  1. My leader is about 5-6 foot long but gets shorter as I change lures. Try not to get it less then 2-3 feet if I can help it
  2. All season I have been trying to learn to fish senkos due to their versatility. I use braided line with a p line flourocleae leader. I tried fishing with a slack line but there is no sensitivity and any jump in the line I set the hook and 99.99% of the time its just the current moving it or I set the hook on a nice log/stick. So now I cast out wait for it to sink then reel in til I can feel the worm on a taut line holding the rod tip as low as I can. This has worked for me but I wanted to know am I doing it wrong and possibly missing out on other bites? Ive read most articles and forum posts on senkos but little on fishing it with a taut line. I am looking for any advice i do not want to use flourocarbon seems too picky and that just adds another issue Thanks in advance
  3. By noise did you mean it sounding like the braid is digging into the guides? I just set braid up for the first time on my *** black n had this concern. I'm hoping this is what u guys are talking about n my guides are okay.
  4. Feel free moken. Several inches wider then ur standard n holds 400 lbs I believe. You'd have to try to flip that thing
  5. Thanks everyone! Very helpful info. Now its time to buy some line and see if it works for me
  6. Hey I decided I am going to try braid out on my casting reels. I want to use a leader just in case I snag so I can snap the leader n not cut expensive braid. So my question is when choosing a leader do u take line diameter into account? Should a leader be bigger, smaller or of similar diameter? Does knot choice make a difference? Idk if I'm over thinking this but I don't wanna be turned off braid because I didn't do proper research. Thanks for any advice
  7. I have a silver max as well and just bought a 71 med *** black as my everything rod. Unfortunately I have not gotten to fish it yet. Still on back order. Just letting you know what someone in the same situation decided on. And if u wait there's gonna be memorial day sales so u could get the *** black for $85
  8. Nice set up. I just bought a kayak a little bit ago n was looking into anchors or a stake out pole. But everything was expensive. What I decided on doing is getting a garden stake from home depot for like 5 bucks read that on another forum for a stake out for six foot of water. And for deeper water I was gonna get a retractable dog leash n tie a dumbbell on the end. I don't like the idea of line or chain everywhere for an anchor so thought this might work. And I'd mark how deep the water is on the leash so I have an understanding of what to use. Im gonna get all this this weekend n hopefully give it a go. Stake out poles I also read that paint rollers and golf ball retrieve poles work well with some modifications
  9. So excited!!!! I have never been to a bps or cabelas before they are all too far. And this thursday may 1 cabelas is opening n its only like an hour away!!!!!! Don't really need new stuff but I'm sure it won't stay that way. Is any one planning on going this weekend?? Apperently therr is an aquarium n archery range n other stuff to do. I feel like a kid before his first Disney land trip Also does any one know if they have any special sales or deals for grand openings either by cabelas or vendor reps??
  10. I have yet to try them. And the reviews aren't the best but I bought some yum money hounds just in case I run into a situation like that. They look like a pickle and are supposed to be weedless spooks. If u search them on here you can read more about them
  11. A smoke was my first hi end reel and love it. And for 89 bucks you cant go wrong. The one heads up I'd give to u if u want it for finesse fishing. Casting anything under 3/8 oz total can be tricky. At least it is on my 150 size
  12. I have taken my younger brother fishing n its the same story after thirty minutes of nothing his mind wanders n he'll wanna leave. Live bait works but what I found to be good is the little rebel grasshopper lure. Worm under a bobble can get boring so a lure there is constant activity. It catches fish and will keep them entertained for longer from my experience just make sure they can cast well a birdsnest can ruin a day for a little guy. You can pick one up at Wal-Mart for like five bucks or a local tackle shop. Just thought I'd suggest an alternative.
  13. I bank fish most of the time I fish. I read the split shot was a great shore fishing presentation so I tried it. I tried it with a small fish belly hawg shad that floats. I nose hooked it on a size 1 hook. I threw it in and realized it sank so tried worms n same result. Has anybody else had this issue? Should I use a smaller hook or what. The hawg shad does float alone but with the hook everything I use they sank too quickly.
  14. X2 on the Powell 714!!! I believe fish ranger is where people are getting them for $160
  15. O yea just for reference I live in nj and will be fishing at a bay outside of seaside I forget the exact name. There are blow fish, bass n American eel, nothing too big n that's all I really know are there, only fished it like three times
  16. Hello don't do much saltwater fishing but have a casting reel coming which is saltwater approved with mono capacity of 12/100 if I were to spool this up with 30 lbs braid would that be efficient for light saltwater applications? And do saltwater anglers use leaders like bass fishing? Any advice would help greatly. Thanks!
  17. Thanks for all the replies!! I am buying a scale tonite n hopefully next pic I get is a true 5 pounder. Not a rookie guessed one
  18. Will that help me catch bigger fish?!?!?!?!
  19. Thanks and I'm actually pickin up a scale after work today for that exact reason
  20. Hey i just got into bass fishing about a year ago n only really catch what u guys would call dinks. to me any fish is a good fish. This weekend some how this guy ended up eating my spinnerbait. definitely the biggest I have ever caught. Does anyone have a rough guess of weight. I guessed 3lbs but my friend who is also new to bass said five. Since this is my pb so far I'd like to have an idea of weight. Thanks for ur help!!
  21. Hey, fishing is finally possible on a daily basis around me!!!!! So, you know what this means........ I NEED MORE JIGS FOR THE SEASON!!!! Ive always purchased jigs and lures from the sales bin, i lose alot of lures where i fish so never found the pricey stuff worth it. Went searching around for some new jigs and know alot of you guys talk about Siebert Outdoors Jigs. I never looked at them before but decided to see what all the hype was about and all i can say is WOW!!! These jigs are extremely affordable with quality hooks and they offer every color under the sun and fully customizable! All the choices are a little overwhelming, so i just wanted some of your suggestions on which jigs and colors you liked most. Thanks for the help!!!!
  22. A little ole jitterbug in black at night!!
  23. I know the topic of sunglasses has been brought up before, I used the search bar!! The reason I am starting a new topic is because it seems like everyone just suggests costas. Which by my research they seem amazing. The issue is I don't have that kind of money to drop on sunglasses, all my money went into new set ups and a kayak. So, my question is what are some good mid range polarized glasses. I'm looking at something better then a $20 pair but not as expensive as $150+ pair. Mid range but reliable for a period of time, until I can upgrade to costas. Any suggestions are useful. It would help if you could state the brand, model n lens color too. I went to dicks to try some but being indoors not on the water I feel that test wasn't very true. Thanks!!
  24. One morning I was fishing at my local dam with a spook. Was admiring my surroundings when I saw something splash near my lure thought it was a bass that just missed than a bird comes flying out of the water. I quickly realized it was a king fisher trying to eat my spook so i quickly started reeling in as he hovered about 10 feet up eyeing my spook then Dove back at the spook. Luckily it missed n I got the lure back on shore n watched the bird fly away. Every morning I go I see the same king fisher flying around. Not sure how rare they are but what a Graceful bird to watch when the bite is slow. Hoping to one day see him actually catch a meal.
