I sometimes backlash towards the end of the day, especially if I'm tired, when I drop my arm/wrist angle a bit. I also backlash more at pre/post dawn. Other than the above and not adjusting my reel when the wind picks up, I don't backlash very much.

Since we're running out of wet fishing season here I got over to Ponkie after work again tonight. Armed with a black/yellow Whopper Plopper, a red/gold/black spinner bait and my 5" U-Tail. Water temps were 67.x The Whopper Plopper was the most popular, netting be one bass and two picks. Yep, THIS is Ponkie on a Tuesday night.

Launched at Ponkie after work yesterday. Got there about 5:45 and stayed until dark. I didn't have much with me, so I started with a clear Heddon Torpedo and weightless 5" swim Senko. It was pretty slow. Nothing on the Senko and a small bass, about a pound, on the torpedo. I left my Lowrance control head at home, but the water temp was noticeably cooler. Not cold enough to require boots, but in the mid 60's for sure. Even though it was slow, the highlight was a nice bass jumped clear out of the water trying to get the torpedo just as the sun had set so I saw silhouette against the sunset's reflection off the glass clear water.

FIshing Rhino and I are planning on hitting the Quabbin Wednesday AM, first light. Any members wanting to meet us there are more than welcome. Hope to see as many of you as possible. I have to work Wednesday so Tom and I are going to rescedule our trip to Quabbin

Hit Ponkie yesterday at dawn. Pulled in a 2-4 on the first cast on a 5" weightless Senko. My 5" Zoom and perch whopper plopper helped out for the next couple hours getting four more small bass and five pickerel. Traffic slowed by 9:00 when little Bluegill and Perch were the only ones nibbling at my baits. Had a quick install so I bailed around 10:00. I met Evan, my wife's friend's son who's beating Lukemia, at Sunset Lake in Braintree with his new fishing kayak around 5:00. I bagged a small pickerel, not much bigger than my Whopper Plopper straight away. I had two really good 'almosts' with Fishing Rhino's secret weapon. The first loss was either a knot failure or a bite through and the second was a spit. Evan caught a small bass on a chartreuse crankbait. By 6:30 the weather turned cold and windy which seem to shut the bite off. We bailed around 7:00 when the pond looked more like open ocean. Congratulations to Swamp Hawgs on a stellar year. I agree with Janderson45: you're tuned in and I need to take notes....

Fishing Rhino said they close 15 October. Tom's retired, so his schedule is pretty open, as is mine, though I've got 15 years left. Perhaps we could get a group from this thread to meet out there and close the season right.

If I remember right low to mid 70's. Tom threw Fat Ika, Rage Tail, a 7" worm whose name I forget, and a couple other soft baits. Most were green/red flake. I started with a green/ red flake Rage Tail, gourd green Zoom U-Tail and green/red flake Ned. After Fishing Rhino landed his fifth or sixth bass I started switching baits frequently. We worked off the shore in 8-10'. I caught my smallie in deeper water. Are you going alone? I've got tomorrow off and am planning on going fishing somewhere. Depending on what the 'honey do' list looks like is where I go...

40% Wacky, 60% T-Rigged

No, we hit that spot around 11:30-ish for a little while but it was S L O W. It was a funny day. Tom nailed six or seven within the first hour or two, but when the clouds cleared away the bite slowed to almost nothing. Most fish were caught close to the dock. We went far left from where we did well, another 1/2 3/4 mile and did OK. That's where I caught my lonely fish.

We got off Quabbin's dock around 6:30. It was cloudy but calm. Fishing Rhino bagged a 2+ pound smallie on the second cast, not 50' passed the launch. Tom landed another one just beyond the shallow markers so we stayed close. Things slowed down as the skies cleared so we moved along. Tom continued to pull in smallies of various size, but it was much slower than anticipated. I ploughed through my tackle bag, throwing baits similar to Tom with no more than a couple hits until I tossed a green/red flake tube in 15+' and pulled a 2-8 smallie. We started back just after 2:00, fished around the launch again for a short time, without success. The day's tally was Fishing Rhino 13, Dogbone 1. Tom had big fish of the day with 3-0 & 2-14. I'd like to fish the Quabbin once more this season to get revenge on the bass who had lock-jaw against my baits. We'll see.

Hitting the Quabbin tomorrow with Fishing Rhino.... planning on being on the water by 0630.... hope to see other members there!

Take it to your local auto parts store or mechanic and have them load test it. If it passes, keep it for a little while and see how it goes. If you think its seal was bad and water got in it, dispose of it (properly, of course) and get a new one.

Fishing Rhino and I are planning on fishing the Quabbin next Tuesday. Gonna be good! Got home a little late to pack up the kayak and head out somewhere so I beat Blue Hills Reservoir for a little bit. It was suprisingly slow, being just after a full moon, with little fish nipping at my Rage Tail & 4" wacky Senko and nary anything else. I got two little dinks to shore. They were cute, could use them as bait . Even though it was slow, it's better to see a lot of little fish @ BHR, which means bigger fish in years to come.

I have a Diawa Ardito M/F casting rod paired with a Diawa T3 Ballistic and an Okuma Citrix ML/F spinning rod paired with a Pflueger Supreme XT I keep tucked behind my truck's back seat. The Diawa is typical Diawa fit & finish and mates perfectly with the T3. The Citrix has a nice tip I can throw light baits with. Both come with semi-hard cases.

I got a good look at it. It looked like a pickerel but was brown on top, light on bottom and spotted more than striped. It fought harder than trout I've caught. Regardless, it was cool looking. I fished Little South and not Little Sandy ---- How I get home some days ..... ?!?!?!?

Yesterday was my last vacation day so off with the kayaks I went. I drove to Plymouth and dropped into Little South Pond for the first time. It's a nice little kettle and reminds me of Little Pond, just not as deep, 16' at its deepest. I spent three hours casting a drop shot, wacky rigged Senko, jointed shad rap, and my trusty U-Tail. Hooked onto a nice fish with the wacky in 15' near the middle. I saw a brown flash so I figured it was a Smallie, but when it came close to the boat it looked like a pickerel but brown on its top and spotted more than striped - a pike, perhaps? Unfortunately it unhooked itself as I tried to net it. I later took my wife's friend's son to Sunset Lake in Braintree. Evan caught a Larry on his first cast, a 2-14 a few minutes later (his PB!), and a third, roughly a pound just minutes after his second one. I caught a 1-8 and a little pickerel in the same time frame as Evan. It was quiet for the rest of the evening. The last 48 hours was pretty quiet. Perhaps it was one of those 'blue bird' periods after the rain. A great night - congrats to Evan - he was thrilled to catch a nearly three pound bass!

The Bluegill and Sunnies were doing the same for me at Ponkie this afternoon, roughly 5:00 - 6:00 pm tonight. Not a bite until dusk when I got my 4-3...
