  1. Goose, what grub is that if you dont mind me asking? Id like to try something like that.
  2. My favorite jerk is the olive colored xrap, which IMO imitates a distressed baby bass when fished fast. Something every pond has! Usually half or more of the bass I hook are hooked outside the mouth with jerks. They like to hit the bait broadside when it walks sideways in front of them, and they get stuck on the side or bottom of the mouth. This is why extremely sharp hooks are crucial when jerking.
  3. Heck yes! Keep popping that rod and making that jerk dance around, it turns into a reaction bait in the warmer water!
  4. Spooling with a pencil is not a good idea for a spinning reel, I have never had it work out. Over the spool, under the spool, doesn't matter, all ended in twists for me. Spooling off the end that does not loop up has always worked fine. I spool dozens of spinning reels a year, everything from 2lb to 10lb and line twists have never been a problem. The quality of the flouro, specifically the stiffness, is another thing to look at. Stiff fluoro will not work well on a spinning reel.
  5. I hated it. I just typed this in another thread but I will repeat myself here. I bought some ultra soft and within a week of fishing 2-3 hours a day (so 14-20 hours ish) it was milky white and brittle (broke like hair). I respooled and the same thing happened again. Thinking I got a bad batch I contacted yo-zuri. They said they have never heard of that happening before and asked me to send in the remainder of my 600yd spool for them to inspect, and in the meantime sent me a new spool and a hat. Well I tried the new spool and the same thing happened so I contacted them again. They said they didn't know what the cause was and offered to reimburse me what i paid for the spool or to send me regular yo zuri since I have never had a problem with that. I asked for the regular yo-zuri and they sent me two 275 yard spools, I have had the line on my reel since they sent it and its still good. I used the rod the other day and the line was as fresh as when I put it on back in August. I have never had any line do what that ultra-soft did, so I would NOT recommend it.
  6. I have both, I like the veritas much better. The mojo is just too heavy weight wise, and very tip heavy. Good spinnerbait rod though.
  7. They do have good warranty program. The costs kind of stink on low end models (costs shipping to them-$20, plus a $20 check). Before their fedex discount shipping program it cost me $45 for them to replace a triumph that costed $80 new.
  8. Lews tourney and a $100 rod There are dozens of rods at that pricepoint. Mojo, veritas, ***, duckett ghost, and many others.
  9. Yes. Love it. Beat the crap out of it and nothing has worn out. Best bag i have found yet.
  10. I tried the ultra soft and hated it. It would last about a week of fishing 3-4 hours a day before it turned milky white and very brittle. I sent it to yo zuri and the replacement did the same thing. Only line i have ever had do this so soon, usually takes 5-6 months not a week. The regular yo zuri is great.
  11. You caught him? I thought you said you bought him from a fish farm? Hint hint wink wink
  12. Fatheads (or rosy reds) are much worse. Stick with the goldfish from a reputable fish shop or catch your own green sunfish/crawdads. Crawdads make great food source for bass, both captive and wild. I'd bet you have some local neighbor kids that could scrounge you up some from a local creek for a few bucks.
  13. If we are going by what we paid instead of what it is worth then i have to change mine to my med crank rod. Won a free custom rod with a batson blank, 7'10" MMF. Have a lews laser mg on it that I paid $50 for. So $50.
  14. I dont have any really cheap equipment, ive learned to buy quality instead of replacing/upgrading low cost stuff every year. I guess it would be my slip bobber walleye rod, okuma deadeye $70 and a shimano sedona $60.
  15. I like 15# red label for those exact baits.
  16. I had that rod. Thing is a broomstick and very heavy. I returned it. It fishes like a med to mh xf. Would not recommend it at all.
  17. Good choice! The 832 is fantastic!
  18. X-Rap 08 in olive
  19. That is a MUCH better deal than buy one get one half off!
  20. You probably want a 6'6-6'9 MLXF or MLF.
  21. Yum dinger 5"- 8ct. Yum f2 dinger 5"- 12ct.
  22. I don't doubt that at all, but you also have to realize where I live.. our fish are a little different than cali fish. From what I understand, and I know it varies from location to location, but a 4lb fish in cali isn't anything to talk about. A 4lb fish wins big fish here. Seems for the most part we have a huge population of 12-14" fish, then a decent population of 17-19, then a very small population of 20". IMO it is because of the 15" minimum size limit. Let the people who want to keep bass keep the 12-14 and lets throw back the 15+... This trout lake is the exception, like i said it is stocked with big fish each year. They are hard to catch, but they are in there!
  23. Check the description for transducer, because they are offered in both versions. The traditional sonar version will say 83/200khz transducer and the DSI/sonar unit will say 83/200 + 455/800.
