate all the comments thus far, I just don't want an argument and locked thread. I think I might just be looking for an excuse to buy a heavy rod, lol. As far as measuring sensitivity, my thoughts were that there must be some device in our world that can do this. Some kind of small sensor that can detect vibration, and assign a numerical value to that observed vibration. Think of a Richter scale but a micro version that can be stuck or glued to the reel seat, exposed blank, etc. This would result in a standardized measurement process - Rod A has a sensitivity rating of 7.5, rod B has a 9.3 etc etc. Each user could then base their "perceived" sensitivity on this number, or use it as a starting point. There must be a way. Where's our bassresource scientists and engineers lol? LC

How does rod speed/action affect sensitivity?
Thanks for replying guys. I do wish there was a way we could reliably test sensitivity. Maybe with some kind of vibration sensors mounted to the rod where the hand is held, and a repeatable tapping or pulling of an attached line with no variables. I mean, technology has brought us as far as sticking vibrating lights in a rechargeable lure, why no reliable scientific method to testing sensitivity, taking the human variable out of the equation? How does rod speed/action affect sensitivity?
So I'm thinking of picking up a heavy rod with an extra fast action for flipping grass and heavy weeds/vegetation. I'm also thinking of having this rod double as my bottom contact t-rig/jig fishing rod. From what I could find, the heavier the power, the less sensitive the rod is, however, I also read that the faster the action the more sensitive the rod. Would the extra fast tip offset the heavy power when it comes to affecting the sensitivity? Should I just keep using my 7'1" MH/F rod for bottom contact baits instead of the H/XF? LC

Bank Fishing Tips
Try to find a spot where you can cast parallel to the bank. Start up close and work your way out - 1 foot off bank, reel back, 2 foot off bank, reel back, etc. Walk up slow and as quiet as possible. Stay back from the edge a little bit. If you're throwing alot of power baits and fast moving baits, slow it down. Try some finesse fishing. I've caught more fish off the bank with finesse this year than I have anything else. LC

Not Biting Bass
I've had lock jaw days like that. Enough to think that the few fish I did catch, I must have tossed the lure into their mouth while they were yawning or something. Sure wish I could figure em out. LC

Anyone else feel this way....
I always ask my mom what she's getting me for mothers day. After all, if it weren't for me she wouldn't be a mother! She has actually asked me to take her fishing on Sunday so it's a win-win for me. I'll buy her fishing license and respool her reel with fresh mono and pick up fresh bait. She's looking forward to it. LC

Anyone ever get ticks where they fish?
On a recent camping/fishing outing I sprayed down with this Repel stuff found at walmart. 40% deet. I sprayed my clothes, boots, hat, hair, and skin. I found no ticks on me after leaving the island. My buddy that went with me didn't spray and found 4 seed ticks on him upon returning home. He is ex-army and said next time he is eating some match heads like he did in Iraq. Guess the stuff works ok lol. LC

Windows 10
Have any of you taken the plunge? I'm a Windows 7 Pro user and absolutely despise Windows 8. Is 10 more like 8 or 7? I'm getting prompted for the free update and I'm sure 7 will go the way of XP sooner or later. Any problems with 10 users? Did anybody moving from 7 to 10 notice any huge differences? LC

You tube channels
I subscribe to a few. I do enjoy the Jon B videos, as well as Sydney Sewell. The disturbing trend for me is the gear review videos posted by 12 year olds. It's frustrating when trying to research a product and every kid out there with a cellphone is posting their review saying "um you should buy this reel because it's a good reel because this thing spins and I've caught fish on it". No technical or product knowledge whatsoever. LC

How do Swim baits work?
I've been wondering what is it about swim baits that make a bass key into that bait? It seems some manufacturers go to great lengths to make these baits look as realistic as possible, swim just like a real baitfish, etc without any "attracting" features most other lures have like rattles, wide wobble, dying fish features, etc. Basically, why would a bass choose to eat the swim bait over an actual fish? I started thinking about this after seeing a particular bluegill swim bait on youtube, and lately I've been observing LMB and bluegill that appear to be living in perfect harmony together. The bass aren't attacking those bluegill so why would they attack a lifelike bluegill swimbait? LC

12' Jon Boat mods and weight limit questions
Thanks for the replies everyone. Brian, thanks for the links. I actually started digging around and came across a couple of those last night. Looks like some good deals can be had. I actually found some pretty decent looking "bass" boats on there for good prices as well. If I only had a truck! LC
