  1. I was actually referencing Sleepy Creek! I actually catch most of my bass on the outside edge. Right now, on the inside edge, the milfoil is dead/dying and drops the oxygen levels in the water. I've coasted through the inside edge and there is very little life...a small bluegill darting through here and there. I've been really surprised by the explosion of vegetation in that lake the last few years. There have always been lillypads, but as far as I'm aware, watershield and milfoil never ringed the entire lake. I wouldn't complain if it didn't make fishing excellent lay downs and stump fields almost impossible.
  2. +1 towards Mark's post. Get two with different bottom colors. Bass can sit and inspect topwaters (see my avatar) but I doubt they are checking to make sure the color matches their local forage...they are more focused on the movement and outline. With that said, I'd still go with a natural color.
  3. swim jig will rip through weeds better (you bought all those pro model jigs though, better use em!) Just remember to quickly snap your wrists upwards (and your rod tip) when you feel grass. Don't pull the whole rod. If you do you'll just drag a ton of grass with you. The quick snap increases bait speed and allows you to get off grass (even with treble hooks)
  4. gotta fish timber with structure. there can be empty areas of timber if its not near structure or food or something attractive. I like using spinnerbaits or crankbaits and bouncing off the trees at various depths.
  5. swimsenkos Spinnerbaits
  6. Anyone have experience fishing these mini suction cups. I much prefer lilly pads as they offer some space. How do you all fish these? My best luck has been crawling lures on top (i can drag at 3/8 oz swimjig + trailer on them they are so thick). You can't pull anything through the stuff. Bass seem to be able to get through the stuff pretty well though.
  7. Montanaro replied to tabidon's topic in Bass Clubs
    I'd be interested as well
  8. Trout yes would like to try bluegill and crappie (especially deep fried whole bluegill)
  9. Well, I'm pretty set on picking one of these up this weekend from Dicks. For $450 it gives me room for a life vest and a good paddle and it gets me on the water. You can also stand relatively well in these. Can anyone talk me out of getting it? Closest BPS is 4+ hours and closest Cabelas is 1 1/2 hours. Max Budget of 600 for kayak. BPS has a good fishing model, but at 100+ bucks for shipping, it puts it at over $700. Thoughts?
  10. how much success is the boater having?
  11. what should they be called that would denote their ability to be fished in heavy cover?
  12. with Northstar flip and swim, is the jighead too wide to rip through heavy cover such as milfoil? Even with a streamlined head on my revenge jig, i will ocassionally snag milfoil (but can rip through it).
  13. I tried out swim jigging yesterday with a revenge bluegill colored jig with berkley twin tail grub. Lake I fish on gets a fair amount of pressure and is choked with milfoil and watershield. Spinnerbaits are okay but foul up easily and thats what most on the lake use. The jig allowed me to gcast quietly and put the lure anywhere. It was so versatile. I could even walk it on the watershield and even caught one that way and had one miss it. the watershield on edges allowed me to tick and rip jig through it that caused a couple reaction bites. I could also swim the jig up to fallen logs and let it drop like a normal jig...whi h also produced a fish. I was only one on lake catching bass to the point of having other people swoop in front of me to beat me to the fissh...but it didnt matter , i caught them when they left!
  14. Sleepy Creek lake here i come, wish me luck fellas...ill need it
  15. I'm trying out war eagles tomorrow. The way I see it, spinnerbaits don't get inspected by bass (maybe if trailing from the back)...they could never check out the detailing of the jighead. Skirt/blade performance is much more important.
  16. carp will give off a bronze/red color
  17. fish are capable of being conditioned.
  18. i dont know what an alien space ship is...but after being abducted once Id be much more hesitant about lights in the sky
  19. I try to be as close as possible. I bought some 20 pound the other day, when I probably should have went with 17, but I haven't had any problems.
  20. Im in a similar situation. What do yall know about 94 409 javelins? one near me for 10 grand and a lot of options.
  21. You can only take 3 rod/reel combos out on the water with you. What do you take or how are you using them? I ask this as I'm interested in upgrading my gear but not sure what to focus on. I have a couple of medium action spinning rods with 12# line on that do everything, but nothing well. Also, I have one 7' medium Abu Garcia Vendetta baitcaster that makes a very good spinnerbait/crankbait rod. In fact it's such an upgrade that my spinning gear feels obsolete. I'm thinking of picking up a heavy jigging/frogging rod, keeping the abu garcia, and keeping one of the spinning rods for soft plastics.
  22. Hobie... but the pro angler is 3,000+ If you can afford to buy a $3,000 kayak all up front (most stores won't do financing) you can probably afford to finance a cheap bass boat. From what I understand, getting an expensive kayak is best if you are taking it on lakes/rivers/ocean and saving tons of money by not hauling a big boat around.
  23. I won't lie, we weren't sure what we were getting into. Should be more experienced this year.
  24. Hey, I'm a new member from Morgantown WV. Been lurking this website for a couple months now trying to soak up any tips I could. I have been fishin' since I could hold a pole. I grew up in the EP (Eastern Panhandle) with the South Branch of the Potomac and Sleepy Creek Lake to fish. But since moving to Morgantown for school and beyond, my fishing has died down. Not having a fishing partner (my dad) around and not having any boat, it's difficult to fish the solid bass lakes in the area (Tygart, Stonewall Jackson) from the shore. Was hoping that joining this community would help light a fire under me to get back on the water. Looking forward to BS'ing with ya'll.
