  1. I like mono for floating jerks like Rapalas, Long A's, Rogues, etc. and fluoro when I need to fish suspending jerks. It kinds depends on the season and where in the water column I want to fish
  2. You TOLD her?????
  3. On my computers I run Windows Millenium, Windows 7, and Windows 8 I am running Windows 8 with no problem now, but since I don't have a touch screen, I use a mouse much like (but not identically) in other Windows environments. I have now acclimated but it WASN'T easy. I'd rather be fishing
  4. I have a little 14 foot Jonboat with a 9.9 Johnson outboard and a 50 lb trolling motor. In Tidewater there are numerous lakes that require HP limitations. I usually fish them for that very reason. If I had a nicer boat, perhaps I would fish elsewhere. Since I don't.... There are other bodies of water without restrictions for those who want to use a larger motor.
  5. Both of them are lures that are old. The first is a Zam spoon. I don't recall the maker. I have one in my collection of vintage baits, but I don't have that particular box here. The second is a Pflueger tandem spinner, or a knockoff of that bait. Still available 50 years ago, but I don't think they are being made today.
  6. I use a soft side tackle system arrangement. I have a small insulated lunch bag that was given to me at a work-related event. I can fit several Plano 3450 boxes in it. In small jerkbaits I have the smallest Rebel, 4 Rapalas, and a dozen Yo-Zuris. One box. I have 10 Eppinger spoons, A dozen Super Dupers, 8 assorted spoons, a wee craw, crickhopper, and popper, 6 Yo-zuri tadpole looking cranks, and 2 SMALL squarebills in a second. I have another box devoted to inline spinners and yet another smaller box with numerous trout magnets. Along with spliy shot, leaders, snaps, and snap swivels they all sling over my shoulder and stay out of my way. Great streamside arrangement. If I am walking a bank for Bass in the summer, I can stick a 3450 box in the front pocket of a pair of shorts with Cargo pockets. I like to travel light when I can. I realize the original question was about a vest, but wanted to offer food for thought.
  7. It depends on the model of your reel(s). Call Oceans East on Northampton Boulevard in Virginia Beach. They have a guy that cleans/repairs reel. He did a fine job on a couple of Lew's reels that I left for him. Rates were reasonable, work competent, and the folks are really nice there. Good sized tackle shop, half fresh half salt and lots of knowledge. I have known the owner since he had a tiny shop 30 years ago. He is around for the long haul. Give them a call and see if they work on your models. If you live on the Peninsula I would think that BPS would be more convenient, but if you're South Side, I can recommend Oceans East.
  8. I used to drink I.W. Harper but can no longer find it. I have switched to Ancient Ancient Age (aged longer than Ancient Age) which is a fine flavored bourbon and does nicely. I can tell the difference between my usual bourbon and others, even the better ones like Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, etc. The AAA is a smooth bourbon that is not heavy. I recommend it
  9. Years ago I HAD to have 4 Power Pak shad after watching the Infomercial. Learned my lesson.
  10. They are native here and delicious. Remind me of flounder. I sometimes catch them on spinnerbaits or crankbaits.
  11. As far as durability goes, I have had one Lew's reel for 15 years now. It is the old classic with high speed retrieve. I recently came across another at a thrift store for 10.00 where the worm gear on the level wind needed to be replaced. They are my go-to reels. I have no plans to buy another reel, owning enough to fill up the walls in my office. They last.
  12. Cork by a WIDE margin. Feels lighter. Cooler in the summertime and the grip feels more secure.
  13. I have been given some of the more expensive baits, but when I buy for myself, it is hard to beat a Rapala or a Rogue. If I need casting distance I also like Long A's. They catch a LOT of fish for me. In the summer doldrums a jerkbait fished at dusk gets reaction strikes.
  14. I have found several important emails in spam folders. Good thought
  15. Most of us have been there. Nobody wins all of them. Fish enough and you'll catch some that you shouldn't have to balance things out. Chin up
  16. I have consistently had more success with a steady retrieve than stop and go or bumping into things. The secret, as stated above, is to use a slow retrieve. At least, that has worked for me day in and day out.
  17. A few years ago I lost a buzz bait that was the only one like it I had ever seen. It was an in-line bait shaped like a cross between a boomerang/sting ray in the body (front) with downward facing eyes. The "wings" were curved so that the lure always swam with the hook facing up. Following the body was the buzzbait blade and a large hook which when I got it had a large curly tailed grub on it. Does anyone here know what this bait is called? I am hoping it was not folk art, but can be replaced. If I know the name that will help me in my search. Thanks in advance for your help. Reply to this post for everyone, or PM me if you can help.
  18. ....And usually when the bait is the ONLY one you have like that and the fish like it. Makes you want to cry.
