Just saw a picture on FB of a bass with a crankbait in its mouth. The crank has the word "DANGER" written on the side. This was the scientific proof that the world has been looking for, bass cannot read.

I looked at it too. Wasnt too impressed with the rod. You would be better off buying the reel for $60 off ebay and putting the other $40 towards a better rod.

They were made to stand up better than the normal jigs. On sandy bottoms they excel! I do like a regular old round head though, guess I'm old school.

Nice looking set-up! I have a suggestion though, look into getting some plano 3701 boxes for your skinny stuff like hooks and weights. They are the slim model and are roughly 1/2 as thick as a normal 3700 and hold a TON of tackle. I even use them for cranks since I never put more than 2 in each compartment anyways. Cuts down on some crank tangles as well, since they aren't flopping all around in the boxes. If you take out that lipless crank box and that terminal tackle and replace them with 3701 you will likely be able to fit another 3700 in there! My local shops charge a ton for the 3701 ($9-10 each) But amazon usually has them for $7 with free shipping, and when BPS, cabelas, and sportsmansguide run free shipping days I pick them up there for 5-7 each. WELL WORTH IT!

I use the strike king ones from walmart. They are right around $25. They work just fine.

50# power pro for the thick weeds. If you think you can get by with 40# then go for that, it will help with sensitivity when dragging c-rigs. The only time I would choose straight fluoro over a braid/fluoro leader is if the water is stupid clear, like 20'+ visibility. Otherwise straight braid or braid/fluoro leader is the ticket if the word "weeds" is included in the question.

If you want to go cheap, daiwa megaforce is pretty small. Lews is a better reel though. Watching online, you can find a lews laser mg for around $60. Retail on it is $79.99.

Pros are paid to sell line, why would they try and sell you a $6 spool of line when they can sell you a $20 spool. Marketing 101. Senkos are NOT a "feel presentation" for me. I tried that, it did not work for me. It is a slack line presentation for me. Don't you think its odd that those fellas that fish for a living push $300 rods, $300 reels, $20-30 spools of line, $25 swimbaits, $40,000 boats, etc? Never see any of them recommend a lower priced option from their sponsors, well its because what they say sells product and they want to make the most money for their sponsors that they can. I love fluoro line, use it all the time.. but NOT for senkos! Senkos and topwater are the only times I use mono, and its from trial and error- not what somebody with a logo on his shirt wrote in an article or said on TV.

What about the snap, what size?

Well that I can understand, you would have great feel and be able to work the bait very well. But not dragging a 3/4 football! I feel underpowered dragging a 3/4 football with a 7'M casting rod.

Nice looking baits. Not a fan of the double hooks though, I like the VMC trebles that are made for blades. Make sure you coat those in a clear coat before using them, the brass corrodes fairly quickly. The plain brass is one of my favorite colors.

I fish muddy water a lot, I have my best luck with a double blade willow/colorado both silver, and a white skirt where there is shad, otherwise a chart/white/blue skirt. 1/4 for shallow water, 3/8 for all around. I almost never fish a 1/2.

I get at least 3 reels worth of line off a 300yd spool. Usually 4. But when there is a little bit left and not enough to do another reel I just throw it in my scrap line bin. It gets used for tying up things around the house, fixing minnow and cast nets, and backing for new reels.

Line on a reel (except for braid) gets changed every 6mo for me. That line gets UV exposure which breaks down the line, line in storage does not.

Fluorocarbon will sink and you will miss a lot of bites that would be detected with a floating mono. In the summertime a majority of my bites are just the line jumping 6" and then sitting still. With fluoro you might feel it if you have semi-tight line, but that will hinder the fall of the stick. You surely won't see it, as the line will be in the water and not laying across the surface. Braid with a fluoro leader would work, but you have to have thick enough braid to keep it on the surface. 30-50#. I have used 30# with no problems, but I prefer mono for sticks. Senko is a slack line game, line watching is KEY.

Do you mean original floater? I took it as a floating crankbait (shad rap, scatter rap, etc). You can probably throw a #7 original floater on an ultra light.

IMO for nearly all situations you only need 3 colors of jigs. 1. Craw color. (depends on what species of craws you have locally, typically browns or greens) 2. Black (black/blue, black, or black/red) 3. White, shad, or other forage color.

I use a backpack for beating the banks. I just put in what I think I will need and have more in the truck if needed. Not a fan of carrying a bag around with me, I'd rather have it on my back so I can walk around and fish without having to set the bag down and pick it up again. I carry a leatherman in my pocket and have a rapala folding measuring board, a tape measure, and a digital scale in the bag. I did just buy a spiderwire wolf bag for a boat bag when I'm fishing with someone else, very nice bag but its the opposite of what you want. Its huge. It was $50 on amazon with free shipping.
