How Many Casting Combos?
My son is my fishing partner, so have to have two of everything ! Carry 34 combos on the boat at any time, and have a few more spare rods and reels at home. Value wise, I tell my son it's part of his inheritance

Your Most Expensive Combo?
Try living over here, where duties and taxes make everything expensive. NRX 894 with Antares HG cost $1,300.00.

History Line Shimano Reels
The super hero of Shimano owners, Dan aka Bantam once posted this. Helps to work out the age, and country of manufacture. First letter is the year, second letter is the month, third letter is the country of manufacture. The list is long so I am not going to type it all since it covers 1976-2015. I will post a couple and you can figure out the rest. We use A-Z for the years, so they reset every 25 years. Years: 2002- A 2015- N 1990- O 2001- Z Months are A-L: Jan- A Feb- B Mar- C Dec- L Country of origin: S- SIC (Japan) P- SCM (Malaysia)

Do Reel Washers Eventually Wear Out?
Reading between the lines, I am assuming you are referring to the metal washers, rather than the non-metal drag washers. The spring washers are prone to being flattened out due to many leaving their drags tight when storing the reel. Simple to back off the drag and avoid the pressure. In all my years, I have never seen a metal washer need replacing due to wear. Key washers are sometimes damaged by the roller clutch inner tube scarring the flat surface, but not to the detriment of the reel.

What Brand/type Of Rod Is This?
Have one that looks identical to the picture. Must be over 40 years old, and solid glass. Mine is a Lamiglas.

Cool Idea

Reel Tech Question
Small screwdriver on e-clips works, but not on c-clips. I use a rounded pair of tweezers that can push the ends of the clip, and then you can use the screwdriver. I hold the clip with my finger/thumb, so they do not take off the to the never, never land

Ever Get Such A Bad Bird Nest That You End Up Cutting It Out?
More times than I care to recall. The funniest was when I caught the line of my partner behind me. He was busy tying on a jig, and was licking the line before clinching the knot down. I ended up with a mother birds nest that required my patient wife to undo at home. He ended up with the jig hook through his tongue !!!!!!!!!

All Star Rods & Abu Garcia Reel Questions
A good buy for the price. You need to try them out. The All Stars are quality, especially the TWS. Would choose this over newer rods for spook and popper's any day. The reels may not be ideal for some bass fisher persons, but they are far better than some of the cheap stuff being sold. Sure you could try them, and off load for at least the same price if you are not happy.

Scorpion Vs Core
On the older version reels the listing below is what has been posted by the Shimano rep on other sites. The newer reels with SVS that I have, have mostly red ones, and some come with optional lighter white brakes. Has anyone seen other colours ? Lightest Smoke/Clear Lighter Red/Pink Heavier Green Heaviest Grey

New Shimano Curado Casting Screech Sound From Spool. Bearing?
On all the newer Shimano models with SVS braking, I have found that the "screeching" sound is from the brake pipe. There is a pamphlet that comes with the reel in the box, which appears to be an after thought, as it is not part of the reel instructions. It recommends that the brake pipe be cleaned after each use, and oil be applied to the pipe, and bearing !! They go on to say that this should be done every 5 uses, or once a month. With saltwater use it should be done after every use ! My, freshwater only, experience has been to do it when the reel tells you it needs to be done Q-tip with a drop of oil rubbed on the break cone, as suggested by others.

Pros And Their Sponsored Equipment
I was fortunate to fish with a top BASS pro in the US, a few years ago, and felt that he was honest with me. His reel sponsor did not make the best reels in the world, but they did the job well enough. He never had a reel last more than a few months of hard use.The sponsor would replace the reels when they failed. Something that he also said, was that all his reels had better quality gears and bearings than the models that were available to the public. When I buy any product, I want the best for the money, with reliability and longevity.

G.loomis/shimano For Crank, What To Choose?
Not really. Ideally you would want around 22", but it's easy enough to slow down the retrieve. Has plenty of power and really smooth.

G.loomis/shimano For Crank, What To Choose?
Bom dia from Africa Edgar. Best rod I know will be great for you is the NRX 893. So capable and sensitive. Team this with a new Shimano Antares and you will never look back. Expensive combo, but sure your Euro is stronger than US$ !!

What's The Best Reel You Have Ever Used?
Each and every Shimano reel I have owned over the last 30 years has been special, but the Calais 100A, Calais 200A, Calais 200DC and now the Antares HG are the best.

What's The Best Baitcasting Reel For Pitching And Flipping?
Appreciate the response with your thoughts DVT.

What's The Best Baitcasting Reel For Pitching And Flipping?
I hear what you are saying, and would be interested to know why you consider avoiding "insta-gage" setups ? I use a Core 100Mg FV and find it ideal for flipping a jig. Pitching a bait is something that can be done by many different reels.

300$ Budget For A Baitcaster
I am biased, as I am a Shimano fan. Would recommend you look at the Chronarch CI4+. Well built, smooth and casts really well. Suits the needs you mention, and comes in 6.2:1 and 7.6:1 retrieves. Costs around $ 269.99 from most outlets, but may be available at a little less if you shop around. Buy one, you won't be sorry

How Much Does The Rod Play In Casting Distance?
Difficult to answer the question, as there are so many variables to take into consideration. The rod would make a difference, not only in the action, but also the length. However, what reel was he using ? What size line did he have on ? Is his reel upgraded or recently serviced ? All these would have a big influence on the distance he was outcasting you by.

Shimano Corsair Cs 200?
They (Shimano) got that one very wrong. Even a free one would not interest me

Maxima Fishing Line
Worldwide, Maxima is a very popular line. I used to use it in the days when 10 and 12 pound monofilament line was the norm, and before the onset of fluorocarbon. It is IGFA rated so the breaking strength shown is what you get. Can not fault it in any manner. IMHO a very overlooked line that is as good as any, and maybe better than most.

Let's Play "remember When"
I remember repairing worms over a lit candle, as they were so hard to come by. Ditto gator tails were the go to bait, and we anchored near structure so as to be in contact with the bottom at all times. Mitchell 309 was my reel, with upgrade gears from a 409 to make the retrieve rate faster. Cotton Cordell was my first graphite rod. 5'6" long and super sensitive.

Handle Nut Removal Stx Question?? Help!
No screw on the back of the handle on this model. Get a sewing needle inside the screw hole, and pry the cover away from the handle. A bit of a tight fit that needs a gentle lift.

Lines You Don't Hear Much About
I agree. Really good stuff, especially in the lighter, 10/12 pound range. Very soft, sensitive, and abrasion resistant.
