Those things are light! I mean I know there probably isn't a set up that's going to straight up launch these things, but one does not simply "find a heavier crankbait". What are you throwing them with? Thanks

The size 5 & 7 are 3/16 & 5/16 respectively and would be thrown on spinning gear if it were me. the 3/8 and 9/16 should be ok on a Med/mod rod that will load properly with them.

I use a Curado G5 with a Daiwa 6.5' medium rod and 10# mono for those baits.

I throw shad raps and flicker shads on a 6' ML BPS Crankin' Stick with a Curado 50E loaded with 20 pound Powerpro. Another setup I use is a Citica on a W&M 7' ML moderate with the same line. It's a rod I grabbed off a sale rack to troll with. Both setups do the job nicely. Removing extra grease from the reels and flushing the spool bearings helped too. Just about any medium spinning rod would do the trick.

I use a St Croix Premier 7' M with a Curado E5.

Though a spinning outfit would be ideal which I do use on occasion

They call for spin gear if you ask me, except in the biggest sizes. A 7', medium glass or composite spinning rod with 6 - 10 pound test.

I throw the SR5 on 6'8 m xf crucial spinning rod with a stradic 2500 6-8# flouro. SR7 I throw on a 6'6 mm crucial cranking rod chronarch 50mg and 10# flouro.

7'4 M action spinning rod and 8 lb test mono.

yeah i guess i should've mentioned i am throwing the 05. a couple of people have mentioned fast action rods. you dont find them a bit stiff for crankin'? thanks for all the replies.

I throw the #5 on a 6' 10" ML/F Rage spinning rod with a Pfluegar Supreme 25 and 8lb mono. That rod casts them really well and has a soft enough action to not pull the hooks out of the fish.

I've tried several different set ups to throw these baits - mixed results. Currently I'm using a medium light 6'6" All Star spinning rod (an older one - pre Shakespeare era) and an older Diawa Regal spinnning reel.

For line, I'm trying that Berkley nanofil in a 10 lb test. You get decent distance throwing with the wind, barely acceptable distance throwing cross wind (which is most of the time) and sub par distance throwing into the wind. The 5 and 7 sizes are just really light baits. I find myself leaving them home more often than not.

Maybe later in the fall or in the early spring I'll try them again.

Since it's purely a rhetorical question, that is if I were to ever throw shad raps, which I never do in early spring or, late fall, and I never weight them with suspendots. If I were to throw, say... a sr5 or sr7, I'd be throwing them on a 6-8" medium xfast Cumara spinning. Any Xfast spinning rod in Medium to med-lite would suffice- This is all in theory, mind you. Because these aren't baits that are still thrown, right. They're old, and outdated and don't work anymore.

Hmmm, never thought about putting a suspend dot on one, thanks for the tip. Those SR5's can be tough to toss, even on light spinning gear. I always change out the trebs to #6 Daiichi Death traps.
