  1. i like braid in cover and if im throwing a frog its a must for me 50 pound. i like 12 to 14 pound floruo for swimbaits and throwing t rigged worms and flipping senkos or brush hawgs, tubes. spinning reels i like 8 pound. if its a bigger spool spinning reel i go 10 but never throw anything over 10 for spinning unless i throw braid with a leader.im just learning also so i could have a wrong method.
  2. thanks for the advice i dont want skimp on this setup. im not rich by no means but i want something that will last cause like i said i fish 5 out of 7 days a week. i love the st, croix legend touny it was one of my fav rods i ever looked at when i got into bass fishing harder. grantman i will PM you. BTW would a cumura if i could get one on sale for mybe 200 be a good pair. i have never held one but i love the look. i know they have different ones with the symbols on the bottom grip.i think the jig and worm maroon color would look beautiful on the chronarch.
  3. i bought some in 10 pound and its pretty weak. i got it on my spinning reel so it might be ok but on my pro max i got a terrible backlash twice and had cut tons of line off. it may be good as a leader in heavier pd, but not as a main line. im switching too trilene big game 12pd. anyone know if its any good i got a big spool for free.
  4. i am about buy a chronarch 200E7 and this will be the first high dollar reel i have owned besides a cheaper pro max. im looking for a good split rod that i can throw texas rigged worms and senkos, sometimes wacky rigged. spinnerbaits. prefer cork if possible and like stay around 175 but could mybe budge 200 bucks. hows the Doybins savy would it pair up good you think. i fish pretty much 5 days out of 7 from the bank. theres a river close to my house and i been slaying bass down there this summer. looking at getting a john boat and trolling motor for next summer.
  5. i could but where i dont own a boat and always bank fish i just use 2 rods anyways, a frog rod which i love throwing frogs all year round pretty much, and a MH 7 foot for tex rigs and wacky. i also can throw some top water on the 7 foot rod. poppers and buzzbaits. i still want a good crankbait stick but too be honest i just havent caught enough bass on crankbaits or spinnerbaits too be comfortable with them. i love use them but dont have no confidence.
  6. i have actually been looking at all those reels you guys have mentioned on *** i just wasnt sure if i need one with a bigger spool cause of the braid or just a normal spool be ok. and yes i need tight drag thats how i lost a big one already this year in the grass i had my drag lose and it threw the frog. i figure theres no need spend 300 on a reel cause its not all year i throw frogs although i do almost 6 months of a year.
  7. I got a diawa 7.4 heavy frog rod i need a BC for. this will use 50 pd suffix y6 braid. looking spend about 150. what would you guys reccomend?
  8. i put 10pd vanish on my spinning reel i hooked one about 4 pounds and it held up good with a little drag pull, and make sure tie a good knot i use the pull tight knot cant remenber the name but im sure someone will chime in tell you a good one. i would like try braid soon just not sure what pound but i do no suffix is awesome in 50 pound for frogs.
  9. Really I could swore the trilene XL smooth cast was flouero. Is it mono then?
  10. berkley trilene XL the red box not the blue which im sure it work good too. i use 14 pd on my pro max and it cast nice and its tuff as hell.
  11. so not hijack your post but if i spooled up 40 yards of mono then connected it with braid for frog fishing was that a bad move? or should i just feel the whole spool up with braid only. BTW hooked a 4 pounder in last night and it was caught in between a 2x4 and if i wouldnt had braid i would of lost that fish i bet anything.
  12. i am very intersted in the doybins savy also. i read awesome things on it and for 150 bucks it looks like a 250 dollar G loomis. i think i may pull the trigger on one of the 6'6 med heavy ones. i have read alot great stuff about Doybins
  13. thanks im gonna pull the plug soon on a lews for the frog rod and then i want a nice 6'6 med heavy i can use for spinnerbaits and plastics like worms tubes and jigs. might pair it up with a chronarch or a zillion there super nice looking and i heard they are smooth as butter.
  14. i heard great things on the jhonny morris i almost bought the combo for 259 out of bass pro. i bet that would of been a great starter set then get a few other high end stuff later. thanks
  15. thank you guys this is what i wanted hear some good suggestions cause i have been looking a the pic thread of everyones setups and boy you all got some sweet rods and reels. i have really been enjoying using the baitcaster this summer and dont think i could ever go back too spinning reels unless i just use one for my shaky heads. if the new quantums are like my old pro exspress but now smaller thats a smooth baitcaster. i have been looking at some LEWS. theere is a small tackle shop about 30 min away that has alot of nice reels and rods i need go there and test some out. BTW is there a place on here where people sell fishing stuff like a classifieds section? sorry im new on here just joined.
  16. i use 8 pound stren and 50 pound suffix braid as the leader on my frog rod. cast pretty far and smooth. they say the 50 pound suffix braid is like 12 pound in mono.
  17. ok guys im not a newbie at bass fishing i have been fishing on and off since i was a kid, but i just this summer learned how use a baitcaster i always used zeybco 33's at first then went too spinning reels. my question is what is a good couple of rods and reels too get thats high quality good stuff in baitcasters. i have already bought a abu pro max and paired it with a vengence abu rod 6'6 its ok but the button and handle isnt very smooth you can tell its some of the low end abu garcia stuff. i was using a old quantuim the older style big reel and it is alot smoother then the pro max, i just hate how big it is now i got used too the pro max. i mostly bank fish everyday close too my apartment, what is a good setup i can get cause im gonna start selling some guns and stuff so i plan on spending around a grand or more on rods and reels. i love the shimano core and the revos in the reels and g loomis st croix looks like they really do it right, shimano and diawa i would accept also because i already have a diawa balistic 7'4 frog rod i need a reel for i plan on using 50 pound suffix braid. im ready start using good rods and reels. any help would be great thanks.
  18. we have caught alot of good bass this year 2 3 and 4 pounders even a few 5's on dingers wacky and sticked, my buddy likes smokey shad cause where we fish theres alot of big shad. i lke the red shad and the june bug dingers too. i have missed about 3 good bass on frogs this year, just last night i missed a monster on a spro bonzeye popper frog in killer gill color. had my drag set too lose and he came off under a patch of grass. i still love the frog but im getting tired of missing big fish with them. seems like you have wait a second then pull up very hard idk.
  19. its been rough here some too in ky and thats all i do is bank fish, i hooked a 4 pounder the other day in the river on a strike king smokey shad dinger. there not biting like they did 3 weeks ago but im starting too notice some are deep some are shallow. im not seeing as many shallow and i can see the bottom at most spots i fish its like 4 foot if that. i cant get them too touch a spinnerbait or crank its like they dont want chase down anything you have put it right on them and make them finally grab it. good luck stick with it.
  20. what a belly on that smallie. wonder what kind fight it gave him. and what he caught it on.
  21. i have found a few lures but not many i think people grab them fast anymore where everything is getting so exspensive, we have found pliers and a minnow trap this year so far. i would love find a quantum or abu reel with a st croix or g loomis rod.
  22. i missed a big one tonight on a spo killer gill color popper frog. using 50 pound suffix braid i had my drag way too lose and he was hooked under a big patch of grass beds and got off. i wouldnt use a spinning rod for frogs i would go 30 to 65 pound braid and baitcaster. i use a diawa 7.4 heavy frog rod. another thing is wait about a second and a half after the bass takes the frog then pull up hard, reason is it can be very tuff too get the hook set on bass with frogs cause the weedless hooks. i have missed about 4 big bass this year cause its the first year i have used frogs.
