  1. I've only been kicked out once. It was up in Boca and this pond is in front of the community. My friend and I were catching a bass on almost every cast, we only lasted 10 minutes there. An old fart (I call him that cause he doesn't deserve being called an elderly gentlemen) drove by and saw us, came out of his car and started yelling at us using foul language and threatened us with calling the cops if we weren't packed up and gone within 5 minutes. He called the community security guard over who was nice enough and had seen us fishing but didn't care. But now he had no choice but to tell the guy, hey sorry I didn't see them from the security guard house, otherwise he probably would have got in trouble. He stood there and watched us pack up till we left. The crappy part was I had a major wind knot on my bait caster and was trying to get that sorted out when he showed up lol. I had to walk out of there with a bunch of line in one hand , my rods in the other.
  2. Hey South FLA, I didn't see you. I think you were in a different area. You were deeper into the Holey Land than I was. I only got a chance to fish the big lake. I didn't get as far as the Miami Canal. The only truck I saw was a white pickup and it probably belonged to the guys fishing the lake on a jon boat. But I'm glad you had some luck out there. Maybe next time I will try and fish the Miami Canal if the bank is maintained well like the big lake was.
  3. I actually fished the big lake and the canal that connects to it. The grass was nice and low, no gators, but no fish. I saw a couple bowfins ( i think). Saw some Gar, and small bass. I got the hit on a Yum Dinger on the second cast after I had tried top water and a crank. So instinctively I stuck with the Dinger for maybe another 30 minutes and got nothing. The water was pretty clear and there were a few spots that had small fish, other areas were completely desolate even between the pads. The bigger fish must have been held up in deeper water. I tried faster retrieval and slow retrieval to the point of barely moving.
  4. Well it was not a great day, only 1 today in Holey Lands. But at least it was a decent 2 pounds.
  5. Awesome thanks guys. Guess thats the plan for tomorrow! Short grass means I'm in. Hopefully I can hook up with a big un.
  6. Thanks for the advice Lou. I always wear boots no matter were I go fishing helps with bugs, and like you said snakes. If I do go to the Holey Lands I will most likely stick to any canals by the dirt roads. I won't be going to deep into the place either. At least not by myself. I'm not trying to become survivorman out in gator country.
  7. Hey guys I am planning to go out tomorrow morning and do some bank fishing. Considering the canal behind Holiday Park, or a few of the rest areas on Alligator alley (least probable), or maybe a bit further north to the Holey Lands. Any recommendations? Also having to consider the danger (gators and all), as I will be bank fishing most likely by myself. Any up to date fishing reports about those places would be great help!
  8. First one i caught on 4 inch molten craw colored havoc pit boss. The second was on a super fluke in baby bass color. I've had success with the super fluke in lilipad cover. What I really like about them is that they are extremely durable. I've gone through maybe 3 of them and I've probably caught anywhere between 10-15 fish. They also hide the hook very well so they are perfect for the lilipads.
  9. You did better than me. I went out around noon figuring the water would warm up a bit and I might get a bite. I ended up with a few dinks.
  10. Yeah I went out there once on foot but i was already tired from a full day of fishing elsewhere, plus I was being harassed by some enormous bug that was extremely intrigued by me and would fly all around me the entire time I was there no matter where I went I had that sucker follow me. I also decided to call it a day after I came across a small gator that I spooked into the water.
  11. You guys fishing off the bank or on a boat at Holey Land?
  12. I've always used live shrimp in the keys, and I've fished a hell of a lot of Saturdays down there. I've fished on bridges, under bridges, on party boats, you name it. The most success I've had is under some of the bridges, there is usually some rock, concrete that allows you to fish from. Also live shrimp can be found at every bait shop. Just keep in mind some of them have tiny, rinkydink shrimp that aren't worth buying. Sometimes you may have to hit a few bait shops before finding some decent shrimp. Another thing that does work if you are fishing from the shore, under a bridge is Thread Herring. Or in spanish, Machuelo. http://www.mexfish.com/fish/dbthher/dbthhersnow373b.jpg Cut the frozen thread herring up into 1 to 2 inch chunks hook it on the line and cast. Mangrove Snappers love that stuff. Make sure to take enough hooks, weights, and leader, if you want take some floaters to keep you from getting snagged on the rocky bottoms because this is inevitable.
  13. Hey everyone, its been a while since my last post. It's also been a while since the last time I did some fresh water fishin'. Been sidelined with back pains and when I've gotten a chance to fish I've been doing it in salt water. But I went out to Quiet Waters Park yesterday and caught 3 bass 1.5 to 2 pounders in about 2 and a half hours. My buddy did the same. Caught 1 on one of my custom painted deep diving cranks in a bass color with extra glitter. 1 on a cheap wlure crank and 1 on a yum dinger green with chartreuse tail. Felt good to be out there again, and hopefully I will be on here more often posting my success!
  14. Hey guys whats up? It's been a while since my last post. It's been a while since I went fishing too. Been trying to stay off my foot, my achillies is messed up. But I am going to be doing some fishing July 4th weekend for sure! Super excited for that. Hopefully I can do some fishing before that to get back in the groove.
  15. Walmart always has Bombers on sale. They always seem to have a box of them.
  16. I went out for about an hour and got a bite but lost it. To much wind at the park made it a tough day.
  17. Yeah I have suffix on one of my rods. But this new rod they spooled with mono for free so I took it. When it's gone I will spool it with suffix.
  18. Funny you mention it, I recently got that new rod and they spooled it free at Bass Pro. Their line is pure garbage. I got wind knots on 8lb mono, and my line snapped once as I cast. The lure flew to the other side of the lake. Lucky for me the wind was pushing pretty hard in my direction. About 10 minutes later my lure got close enough to my bank that my friend was able to hook it and reel it in for me. Almost lost the crank that caught me all them fish. I'd be down for that! I had the pleasure of fishing with Larry C. the other day. He's a great guy!
  19. Silver and Black Crank for 6 of the fish. The 7th with a lipless blue and silver crank.
  20. After several skunks I am back in the game. Today was a perfect day for fishing. I was able to connect on 7 fish. 2 were dinks but who cares because I got my PB today 2 times! Thats right! My first PB was a 2.15 lber and then the big headed largemouth that I couldn't weigh but judging by its length, large head and feel of the fish I would have to say it was anywhere between 4 and 4.5
  21. Hey Larry I just saw you post. Again great job on the Peacock and PB!
  22. Hi welcome to BR. Just a quick tip from me because I am also fairly new to the bass fishing, some of the guys helped me out while I was having a rough time getting bites. Turns out I may have been getting bites all along but I was using a Heavy rod (Saltwater Fishing). I also started fishing in the winter and some of the bites were so subtle I just wasn't feeling them. I switched to a Medium Field and Stream Inferno Rod and a small Penn real and now I can feel everything. Sensitivity is very important in Bass fishing. It's not like Saltwater fishing where you feel every nibble on your live bait. I just got a second Medium set up yesterday. I went with a Berkley Amp rod and a pflueger trion25 reel. This set up is even more sensitive and light weight than the other. I can cast these rods all day without getting tired.
  23. Today might be decent, only supposed to go up to about 84 degrees in the middle of the day.
