start with the basics. 7ft MH F action rod with a 2500 reel of your favorite brand. and then 20 pound braid. that should be a very versatile set-up

G Loomis Rod Users
i have the IMX. it is a very light rod and top notch. i only use g loomis rods. as i have other brands as well but nothing tops g loomis. any g loomis rod would be good quality, my rod never failed me. i also have the GL2 and love it as well. warranty is lifetime, they are kinda pricey but worth every penny. this is coming from a guy whose owned dobyns and st croix rods. g loomis blows them away by a mile. some people might disagree. just go try one and you'll see

Spinning Reel Sizes
yep. i have a cabo 40, with 30 pound braid of 300 yards, the reels also has 30 pounds of drag. I use this reel for big LMB, snook, tarpon and reds. the crazy part or it all is that the combo is extremely light, i have it with a g loomis rod. people might say this is over kill but in fact its actually perfect. im confident getting a 10+ bass out of heavy cover as well as a 50+ tarpon with the 30 pounds of drag. IMO its versatile for everything i fish for in my location.

New Rod Advice
im guessing you took a trip down here because your tag says you live in PA. what alot of people dont understand is that a heavy rod is not overkill. i notice that people upnorth that catches 8 or maybe 10 pound or not even, think that a heavy rod is over kill and i understand why. its all about location. people in california, texas and florida fish with heavy rods because it just wont happened catching a bass that is over 10 to 15 pounds. bass fishermen in california where 20 pounders are common, use heavy rods and alot of swimbait rods witch are heavy as well, but for northern fishermen it might be overkill. location is the confusion here.

Spinning Reel Sizes
the thread is about the difference on sizes, 1000- 2500 is good for bass, but iv seen people use a 2500 for snook and got completely spooled lol.

Spinning Reel Sizes
a smaller reel like a 2000 to 3000 will not have enough drag as a 4000 to 5000 reel. the drag is also important. if you fish with a 2500 size reel and you have alot of line but no drag then you will get spooled.

New Rod Advice
not really, it would be very good for flip & pitch punch. if not then good luck getting a 10+ bass out of heavy cover with a mh rod

my advise is, being that you live in Miami, get the heaviest, extra fast and longest broomstick you can find on the market.
