I would go with the Curado I as it is just about the best reel for money Shimano has ever made. The Chronarch D was a great reel, but the E fell a bit short IMHO. As a long time user of high end Shimano reels, I am overwhelmed by the new Curado. Add a couple of bearings to each handle, throw in some ABEC 5's for the spool, and it's close to the Metanium 13 !!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with the NRX893C but with the Calais 200DC, and 15 pound Tatsu. Have the Met XG but the "ONE" would have to be the Calais

I had planned on answering this response with showing what I said, and what you read, but won't go there. I know more about Shimano than most, but am always willing to learn more. Yes Sir. That is a correct statement. I was never implying anything about the older generation Shimano reels, and was taken out of context by another poster. What I objected to, as was posted to my email address by this forums administrators, was this statement: " No, not even close. You should read the post that I made and not make inaccurate conclusions. I never mentioned the Metanium, merely the Chronarch Ci4 and Curado I. I also do not go on the internet to just say things,(as per your post before being edited) and assure you that my intent is to assist others, and learn myself from forums such as this one. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that the spare breaks for the newer models, such as Ci4+ and Curado I, are just to replace the installed ones in the event of wear. As the new infinite SVS breaking system works so well, there is no need for lighter weights, as was the case with the previous generations of their reels.

Way to go. In for a penny in for a grand or two !!!!!! You won't be sorry, even 10 years from now.

Buy the best reel for the money you can afford. Seen too many beginners buy cheap, only to trade up a few weeks later, once they had the hang of a baitcaster. Practise, practise practise and you will never regret changing.

There has been a Ultra Light Tackle Club operating over this side of the world, for many years. They are not allowed to use line with a breaking strain above 4 lb. It has to be IGFA rated too. Most everyone uses MAXIMA line. I am sure they were originally a German company, but are now international, and have a US operation. Try it if you want the best !!

The reel works really well, but the tolerances are not to normal Shimano standards. When working on these reels I often have to spend more time than with other Curado's due to this. Materials used are also cheaper looking, giving many the impression of inferior build.

Without going into any technical detail, or boring you with "stories", those ABEC 5 bearings will be the best on the water. Sure that the more costly ones will spin and zing longer on your workbench, but I normally fish on the front deck of a bass boat !!!

Denatonium benzoate is added to the acetone to make sure no one drinks it ! The stuff is supposed to be the most bitter tasting chemical ever made. Is commonly added to antifreeze and other toxic fluids. I use acetone to clean bearings in a US machine. Not had a bearing with a plastic cage, so not an issue for me. If there were any plastic placed in the acetone it would melt.
