No bad choices above. I had tremendous luck last year with Reins Swamp Mover. Got bit by big fish on days when nothing else was working. Bass Assassin Tapout is probably my second most used.

I can say, with a fair amount of certainty, that if you spend between $150 and $200 on a new low profile reel (from any of 10 or more top manufacturers), you will get a reel of very good quality.....and you will be able to cast more than far enough. That's a solid budget and the market is loaded at that price point. You should go to your local sporting goods store and put a few different ones on a rod and see how they feel to you.

So do cameras....I don't recall ever having a fish that didn't lose a pound or two once it was 'caught on film' ...or phone...they always get smaller

Sorry...you clearly know much more about the tournament than I do...I only applaud the OP for helping and trying to do as the vet requested.

Right about the same time that a fisherman realized that it sounded better, and some would think it smaller..... when he called his opponent's fish 4.8 pounds instead of 4 pounds, 13 ounces.

I've caught one, but totally by accident...on a spinnerbait, of all things. No desire to catch another. But, I saw a bunch recently, too. Got in with a school of bigguns breaking the surface a couple weeks ago....looks sorta graceful from a slight distance. Anyway, there's info on the interwebs about how to catch them with rope lures...cool, but I've not done it

I used to put the receipt in a small baggie and duct tape it to the battery. Only returned one for prorated refund and had no problem. I used Walmart batteries for many years with few problems. But, my last two a few years ago both only lasted little over a year. I since switched to Interstate. More expensive up front, but unbelievably better performance. Much longer lasting per charge (size 27 Interstate lasts far longer than previous size 29 Everstarts); and zero degradation after couple years.

I bought BPS hooks. Once. I'm much the same as @RoLo. But, with a slightly stronger urge to stick with Owner. I certainly have Gammy and others, but it is pretty rare that I don't find Owner to be the best choice for nearly any application. As to EWG v straight, it really depends. I prefer straight when I can get away with it, but many times I use EWG. Since 80% or more of the time, my plastic of choice is Rage Tail, I generally have EWG tied on, since RT (Cut-R's, craws, Bugs...) all work best with EWG.

I don't have much of a problem with state laws that dictate flotation be on board (certain) watercraft. Sorta like fire extinguisher requirements or other safety gear. But, I am all for relaxation of any laws requiring people to wear pfd's. Especially on SUP's. I have never been in my kayak without wearing my pfd, but I don't see any problem with folks that make a sober choice not to wear them in flat water situations without power traffic. I spend too much time in rushing or rough water or around jet skis and big boats. I think it's entirely possible that if and when I end up in the water it could be accompanied by head trauma that might knock me out. But I fish on plenty of non-gas-powered motor lakes that I'd like to think I could make a reasonable choice to not wear it. In WI, you don't have to wear a motorcycle helmet; why on earth would the same legislative body require a SUP'er to wear a pfd?

Visible bass is where I get hung up on local ledges....As a rookie sonar operator, I tend to think that EVERY arch is a bass....until a couple hours into a skunk, at which time I usually decide that NONE of the arches are bass

It'll cast a mile and handle beautifully. Most of the time. Two things to watch, other than drag/breakage; three, if you got mossy, dark green; 1 - Be especially careful with your leader knot; small and tight; trim those tags as close as possible. It doesn't take much wind for that wispy thread to catch on itself at the knot/tags. If it does, you're in for some of the craziest knots you've ever seen. 2 - That same breeze can wreak some havoc when you get any slack around your rod tip; say, when setting the hook on nothing; that thread will come back at you and start knotting itself around your guides so fast, it'll make your head spin. 3 - Dark colored 10# braid is the closest thing to invisible in most conditions...I can't even find my line some days, much less actually watch it

I don't fish for panfish, but I catch 'em on the Occoquan with regularity. I'd rent a boat from either Fountainhead or Lake Ridge; pretty similar - mostly would depend on whether you live in Fairfax or PW county. If you're out more towards Loudon, you can try Brittle - but, IIRC, the boat rentals there were kinda expensive for my tastes.

I actually dropped my '76 6HP tiller in the lake not too long ago....'how' is a long story. Anyway, it was only a couple feet of water, but it was completely submerged for about a minute. It was a hot, sunny day...I took the cover off and let it dry out in the sun for about an hour. It started on the second pull and has run better since.

Twice the width will get you to a good place most of the time. You will find certain plastics will work better with certain hooks....so, don't hesitate to fine tune to what works for you. For example, for me, Rage Tail Cut R's are pretty close to most stickworm thickness; but I find I get much better hook up ratio using a wider gap than I would with a senko....not sure why....flukes are another bait that people will develop different preferences. But, my only real advice is two things: 1- consider Owner for every application. They don't make the perfect hook for every presentation....BUT, for me, they make the better hook for most 2- don't underestimate the differences in the gauge, or thickness of the hooks...it took me a long time to really get it, but thicker hooks generally DO need firmer hooksets

um....you're talking about three rocket surgeons that just pumped gas into a rod holder....don't suggest the battery cable order as if it's something they should have known...lol
