  1. Thanks for all the input. I plan to start this project tomorrow and hopefully learn a lot along the way. How will I know if the bearing as good or bad? Any specific cleaner I should be using? I was planning on an all purpose cleaner I use for auto detailing and/or a degreaser. I also have a steam cleaner if need be.
  2. So, I was fishing and found a Gander Mtn. Tournament Spinning Reel GST30F. My guess is that it was in the water several months to over a year. It had all sort of stuff growing on it and the metal is discolored with some corrosion (I'm hoping a metal polish will do a lot of good). My goal is to make this a functioning reel and get how ever much life out of it I can. I started by washing it in a tub of water with dawn dish soap. I haven't taken anything apart yet. I've never taken a spinning reel apart before or done any type of maintenance before. I have Reel Oil and Reel Grease. The reel current works fine, the drag is good, the bail opens and closes well, it spins but I can hear some rubbing and resistance as I do so and it also will stick a little bit when I first start to crank the handle. What is the best way to clean and restore this thing? I don't want to remove every single part but I do want to be able to clean and oil/grease everything. My main concern is taking everything apart and not being able to get it back together or some small part breaking in the process. Thanks!
  3. Nice catches. I find this chart to be pretty accurate with length to weight. http://www.windycityfishing.com/bass_conversion_chart.htm
  4. Nice fish. Did you pull that out of Lake Linganore? I've never fished there before. Is to open to non-residence? Any place to put in a canoe or to fish from shore without being on someone's property?
  5. New PB this morning. 19 inches. 4 pounds. Second time out trying plastic worms wacky rigged. Caught 9 fish most between 9-14 inches between Dam 4 and Taylor's Landing. I can't believe how well they work and why I didn't try them sooner.
  6. Thanks for all the info. Ill have to check out those areas in the near future. Have you spent much time above dam 5? Is that better than dam 4 in terms of boat traffic?
  7. I've been looking to get a couple skirts to change out on my buzzbaits. What do you guys think about this type of skirt versus the traditional? http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-TERMINATOR-QUICK-CHANGE-REPLACEMENT-SPINNERBAIT-BUZZBAIT-SKIRTS-/151100171562?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item232e45a52a
  8. I picked up these a month ago. 30 bucks. Great quality for the price. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001VJU7D4/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. So far Taylor's Landing and Synder's Landing. Big slack on the weekday was great, very little boat traffic and we made it 8 miles up river just getting a feel for the area. Only caught 9 fish, several small mouth, a tiny large mouth and a couple sunnys. Their was a ~18 mph head wind pretty much the whole day which made fishing a little tough when it was too deep to anchor in a lot of spots. Caught 3 this size. Largest fish of the day. Caught it in the middle floating back with a chartreuse crank that dives 3-6 feet. I was really hoping to catch something a lot bigger with the deep water. Surprisingly everyone slowed down when passing by us and only saw 10-15 different boats all day.
  10. Hey, I'm new to the forums and only have been fishing a couple months. I'm going to be hitting up big slack above dam #4 on the Potomac in my canoe all day tomorrow starting at 6am. First time fishing this area...if anyone has any tips I'd love to hear them. I'm going to try to fish buzzbaits (both black and white), spinners and jigs. Hopefully, it will be a good day with the rain today and the high is in the low 70s for tomorrow.
  11. Thanks, will do.
  12. This has been an awesome resource for me since I've only been fishing a couple months. I hope to learn a lot and meet some other anglers from around my area. A couple of the best fish I've caught from the Potomac River this summer. The only largemouth I've ever caught.
