  1. Zero bit I've had 2 hits! Water temp is still in the 30s...
  2. The strength of the braid isn't for the fish, it's for what you might have to pull the fish out of. That being said, I personally have no reason to go over 30 lb braid. It still allows me to throw in the really thick cover and rip it out. I won't go over 30lb braid unless I am given a reason too. (Musky fishing maybe).
  3. Dead pumpkinseeds probably = winterkill unfortunately. We just lost our ice about a week and a half ago so up here the spawn is still a ways off.
  4. I use 10lb Red Label as a leader on most set-ups. But I won't spool up a reel with fluorocarbon because I don't like the memory and casting issues it has. So I use a 6' fluoro leader. Before I tie it on, I run my fingers down the fluoro and pull a little to straighten it out. Do NOT stretch it because unlike monofilament, fluoro has no elasticity so it won't un-stretch itself, it will just be damaged and weakened.
  5. Has anyone used the Browning super-light baitcaster reel? I came across it today on the hunt for a new reel, I just couldn't find any reviews. It's supposed to be great for throwing lighter lures and it's inexpensive so I'm definitely interested but I just don't know much about the Browning name. Has anyone used their reels, or the super light specifically? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. High of 80 today!! But then a front rolls in for the rest of the week. Highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s. I have completely forgotten what it's like to reel in a fish.
  7. I agree...the Silvermax performs incredibly for the cost. And you can't go wrong with St. Croix. I think the Silvermax is a great starting BC reel. It's inexpensive, but performs well enough to learn on. It also has some room for error, unlike a lot of other inexpensive BC reels.
  8. Been out a couple times for about an hour and a half each time. Nothing yet, but I've had a few hits which was encouraging.
  9. Carp are fun as hell. Poor man's bonefish.
  10. I have a 5' 6" medium light F&S spinning rod I use for lighter lures. It's so much fun to reel in a 4 or 5 pounder with that thing.
  11. Yep, they're tungsten so they're small for their weight. He sells them cheaper than in stores as well. I have a bunch and they have been perfect for me.
  12. Dude I hate all this replay crap. It just doesn't feel like baseball. Like you said, any close play now managers argue immediately then wait for word from the clubhouse. IMO the only time a play should be reviewed is if it's questionable whether a home run was fair or foul. I cannot stand this replay stuff. They're trying to change baseball and I hate it. It's NOT football!
  13. Try fishing it after dark with a black senko or lizard. I have had a lot of success fishing super clear pits after dark.
  14. I guess they're doing "closer by committee" so they are going to have a couple guys closing until Johnson gets back on track. Cook is one of them.
  15. Find some heavy surface vegetation and throw that thing right in the middle of it. Then retrieve slowly.
  16. Gotcha...To me anything with the flat bottom is a shaky head. I have some football shaky heads and some non football shaky heads. I just refer to any jig head with a flat bottom as a shaky head and anything without a flat bottom as a jig head, whether it's football, round or whatever.
  17. Neither for me, always freezes my web browser.
  18. Push a hook through your finger, then before you try to remove it, ask yourself the same question.
  19. Josh Hamilton out 6-8 weeks...and he was finally doing good. And a heads up to anyone with Jim Johnson on their fantasy team: He is OUT as the closer for Oakland.
  20. I was always under the impression that all shaky-heads were stand-up. Ones that weren't were just "jig heads". The more knowledgable will correct/confirm shortly.
  21. I was hoping this was gonna be another Rob Ford episode lol. But there does have to be more to the story. I would like to hear his explanation if he has one.
  22. I would say Saratoga Lake or Lake George.
  23. I've seen this one time. It was last fall, the lake had already turned over, and we had a fairly nice sunny day. I noticed a big bass sitting still just under the surface directly in the sun. I threw a curly tail at him, hit him in the head and he slowly swam off.
  24. Try fishing the same spots after dark. I have found that in spots that produce a lot of decent sized bass, the BIG bass will be there at night. This is especially true during a heat wave.
