What and why is your favorite pencil popper for largemouth , small mouth and spotted bass ? The Ima Little Stick 135 , Lucky Craft Gunfish 117 and the Evergreen Shower Blows would be on my short list . I am curious about the new Berkley Cane Walker but have not seen it yet - your thoughts ?

I'm with you - I have been on the fence about this since the reply and now a 4/0 seems a little big for a Biffle Bug Jr. ... Tommy himself uses the Jr. on a drop shot (go figure) but never see him slinging the Jr. on a Hard Head swing jig. I believe Gary Klein uses a Havoc Pit Boss Jr. (3") with a Hard Head which might be over sized as all the swing jigs have 4/0 EWG or 5/0 EWG hooks ... I don't believe I've seen any 3/0 EWG hooks offered on OEM swing jigs ? ... In the end the normal size Rage Menage , Rage Bug , Pit Boss and Biffle Bug in that 4 inch range are probably best .

Strike King prides itself on the realistic "dying flutter" found with the design of the Red Eye Shad Lipless Crankbaits while either yo-yoing on the retrieve or just letting the lipless crank fall on a slack line to imitate a dying shad . With this said , a number of lipless cranks are ok on a steady retrieve - but few are designed to have that "dying flutter" on the fall which bass find so irresistible ! ... *Besides the Red Eye Shad - what other lipless cranks do you find to have that outstanding "dying flutter" on slack line ? Thanks in advance ...

*According to the Gene Larew folks - the same 4/0 Biffle Hard Head will fit with the hook point coming out at the body / tail junction ... On the normal size Biffle Bug the hook point comes out about 1/2" further up in the body .

Can the Biffle Bug Jr. (3.5") be used on the Biffle Hard Head 5/16th and 7/16th oz. versions which use a 4/0 EWG hook ? While the normal Biffle Bug will surely work on the 4/0 EWG Hard Head - I wasn't sure in the Biffle Jr. could be used with the 4/0 EWG hook as well ? I fish for spotted bass (which are on the small side) and while I like the action of the normal size Biffle Bug - I thought the size may be a turn off to smaller spotted bass hence why I ask about the Biffle Bug Jr. size ... I only see the Baby -Minus One , not the larger -Minus One ... A good bait back in the day when they were smooth sided as previous poster stated - perhaps today there are better wake / shallow cranks like the Bandit Footloose or the KVD HC 1.5 Shallow Square Bill .

Academy H2O Express Mettle MT2 : 6:3:1 , 1 piece aluminum frame , brass gears and 10 ball bearings for $60 but can be had for less on sale or year end clearance .

The Netbait Paca Chunk craw in regular size is had to beat due to multiple colors to allow mix & match , great scent and cost effective ... Only negative (at times) is pesky Bluegill can tear off a claw fairly easily . Another good low cost option is the Berkley Havoc Scott Suggs 4" Rocket Craw as a jig trailer (dip the two antenna in JJ's chartreuse for added attraction) .

Except for top water , I'm trying to use braid + leader option more - so the BooCoo SR could still be a good option for my needs .

All of the above shaky heads are good options - if you are into stand up options then finish the deal with Zman 7" Finesse Worms (Dirt or Green Pumpkin) sprayed with a little BANG garlic scent and you would be good to go any where !

I hear good things about the Falcon BooCoo SR casting / spinning rods and finally was able to view them in person : Nice rods but most appeared light for their action rating and all appeared to have a moderate fast action which leads me to ask : Are Falcon BooCoo SR rods mainly to be used with braided lines OR treble hook lures ? Thanks in advance for replies from your experience !

Any time you need to reel a lure fast , use your rod to move line (football jigs) , need to pick up line fast such as when a bass is swimming towards you after setting the hook and you need to catch up to the bass fish to keep it pinned . Pro's have things down to a science by calculating how much time they can save reeling line & lure back in after it gets out of the strike zone so they can make the next cast quicker by using a 7:3:1 or 8:1:1reel ratio reels. Medium and big deep diving crankbaits still get the lower / slower 5:3:1 or 6:3:1 ratio reels .

In clear water reservoirs - a pearl color can be a little better producer than white (more subdued & natural) . In lightly stained to stained water , a brighter white is perhaps the better choice .

*The Lucky Craft RC 1.5 appears to be popular - do you select colors based on early Fall and late Fall , or does it matter ? Some suggest shad colors in early Fall and move to the darker green / brown craw colors in late Fall .

You may be able to get by with the moderate fast - if you go braid + leader rout OR straight braid rout .

*I looked at an 80X (in my hand) but put it back for now ... It's a little larger than the 1.5 size and has #2 size treble hooks which may be slightly big for what I am looking for at present - still the 80X has great action and will remain on my short list for the future .

*Bomber Square A's appear to be a great shallow crank bait - yet difficult to find ... What's up with this ? I picked up a few silent and rattle versions of crankbaits : H2O , Strike King KVD , 6th Sense 50X -all in shad colors from light to bright . At some point later in Fall I'll possibly pick up a couple dark brown / orange craw as I understand at some point later in the Fall the shad bite can give way to a craw bite ?

*Sound Fx4 : A welcome hijack and a valid question : Shallow crankbaits with OR without rattles ? ... I'll start by saying for clear water and natural colors I prefer no rattles - for stained water and brighter colors I prefer rattles . KVD has both in the same colors - first starting a crankbait pass with rattles then as the action dies down he follows up with silent shallow cranks ... *If I were to error I'd say for shallow crank baits the no rattles / silent crankbaits would be best .
