Good advice guys. I would add that you almost cannot fish a frog too slowly in heavy vegetation. Also, another really good pattern are banks that are in the shade in the middle of the day, ESPECIALLY underneath overhanging trees and even more so when there is some cover and vegetation. Bass often hit as soon as it hits the water or on the first couple twitches. When over the vegetation, bob the frog or walk it to make noise, and work it with pauses. On the edges of vegetation, pause the frog for 15 - 20 seconds or more. Then hop it off, pause it a couple seconds, then walk it away from the cover for 10 - 15 feet, then reel in and repeat.

Yeah you can, by just pulling them along but they do sink when you stop retrieving.

Generally a buzzbait early before sunrise. When the water is too cold for topwaters, generally my first lure is a spinnerbait.

I prefer mono for all topwater applications besides frogs.

I prefer something in the five range for all those techniques. With jerkbaits I like having a bit of slack in the line, so a slower reel helps with that.

I am new to drop shotting. Most of the lakes I fish, the deepest water is 17 - 18 feet. I have tried drop shotting briefly when conditions were really tough and have landed one small 11" bass. My question is, since I am mostly fishing flat bottoms in the deepest water during tough conditions, how far should I cast out from the boat? How should I retrieve the bait too?

I have never used anything but KVD, but it works so well I don't plan on using anything else at this time. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I don't like braid for spinnerbaits. Around cover I would use a minimum of 14 pound test mono or fluoro, better yet 17 - 20. Doubt you would need to go much over 20.

I use the 5/16 generally. The slower the fall the better unless you are fishing really deep water or windy conditions.

They call for spin gear if you ask me, except in the biggest sizes. A 7', medium glass or composite spinning rod with 6 - 10 pound test.

Big bass will nail them, my friend catches 4 - 6 pounders all the time on them. I am a big fan of the Baby Boo Jig. The best trailers for the bitsies are baby rage craws, zoom creepy crawlers, and tiny paca chunks.

Traditional jigs will never die, they just are too important a part in the arsenal of most serious bass anglers.

Lizards, finesse worms, and centipedes. Ring fry type baits are also awesome.

They still work with only one claw or one tail. Bass do like targeting injured crayfish more than healthy. I usually use mend it to repair my trailers and it works great.
