Just passing on what a highland reservoir guide shared with me yesterday : If you fish for Smallmouth and Spotted bass do yourself a favor and get the : "I Know It" sexy shad color and the "Loon" colors to start - this will cover majority of conditions and later you can add a translucent color such as "Monkey Butt" or "Ghost Shad" . The subtle chartreuse coloring over pearl white in the "I Know It" color is like a magnet for smallmouth and spots !

While on the WP color topic :Give me your top three colors as I believe a dark , a white / silver and a translucent would cover all water and sky conditions . Currently I have a WP90 in : Loon , I Know It and for translucent - my next WP90 will probably be Monkey Butt . How about your top 3 WP colors ?

Any trouble with the MH / H frog rod types and braid with the WP 130's treble hooks pulling out easily ? This is where more of a parabolic swim bait / crank bait rod may have an advantage or perhaps it's not that big a deal if the MH / H frog rod types are working

I want to give the Whopper Plopper 90 a good chance before throwing in the towel and moving up to the 130 size . Like others have said - a Whopper Plopper 110 offering would be great !

Good suggestions - due to the lure weight , treble hooks and the fact I use #40 lb. braid - I am inclined to look for a heavy crank bait or light swim bait rod to throw the Wopper Plopper 130 on .

I don't own any rods suitable for the Whopper Plopper 130 so instead dropping back to the Whopper Plopper 90 size on a 7' MH spinning rod with 3000 size reel and straight #20 lb. braid using a palomar knot . While this is a good staring point for the Whopper Plopper 90 - I now want to consolidate ALL the so called issues I have heard or read with the 90 size as well as corrective action / best practices as follows : Concerns: 1. Excessive spinning with the 90 size causing line twist 2. Front half of 90 size dives under water on retrieve 3. Tail doesn't spin on the first 4' to 5' of the retrieve - then engages OK , with above issues for the 90 size stated , what are best practices to correct the above issues ? Corrective Action : 1 . High rod position for the retrieve keeping line in front of the bait out of the water 2. Allow a couple of seconds after the bait hits the water to re-surface - then begin your retrieve 3. Use a split ring (don't understand that one) or a snap swivel to prevent line twist 4. Be sure no debris is caught up in the space between front half and tail of the bait 5. Be sure the tail is straight and not bent (adjust by bending tail wire as required) 6. Whopper Plopper 90 best for calm water - choppy water can impact the smaller 90 size action (nature of the beast - no cure) *OK , with the above laid out - have I failed to mention any Whopper Plopper 90 concerns , issues as well as how to correct using best practices ? ... Let's hear from all the Whopper Plopper 90 users experiences including those who never have an issue ? Thanks in advance !

At 1 and 3/8th oz. the Whopper Plopper is too hefty for me to throw on any MH bait cast rods I own (MH rods rated up to 3/4th to 1 oz.) ... Since rod sensitivity isn't a requirement for this bait - what are good inexpensive / best value rod choices for throwing the big 130 size ?

Here in the South East we will see our first cold front of the Fall tonight which means the beginning of cooler water temps for inland reservoirs and for shad to at least think about moving shallow ! ... * What are your favorite baits and colors for catching bass in clear water , inland reservoirs in the Fall when the shad move shallow and bass put the feed bag on ? For me , it would begin early or late with a bone color Spook for top water followed by a Booyah shad pattern 3/8th oz. willow blade spinner as a search bait, then followed by a shad color Strike King 1/8th oz. swim jig with a 4" Kietech Swing Impact in Sight Flash color as a trailer . If still no takers - I break out the pearl color 3" grub on a 1/8th oz. ball head jig . That about exhausts my bag of tricks for the Fall shad migration to shallow water . Let's hear from you - what baits and colors do you count on for bass during the Fall shad migration shallow ?

Never seen a black large Colorado blade on one - the WM's near me sell some pretty funky color combos - even if I try to imagine them in shades of grey they still look pretty funky with yellow & green skirts , etc.

Kalin was supposed to have made a round jig head for their grubs but I can't seem to find it ( i.e. 18th oz. 1/0 hook).

Thanks for the Gama , Owner , etc. suggestions (I don't go through enough to pour my own) ... I use Gopher for my Ned Jigs and forgot they have other sizes which I can select - I simply forgot about Gopher being an option - thanks !

I happened to be at a Cabela's yesterday and held one of their ZX Frog rods (7'3" H /F) which seemed to be well made , balanced and light - not bad for $99 .

What is your favorite 1/8th ~ 3/16th oz. lead jig head for fishing Kalin's , Zoom Fat Albert or other 3.5" ~ 4" grubs for bass ? While it's easy to find round or darter style jig heads - finding the right hook size and length can be a problem for grubs . Thanks in advance ...

For more sparse vegetation - would a 7'3" MH work instead of a H ? ...Say a Dobyns 734 instead of a 735 ?

Besides an increased heart rate - when Pros who have caught hundreds of bass have their hands shaking after a thrilling contest with a bass , well - that's why we do it !

The Fury 735 would be on my short list - would it be a better value than a Duckett Ghost series 7'3" ?

I believe my firend's cardiologist was more concerned with : "What was going on during this period of erratic heart activity " ? then he was about operating ! Also he cardiologist was not a fisherman so he was not too amused ... To borrow from the new Ice Tea commercial (i.e. "It's lemon aid man" !) : "It's frog fishing man - read the sign ... FROG FISHING " !!

Looking for a 7'3 MH casting rod for all - around work out of : Frogs , Jigs , Chatterbaits , Top Water , Flipping , and Pitching Soft Plastics ... All the above series are in the same price range . For those with experience of the brand and models I listed what are your thoughts ? My criteria is a soft enough tip to cast above lures well but with a nice MH butt section to move fish with . Quality , reliability and best bang for the buck value round out requriements ...Thanks in advance ! I would like to consider *** *** *** as well ... Sorry - forget the *** brand and model as there appears to be a problem with the company and or model I wanted compred . The Dobyns Fury vs. the Duckett Ghost series wll do nicely .

A friend of mine was thought to be having heart issues so his cardiologist made him wear an event (heart) monitor for a month . At the end of the month he sees the Doctor and he says : " Things appeared normal - until two weekends ago where by we tabulated some very erratic heart rhythms which has me quit concerned - we may need to operate " ! ... My friend then inquired : "What time specifically two week ends ago do the events occur on the monitor I was wearing " ? Long story short , the times coincided exactly when he had been out hollow body frog fishing and had caught two #4 lb. and one #6 lb. bass - all on a hollow body frog !! ... I about fell over laughing - the event (heart) monitor had captured all of the excitement of my friend's frog fishing trip - I guess what they say about frog fishing is true - It will darn near give you a heart attack when you get bit !!

I have settled on the Sexy Dog Jr. - easy to walk , great action , good colors , good build quality and great overall value .
