Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Where is there safe ice? I'm just south of Boston and nothing near me looks safe. Whitman's, BHR, and Jacobs all have that gray, wet look to them.

Ar -15 Fan Boys?
I did too but prefer my Socom16 & M1A. 7.62x51 makes more of an 'impression' than 5.56... ?

A little something for summertime carry
I own a S & W 340PD. Weighs almost nothing and fits in a pocket easily. Shooting full load .357s is tough, but .38+ aren't bad.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Good to see SOMEONE got out. I've 'planned' on it but haven't. I'm not working this week, as of yet, so I might drive around to my normal haunts and see what they look like. It's almost mid February, so warm weather isn't far away.... Heck, mid April isn't far away either .... Quabbin reservoir opens about then, methinks.....

breaking rods with braid??
I'm with MickD. The only rods I've had break on me were (a) a freak occurance, and (b) a victim of my stupidity and my truck's tailgate. Regarding your using braid on your baitcaster while still on a learning curve, I'll suggest getting some 12 pound mono ($$$), start reading here: http://www.bassresource.com/beginner/how-to-use-baitcaster.html, and get out and practice, practice, practice. I started with a BPS PQ. It took me almost a full season to get comfortable with it. Keep with it, and best of luck.

Plus or minus 8 weeks and things should be warming up. I still hope to get out and try ice fishing, but won't cry if I don't.

Who makes the best line cutter?
Snap On, but I leave my $50 cutters where they belong, in the tool box.

Glad you got out. I had a small job this morning that ran just long enough to keep me off the water today.

Lead Banned by 2022
I wouldn't worry about it all that much. Between capitalism (read: alternative materials) and selective enforcement, nobody's going stop fishing their jigs, spinner baits, et al....

Lead Banned by 2022
Massachusetts banned lead of any kind under 1 oz. for fishing years ago.

Show off your Stuff
If this is your first T3, you're going to like it... I have a T3 and a JDM 1016. They cast a mile and are smooth. I keep my T3 in my truck with a 7' M/F Ardito travel rod. It makes a great backup combo.

What are the biggest problems you face while fishing?
The biggest problem with fishing.... is the reality that there's never enough time to do it as much as we want.... Don't forget your APA formatting & references! I carry a roll of TP, a couple of plastic shopping bags, and a 1 gallon freezer bag in the dry bag I keep in my kayak. If there are no facilities, I do my business in a bag, double or triple wrap it, then put it in the freezer bag and dispose of it as soon as possible.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I drove by Jacobs Pond in Norwell. It was wide open. They've got a nice kayak ramp where you can launch and stay dry. They say there are big bass in there, but I've not caught anything north of two pounds. There are lots of pickerel and yellow perch too, so odds are pretty good at getting something, even in the cold weather. It's 5' deep at its max, when water level is at its highest, just past the island with the lone rock at your 4 o'clock. ADD: What do you mean you got skunked this weekend Mike?!?!?!? That doesn't happen to you! what happened?

I went by Blue Hills Reservior and Sunset lake yesterday. Both were skimmed over. I might drive to Plymouth and scope out deeper waters.

Fenwick hmg or Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0
I own both Veritas and HMG casting rods and like them both. I prefer the Veritas. To me they load up a little better and just have a nicer 'feel' to them. My suggestion is handle both, put your favorite reel on them if possible and go with your gut feeling because you're fishing it. They're both great rods.
