  1. Black Buzz Bait 100-200 Series Bandit Crankbaits (baby bass) Horny Toad (watermelon seed) Zoom Ol Monster (Tequila Sunrise)
  2. My two pennies worth: I'm two hours away from the nearest BPS and I'm not sure where the nearest Cabela's would be. I have been to the BPS in Nashville and Savannah. Both are great stores. I have ordered online from both BPS and Cabela's. I've had excellent customer service from both. Shipping is very timely. As others have said I consider them both to be about equal, so I generall go with whoever has the lowest price. The Bargan Cave at Cabela's is awesome, and I've found some good deals on closeouts at BPS too, but again, I like the Bargan Cave at Cabela's the best. The one difference is that I have a lot more confidence in the BPS brand items than the Cabela's. I've got three BPS rods which I really like and I've heard good things about their reels as well. I haven't really seen much or heard much about Cabela's brand of fishing gear. Hard to beat those sales on the BPS brand items. Great bang for the buck imho.
  3. This is by far the best fishing site on the web. It's the most informative as well. I've learned so much here, my only hope is that I'm able to take some of this knowledge and pass it along to others. Many thanks to Glenn, the mods and all of the thousands of BassResource.com members who pass along so much knowledge is every thread.
  4. Big bait = Big fish Try fishing some of the larger senko's or maybe try some 7-11" worms. Zoom Ol Monster and Mag II worms have worked for me of late.
  5. I enjoyed BassCenter myself. I found it pretty informative. I don't really care much for that Rods and Wheels or Reels and Wheels or whatever that show is called that they've put on now. I've watched it a few times and just can't get into it. Too much like some lame reality show and not enough fishing information. Hopefully they'll keep the BASS related programing so that I can at least keep up with what's going on with the tour. OLN is changing their name in the fall, it's going to be called Verses. Anybody know what's going to happen with the fishing shows at that point?? Heck it's not like they ever show any anyway. There for a while it was wall to wall Tour De' France coverage. I'm sorry but there can't be that much interest in this country over a bike race. Between that and the reruns of Survivor(is that really necessary?) they devote little time to the actual outdoors. They carry NHL and Arena Football, which I find some humor that a network called Outdoor Life Network would air sporting events which are played indoors. LOL What's next? Professional Indoor Soccer? In OLN's defense they do carry Bill Dance outdoors on Tuesday's during my lunch time so I have something to watch while I eat. Turner South is soon changing it's name since being bought by Fox, they are going to turn it into another sports channel, hopefully they'll be some more fishing on there. I'd like to see Fox step up to the plate with a good selection of fishing shows at hours that many of us can enjoy. While I'd rather be fishing on Saturday morning, on the days when I can't go, I like to get up and watch the ESPN2 programming. It won't matter for too many more weeks, once College football begins on Saturday, I'll be glued to Gameday on ESPN on Saturday mornings. They can air whatever they want on ESPN at that point.
  6. Fat Boy- That baby Bass patterned Rapala should serve you well for bass fishing. The baby bass colored bandits have been my most successful crankbaits this year. Good luck!!
  7. Dink- You da man. That was exactly what I was looking for. I think it's time for me and bait monkey to surf over to jann's and pick up a few things. Many thanks!!
  8. My days of getting skunked are getting farther and farther apart. I hit a dry spell the other week where I went two straight fishing trips without getting a fish. The guy that I was with only caught one fish in two outings so I didn't feel too bad. I'm back on track after catching a nice crappie on Saturday. My current goal is to be able to weigh a fish in a tournament. i've only fished three this year and I've caught fish, just no keepers. Hopefully this saturday will be the day!!
  9. I've been thinking about starting to fish on my lunch hour. I'm about five, maybe 10 minutes tops from a pretty good fishing spot. No bass but I've caught a ton of panfish there in the past so, I'm thinking about heading over there a few days a week. Give me a chance to try out the ultra-light Quantum spinning reel that I bought a few weeks ago.
  10. Dink, Thanks for the tips. Can I get those pliers that you are talking about from Jann's or Stamina? That was really my question because I could not understand how you attached the blades to the wire arm. So I just attache a blade and then loop the wire around to hold it in place??
  11. Question: I've been painting my own jigs for a couple of weeks now and I've got the hang of everything. So now I'm ready to move into the world of spinnerbait making. I'm not interested in pouring them, too much mess so I'm planning to order some unpainted from Jann's or Stamina. I know how to paint them but my question concerns putting them together once they are painted. The skirt I can handle, but how do you attache the blades? What are do I need to be able to do this? Can any one here give me a little step by step on spinnerbait assembly? Many Thanks!!
  12. Once or twice a week usually. Sometimes more, sometimes less. When fall gets here that number will probably drop down to two or three times a month. I'm a football addict and have a hard time leaving the couch on Saturday and Sunday. If I go I like to stay for awhile, 5-6 hours at least.
  13. I have fished a lot at night this year and I'm still trying to figure out what time is best. I have caught fish early, right at dusk and then not caught anything else until 10 or 11. I have notiched that the activity of the fish seems to increase around 3am or so. Rather than "night fish", I'm thinking about trying to get out on the water maybe around 3am or so and fish until noon.
  14. SFC_AL- man if you suck, then I blow! LOL My average is usually around 1-2 fish per outing. If I catch 5+ I've had a heck of day. If I catch five "Keepers" I might not ever leave. Fish or no fish, I love being on the water.
  15. This has been a great thread and is a wonderful read. I've enjoyed hearing everyone's stories. I'm only 33, but I think it's great to see all the teens on this site that are into fishing. Plenty of worse thigns that they could be doing. My dad didn't fish, so I don't have any of those memories. I was a late in life baby (mom was 39, dad was 43) yeah, I was an oops! I have a sister whose 14 years older than me. When I was around 7 or 8 she had a boy friend who was a big into fishing. So he bought me a Shakesphere rod and reel and took me fishing. I remember fishing for brim. I think my sister dumped him shortly thereafter. I didn't fish again until I was about 13. Our Church would always take the teens on a camping trip right after school was out each year. Me and a few of my friend would take along our rods and reels and we would stay up all night fishing and talking about girls. By the time I was 16-17-18 years old, my buddies and I would go fishing together nearly every day after school. We hardly ever caught anything but it was fun, hanging out and talking about girls, cars etc... I started college in the fall of '91 and I probably didn't touch a rod or reel more than once or twice over a 15 year period. I just got back into fishing again this spring.
  16. This is why I love this site. LBH- You da' man!!! When you see the generocity of guys like LBH, BassChaser57 and Alpster (in another thread) you realize what a great group of people that we have here. I hope you guys that won, catch a record breaker on your new plastics. Congrats!
  17. Brush Hogs are made my Zoom and can usually be found in most any tackle shop or even Wal-Mart. Finesse Worms are made by several companies, including Zoom. You can also try the Renegade Finesse Worms (4") at Wal-Mart. Your best bet is going to be visting your local tackle shop and spend some time with the soft plastic display. Best of luck!
  18. Orlando is in commercial Real Estate in Adairsville, GA just about 45 or so north of Atlanta. He just helped Cabela's secure land for a new location in Adairsville. Supposed to be a real nice guy. Never met him myself. I grew up on Bill Dance, Roland Martin and Orlando Wilson. My current favs: KVD IKE Gerald Swindle Peter T and Preston Clark
  19. I fish out of the back of the boat at least 1-3 times each week. Either for pleasure or in a tournament. As others have mentioned you have to cater your style to whatever the guy in the front of the boat is doing. I spent many a day getting skunked because the guy up front was trolling too fast for my plastic worm. I've since learned to switch to different lures, which have increased my fish catching lures ten fold. If it's a team tournament, I let the guy up front worrying about catching numbers and I tie on a big bait and I try to catch big fish.
  20. I just started keeping mine last week. I've only made three entries so far. I could see where this would help and it's already help me make better decisions as far as lure selection goes.
  21. Yeah, this is pretty much the video that I learned it from. I'm still not great at it. BPS has three KVD videos for $9.95, pretty good deal that I picked up. Three fishing video for less than $10, gives me something to watch when there is nothing else on TV (which is often it seems like).
  22. What he said. Although I prefer a 4/0 hook. I've found this to work in 10feet or less of water. If it's deeper than 10 I'll use a tube with a 1/2 to 3/4 oz jig head. If neither of these work, I'll try to pitch/flip a jig around the edges of the dock.
  23. I have never tried a "Drop Shot" rig. I don't own any swimbaits so I've never tried those. I fish a jig just about everytime I go out, yet I rarely ever catch anything on them. Just now really getting into trying to fish jerkbaits. My favorites: Plastics (Worms, flukes & Senko's mostly) Crankbaits Any top water baits.
  24. Yes, they do take a lot of practice to master. I just bought my first BC back in the spring and I practiced with it every night for the first month that I had it. After that I kind of got the hang of it. I still get a backlash every now and then, I still get a "professional overrun" sometimes but not very often any more.
  25. Perfer a bass boat. I don't own one but I do have a few buddies who do. I'll fish from the shore if I have to and in the spring I don't mind it, but come summer when the fish are deeper I'd rather be in a boat.
