Kayak for Lakes - Pedal Drive vs Electric Motor Pros/Cons
I have a slight preference to peddling. I feel like I have a little better speed control. I enjoy the exercise. I don’t always feel like peddling if I’m going any distance. It takes up a lot of deck space. If I’m just out to fish, I use electric.

Fishing pants
I found that I never converted my convertible pants. For a heavier pant, I like the Wrangler Riggs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0789694L6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

Cheap ways to get on the water?
I wouldn’t go out on a kayak this time of year without a wetsuit or a drysuit which can easily eat up your $150. Add in a PFD , rod leashes and all the little stuff. A dry bag for dry clothes. It will be warm in a couple months. Start then. Decide you like it, then start investing in your winter gear.

Are DC Reels Really Bad for Beginners?
I was curious about DC but didn’t want to spend a lot of money on something I was unsure of, so I bought used. $245 for a 2013 Essence. Older technology, still new to me. It arrived yesterday. My initial take, as a novice, was that it was just a better brake system. It pitched real nice. I could see the line slowing down. No birds nest. Not the longest cast. Adjusting the drag resulted in a longer cast but was more prone to bird nesting. A long cast still takes a trained thumb.

Best Baitcast Reel under $200
Are there any reels under $200 that don’t aren’t made in China? I wouldn’t rule Lew’s out. Especially in that price category.

So many DC’s. So little money.
Bought a new in 2017, 2013 Essence DC on eBay for a reasonable price. Pictures looked good. Private seller had a good rating. Claimed excellent condition. No heavy use. No saltwater. Diligently maintained. Originally JDM. See if it suits me without putting out a lot of cash. Put off any major purchase until next year. I appreciate all of the insightful opinions. I feel like I’ve been schooled.

Please help a semi-newbie, I think I messed up my new Lew's baitcaster
I bought my Tournament Pro about six years ago. Used. A plain Jane compared to the newer ones. I loosened the drag too much, the cap came off and fell in the water. Duh! I contacted Lew’s and they mailed me another one free of charge. I can’t complain about the reel or the company.

Lew’s Pro Ti. MLF. Haven’t used it other than some yard casting. I liked it enough to turn around and buy a second one. MHF I’ve been depending on a 13Fishing black omen with old Lew’s Tournament Pro. MF. I’ve thought about replacing it but I’ve actually been pretty happy with it.

Who do you eat ?
You just described my childhood. Pismo in the morning for clam digging before heading to the pier to catch my limit, then on to Morro Bay to drop a crab net. I like catfish caught in clean water.

Is this a good deal?
I don’t need any of it. I’ve probably caught more fish throwing a jig line off a pier than any other method. This is pure desire. That’s why I need the best deal. I’ve came to the conclusion that the best tackle by the major players as long as it fits my perimeters is whatever I can get the best deal on.

Is this a good deal?
Good reminder on the warranty. I don’t expect it to break and for the price difference, repairs might still be cheaper than paying full price for the warranty. Comparing prices is a start, but without knowing the intricacies of each reel, it gets complicated. So many small details to overlook. I think comparing a 2020 Exsence to a 2017 Exsence would be a prime example. Still a bit out of my price range, but it may well be the last reel I ever buy...I’m sure many here have thought that before buying their next one. Next to the last.

Is this a good deal?
Open thread. Hitchhikers welcome. Please keep it within the TOU. No spamming. Keep the mods happy. You all know. Welcome to deletion if inappropriate. Looking at various products. Many overpriced while others are alarmingly cheap. I’m always looking for the catch and wondering if it’s a good deal, a really good deal, or a rip off. While I can do the research, I don’t have the years of expertise that many of you have. So I’m asking you. “Is this a good deal?” I’ll start. Rate this deal. Shimano 19 Antares HG (Right handle) From Japan $406.88 free shipping. Thank you.

So many DC’s. So little money.
I’m fascinated by the Shimano DCs. At least the hype around them. Makes me wonder why they’re not everybody's main go to. Yet I see many with greater insight than mine having maybe one or two. I’m sure some of that comes with a knowledgeable thumb. I still view them as more convenient but at a cost. Trying to distinguish one DC from another is like playing a shell game. Maybe more like buying wine. Seems like Shimano can’t make up their mind from year to year. To top it all off Shimano has DC1, DC4, and DC5 depending on the model. Hard to compare a Curado DC to a Metanium DC. So that’s my rant. What DC’s do you all have? Or don’t have? Why or why not? To get a little more specific, I’m looking for a real to put on a 7’ Lew’s Pro Ti MHF. Current rod is a Black Omen MF with a Lew’s Tournament Pro SS. (Casting) Then I have a 6’9” Pro Ti with a Diawa Ballistic 2500 that I’ve only used so far in the yard. Kayak and shoreline. Fishing style. Retired. Don’t let that stop you from talking over my head. I can hum along until I learn the words. I’m as curious about the technology as anything else.

Into the drink
The sit on tops are basically a big air chamber with sides. A number of YouTube videos of guys pushing them to their limits. Purposely trying to tip them. Some with more success than others. I have a NuCanoe and it’s very stable. With that starting out, I believe in redundancy. I put a good set of outriggers on it along with spending lots of money on protective gear. I feel very stable out there. Very safe. About took a nap the other day. Fish weren’t biting, water was smooth, sun shining, you know.
