  1. I'll give it a try down at the ohio river. SM fishing has been dismal there.
  2. WFN on fios and the outdoor channel during the some times of the year.
  3. I'm sure you'll appreciate the difference in quality between these 2 reels.
  4. I struggle with fishing deep. Especially deep cranking.
  5. A 3-4lb fish is big one where I fish. Most of the time I'm catching 1-2lb although I did catch my personal best this year which was 7+.
  6. When I fish on a boat I prefer with a buddy. From my yak and the bank I prefer fishing alone.
  7. I strongly recommend the alphas sv. I'm so impressed with how it casts just about anything in my tackle box. It has brass gears and an aluminum frame. It is saltwater safe. The sv spool is extremely forgiving. At the $200 I don't even have to think about it.
  8. My favorite bait. Thanks Glenn.
  9. For less than $50 more I chose the '13 Met over the Chronarch. I have more faith in the mg frame over the long haul.
  10. I recommend you start with a lefty since you have used spinning reels. My first bc was a righty which didn't feel natural since I started with spinning reels. I don't like the extra motion of switching hands after casting and I use my right hand to work the rod.
  11. The avid is the best imo.
  12. I fish when I feel like it which so far is all the time. I don't know anyone that is as obsessed as I am except maybe some of you guys.
  13. I notice when I'm distracted I don't do well. If I feel rushed for time I don't do well either. I always do better when I'm relaxed.
  14. I use leaders just long enough to not go through the line guide on the reel on my bait casters. On spinning reels I use much longer leaders that go on the spool. I was on vacation and caught a 3 1/2' hammerhead shark. It took me 20 minutes to land the fish on my medium power rod. The leader knot was an alberto that has been tied for a long time and it held beautifully.
  15. Are you using plastic worms? Do you only want a new rod? Which spinning reel do you own?
  16. I use 30lb the most. A good combination of strength and thickness.
  17. I'd look at the phenix m1 7'4"ML and pair it with a shimano brenious. I think a 50e could probably do 3/16 on this rod. I've heard the chronarch 50mg was a capable reel too.
  18. Phenix m1 7'2" ML sounds like an option for you.
  19. I have heard good things about the ALX rods, but I'd go with the 2 megabass rods. Why isn't this one of the options? Is there a $500 budget? Go with the 50e's for both.
  20. For frogs, I go leaderless.
