Reel and Technique Help
As far as the handle loosening up, on the other side of the reel exactly opposite of the handle there is a knob that tightens/loosens the handle. Just hold that in place and crank the handle. It will tighten right up.

Do you wear a "buff" when fishing? and let's see it if so.
You say you're not buying the skin cancer thing, but then you say you've had skin cancer before....??? So yeah......Anyway..... And yes, anyone with half a brain can put on sunscreen, just like someone with half a brain can choose not to want to be covered face and neck by some greasy liquid. And correct me if I'm wrong but outdoor sports were around before sun screen as well, were they not? So anything that was invented after outdoor sports is a no go? What is so confusing/threatening about a comfortable alternative to sunscreen?

Large worms and setup
I use Culprit 10"worms a lot. I usually use a 3/0-4/0 EWG Gamakatsu, 40lb braid on a 7' MHF.

Culprit Fat Max Worms?
Love the culprit Fat Max. If I'm throwing a worm, its ALWAYS a Culprit, and usually a Fat Max. A top producer for me during the summer. I throw them on a 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG.

I wear them for sun, wind and heat and cold protection. Nothing else. Do I think it looks cool? Not even a little bit. Do I care? Even less than how cool I think it looks. It's practical. That's it. I refuse to slather greasy goopy sunscreen all over my face and neck every couple hours, so instead I cover up completely. And on a hot day, they keep you a lot cooler than not wearing one. I DO NOT sweat under my buff even on the hottest days.

Smith Baits Series X Topwater Sunfish
Thanks for the info. I couldn't find anywhere a video that shows the action of the bait.

Bass season in NYS is now all year round, but from December until the third weekend in June it is artificial lures, and catch and release only.

Smith Baits Series X Topwater Sunfish
I have never seen or heard of this before but it looks interesting. Description from TW: "The Smith Baits Series X is an extremely versatile topwater bait that can produce the actions of several different topwater lures - all in one bait. Your line actually runs through the mouth of the bait, then down through the first segment of the body, where it pops out and ties to the line eye on the tail section. Designed to lay on its side like a dying or wounded baitfish, it's almost something you have to see to believe. Slight twitches with the rod make the tail come to life, and it is very easy to make it do anything from popping to walking-the-dog. Beautifully crafted with incredibly realistic detailing as well, each Smith Baits Series X is also equipped with super sharp Gamakatsu hooks." It has mixed reviews on TW, and the product video doesn't show the action of the lure at all. I'm thinking about picking 1 or 2 of these up because I am a sucker for anything topwater. Has anyone tried them?

Honestly I'm not sure. I just pulled the first good picture from Google. They don't seem to make that color any more. I couldn't find it on TW or the Rapala website.

- Species of American Trout
Here's a couple a couple more: The Dolly Varden and Bull trout were considered the same species until late 20th century. Also, the land locked form of Sockeye salmon is called Kokanee, and they actually get stocked in ponds in the adkirondack mountains. The landlocked form of Atlantic salmon is just referred to as "landlocked salmon". I have heard that in the Great Lakes, they stock a German subspecies of Browns. They are supposed to grow a lot bigger and they usually are missing 1 pectoral fin. The 13 pound brown I caught out of Lake Ontario happened to be missing a pectoral fin. Know anything about this?- Species of American Trout
Yup, ciscoes, and round whitefish as well.- Species of American Trout
Lake whitefish and mountain whitefish are both salmonids if I'm not mistaken. But I'm going to look it up. Update: https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10364_18958-45680--,00.html- Latest Catch Pics Thread
Fishing wasn't as fast-paced as my last trip out, but I did manage three good ones in just two hours, including two surprise smallmouth. I have never gotten a smallie out of this lake in 4 years of fishing it, and never heard of them being caught here either. I ended up with TWO good ones. I could not believe it! A month from now up here will only be mid-spawn lol. That's too bad you only have a month left in your season, because I love seeing all the pictures of the lunkers you have been posting.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
- Species of American Trout
In NY they also stock hybrid trout. Tiger trout, which is a brown/brook hybrid. And also "Splake" which is a brook trout/laker hybrid. Grayling is a Salmonid, but not actually a "trout". And if we're nitpicking, brook trout and lake trout aren't trout either--they're technically "char". All in the Salmonid family along with pacific and Atlantic salmon, steelhead (rainbow from the ocean or Great Lakes), and whitefish. - topwater
