I fished Canton Monday evening and Great Herring yesterday afternoon. I hooked onto a decent LMB in the lili pads at the far end but had a knot failure. Larry bounced off the side of my kayak so I’m counting it. I’d guess it was around two pounds. It hit a green pumpkin/black 8” worm. Great Herring was, well, Great Herring. I managed one white perch, one SMB, and one LMB. My whole bag weighed under three pounds. water temps were high 70’s, low 80’s. Air pressure both trips was 29.9 It’s been a tough year. Just gotta keep at it.

Fished Aaron Reservoir in Wampatuck State Park this afternoon. Covered a lot of ground, threw various soft baits, a couple topwaters, and a couple more square-bills. Would have suffered yet ANOTHER skunk this season if it weren’t for a Crappie that ate my brown/orange Ned in the 9th inning. Earlier in the trip that same Ned took off all by itself. It was T-rigged and I missed the hook-set. It felt like a good fish, for a moment. Water temps ranged from 77.x to 80.x. Winds were light from the south and air pressure was 30.1. It was overcast when I arrived and clear, bluebird like when I left.

Nope, no bananas. A nut behind the wheel sometimes, but that’s it.

@Saltysmalljaws and @Dunks N Dinks are more knowledgeable on the bigger Cape Cod waters. Lesse if they chime in.

Zero’d at Wequaquet today. I managed a few bites from perch on my drop shot. That’s about how it’s been since I bought the Ranger. I’m starting to think that’s why the previous owner got rid of it. Water temps were 74.x. Winds were nearly calm when I launched but got to 15+ within half an hour. It was cloudy. Air pressure was 30.2.

My only one rod/reel combo? My Kistler KLX 7’ FMH spinning rod with my Abu Revo MGX hanging under it. It’ll handle 1/8-3/4 oz baits, and with a mod/fast action nearly anything I tie to it will work just fine. Spooled up, it probably weighs between 10 & 12 ounces too. My reality is, however, that Kistler # 17 & 18 are OTW via UPS now…

Firstly, welcome to the forum! I have a FeelFree Lure 11.5 with their pedal drive system. It’s worth EVERY penny. FeelFree’s kayaks are a’la cart, meaning the kayak, Overdrive, and Motordrive are sold separately, which makes it easy to build up over time if you’re on a budget. I have their storage box that sits where the Overdrive goes for times where I paddle instead of pedal. FeelFree’s seat is all day comfortable too. I take the seat and overdrive out and hoist the kayak on my truck’s ladder rack to transport, so lifting it into your bed is easy as pie. If you can, drop into Banannas (Wareham) or Gone Banannas (Kingston). They’re two kayak shops that carry the most popular brands you can see in person. The Wareham store is the bigger of the two. Dropped into Ponkapoag yesterday afternoon for a couple hours and found the bite in the ON position. I caught four LMB, one pickerel, and one yellow perch with various green/red flake soft baits. Two Larries just made it over two pounds. All fish were skinny. Water temps were 74.x, air pressure was 30.1 and winds were slight from the S/SE.

It didn't hurt the little munchkin LMB who thought he could swallow a 4" Keitech Easy Shiner on an underspin at Blue Hills Reservoir earlier today.

Take a drive down to Hedges Pond in Plymouth. It's a 20 acre kettle you can wade almost all the way around. You'll find Smallmouth and Yellow Perch. Start with a soft bait like a Ned/Senko and work your way to Jerkbaits/Squarebills/Lipless. From Labor to Memorial Day there's an employee at the gate and you need a town sticker to park there. I've never had an issue parking there later in the afternoon when nobody's there. The gate's not manned in the Fall/Winter/Spring. In the mean time, fish your artificial baits so they mimic the live baits you're successful with. That should help. You might also fish Stetson Pond, Luddham Ford Pond, and Jacobs Pond. Dropped into Ponkapoag for the first time in a dog's age late yesterday afternoon. I threw a couple different creature baits, a Yozuri pencil, a perch Whopper Plopper, and a perch 5" wacky rigged Senko. Two good bass and two pickerel made it to the kayak. I lost a good bass that hit the Senko hard and fought like a pickerel (?), so I didn't play it enthusiastically. When it got to the kayak I saw it laugh just as he unbuttoned and swam off. My big bass just made two pounds. Had a couple hits on the Whopper Plopper, but all I needed was the 5" Senko. Ponkie's weeds didn't seem as bad as they've been in years past. Water temps were 78.x, air pressure was 30.3, and winds were light from the east.

I fished Hinckley's from shore for an hour or so at dusk Saturday evening and LPH Sunday for a few hours at dawn on Sunday. Hinckley's didn't disappoint, with a very angry SMB smashing a perch Whopper Plopper in roughly 5' of water. Also had a few hits and one spit-off. I got 2 SMB and a white perch at LPH. Both SMB came on the perch Whoppper Plopper and the perch liked a Duo-Realis spy bait in Goby. Water temps at LPH were 71.x and air pressure sat at 29.8. Winds were light from the SW.

I launched at Great Herring yesterday around 6:00. Got a decent SMB straight away on a perch Whopper Plopper. Nothing more until around 11:00 when I picked up two nice White Perch with a chartreuse/shad Vision 110. I moved to Mashpee-Wakeby around noon and threw the kitchen sink, shower, and the shed for five hours W/O a whiff of a fish. Water temps were 72.x -74.x. Air pressure was 30.0. Winds at GH were light in the morning. Mash-Wake’s winds were steady 15+.

If you're fishing for bass, Great Herring is a good choice. It's a LOT of water for a kayak, but there's plenty of drop offs near the launch. If wind direction is favorable, start at the point to the left of the launch. You might be able to sneak into Hedges pond later in the afternoon. You need a Plymouth resident sticker to park there. I've never had an issue in the fall/winter/spring, but the gate is manned during the day from Memorial Day to Labor day. It's a couple hundred yards from the parking lot to the water, so bring a cart if you have one. It's a couple miles from Great Herring, is only 20 acres, and has SMB and big yellow perch. I've only fished Long Pond a few times with my kayak. I had good luck at the far end, pulling some nice LMB out from under the docks and downed tree on the left, next to a garage. If you can drive a little further, over the bridge, Snake Pond, in Sandwich, is a good bass pond. Best of luck.

Spent this afternoon at Mashpee Wakeby. Hooked onto a good SMB with a LV500 but lost it as I reached for my net. Had another follow my 3.8" Keitech Fat Impact/underspin but peel off when it saw me. I tossed an assortment: LV500, Vision 110+1, 3.8" Fat Impact on underspin, 2.5" Keitech on drop shot, and a perch Whopper Plopper; covering deep, shallow, drop offs, and two humps over about 5 hours. The weather was great, low 70's, 10 - 12 mph wind from SE, and air pressure at 30.2. I've blanked 20 of 30 trips this year, most of which are on the RT178 I bought last year. If anyone on this thread, or in Massachusetts, is interested in it, send me a PM. It's time to dump it and stick to small waters with my kayak.
