  1. 1//16 jig head with a 2" white grub. He'll catch anything that swims and it won't be too hard for him to fish.
  2. Shad darts are a style of head that mimics a darting shad when you jig it. They are not meant to catch shad, as most shad feed on micro organisms and bugs. They do catch herring pretty well (as does anything that moves quick and looks like a minnow) and most people confuse these with shad. Shad darts were originally made for fishing striped bass I believe, but have since been downsized for everything from panfish to walleye to bass.
  3. Drop down to an offset worm hook, I have much better hook-ups with these vs EWG with flukes. When your line jumps, drop the rod tip and give it a 3 second count then just start cranking as fast as you can. When the rod loads, give it a good stout hookset to drive the hooks home. The 3 second pause gives the fish time to take it in its mouth fully and shut its mouth, the loading of the rod allows the hook to start to penetrate instead of forcing his mouth open like a hard hook-set does. You'll hook them in the roof of the mouth or corner of the mouth almost every time with this technique. Also, if you are not fishing in thick grass, leave the tip of the hook exposed a little.
  4. Under 130.... Fenwick elite tech smallmouth 6'9 ML You can find them cheaper online in various places. http://www.***.com/Fenwick_Elite_Tech_Smallmouth_Spinning_Rods/descpage-FETSS.html
  5. IF they are schooling, working it as fast and erratic as possible. If I'm just fishing a flat or shoreline then I almost always have my best luck with this retrieve. Left, right, left 3 second pause right left 3 second pause right, left, right 3 second pause etc If I get one to strike and miss then I do two-three quick jerks and a pause (doesnt have to walk), then walk it once trying to make it spin all the way around (chances are the fish is staring at the bait). They usually take it then.
  6. I wonder what charges would be filed if you accidentally shot a man in a bigfoot costume outside your house? Around here its not legal to harm anyone trespassing. But if he's in a costume of something that might or might not be real and scaring the pants off ya, would that give enough reason to shoot him? That would be one hell of a court battle...
  7. Square bill- chartreuse black back medium/deep- firetiger. I like strike kings.
  8. KVD uses size 40 quantums (even bigger than pfluegers) for all his spinning fishing. Most serious panfish anglers are also going to size 30-35 reels for UL fishing. Reason being is that they will cast more accurately, and farther, with the line coming off the bigger spool. Far less loops and wind knots as well. I have found the same. I will not use anything smaller than a size 2500 shimano for bass. That's not saying I don't have several UL reels.
  9. And then to the courthouse to pay the fine for illegal stocking of a waterway.
  10. If you pile them up in the pasture I will guarentee you they will all be gone in 2 days. Fish make great fertilizer if you are putting in any last minute plants or vegetables, just toss one in the bottom of the hole and plant on top of it.
  11. I personally would not eat them if the cattle can get that close to the lake. Chances are their fecal matter is being washed into the pond when it rains. PROBABLY safe, but I wouldn't chance it.
  12. Caught a spincast rod right in the tip with a jig head once, fishing under a dock. Put it on the dock and the next day there was a thank-you note pinned to the dock. Piranha out of a city park. Those have to be my top 2.
  13. That stinks, but it wasnt due to a defect in the rod so it shouldn't be a warranty claim. Oh well, you're rod so its you're choice.
  14. Depends on what rod you are going to put it on. I wouldn't put a size 30 on a 7' rod, nor would I put a size 35 on a 6' rod. I would say for throwing baits like that you would want the 35 or even 40, unless you are planning on throwing them on 6-8# line. For finesse fishing I would want the 30 or even 25.

The rubber kind, sinker stops or bobber stops.. doesn't matter.
  16. All casting 6'6MF with 12# mono/copoly/fluoro for topwater and light weight rigs. 7'MF with 12-14# mono/copoly/fluoro for cranks and senkos, c-rigs, light t-rigs. 7'MHF with 15-17# fluoro or 30# braid for bigger baits, spinnerbaits, frogs, etc. Substitute the 6'6M with a 7'M spinning with 10-15# braid if necessary.
  17. Thin highlighter, thick sharpie, anything like that will work. 3/8 heat shrink and clear vinyl tubing works good too.
  18. Tick the top of the grass with a crankbait
  19. I've caught a lot of bass on them while fishing for walleye. I'd say a drop shot would be your best bet. Bass LOVE leeches. When the walleye fishing is slow I'll toss a leech up towards shore just for the hell of it, and its very rare that it lasts more than 2 casts without catching one.
  20. I don't use them very much. A few years ago I accidentally stumbled on an inline bite. We had bass fished an area for 2 days without any good numbers, then we went back the next day with #5 aglias to target pike and started catching bass. We fished for 2 more days with the #5's catching bass one after another. They wouldn't touch a spinnerbait. Same thing happened 2 years ago with johnson silver minnows.
  21. I don't use those exact baits, but I never remove the front treble of any bait. I have caught a lot of fish that slashed at the bait and got the front treble, especially out in open water.
  22. I picked up a bunch of bone in the puppy and pop-r last fall. Clearance section, $1. Bait bonanza box.
  23. You need 3 square bills. Chartreuse black back for muddy water Bluegill color (substitute perch if that is a big forage) for lakes where there are no shad. Shad color. As for what bait, bomber square A and H2O express.
