  1. Lots of great information! I'm a newbie to Anna also. Actually heading that way on Sunday....I know, I know, its gonna be crowded. Will have the wife and kids with me, so we are gonna get fishing in early, and then plan for swimming and such once around noon or so. We're gonna hit up some bridge pilings for crappie, then if thats a no go, work some of the deeper coves bass fishin with drop shots, shaky heads, etc. I've only been to the lake once, and put in at Anna Point marine. Does anyone know of any free boat ramps near that side of the lake?
  2. Fairfax county here. New to the area, and looking forward to learning the big Potomac over the next few years. Looking forward to contributing some reports to the forum.
  3. I noticed there is a rule that no gas powered engines are allowed on the lake. Is this set in stone, or can you just lift your outboard out of the water and use TM only? I saw that a bunch of lakes in N VA are like this.
  4. Fished Pohick bay this past Sunday. Fished deeper near the main river channel, T-docks, didn't even see any fish or bait on the finder, let alone catch anything. Water temps were low 40's closer to the Potomac. Made our way to the back of the bay and up near Pohick creek. Water temps got as high as 55 in the shallows. Saw lots of 8-10 inch gizzard shad flipping all over the flats. Didn't see much chasing. Threw lipless cranks and swimjigs. Caught one small bass maybe a pound on the swimjig. Worked the flats in the mid bay area also, 7-8 feet. Didn't see any bait there either. Pitched to laydowns in various depths along the shoreline too, nothing doing. Threw swimjigs, lipless cranks, crawled the bottom with jigs and paca craws. Drop shot around the T-docks too. Thought there might be some fish in the warmer water and the little warming trend we had last week, but couldn't find them if they were there. Looks like it's gonna be cold again for a week or so.
  5. Thank you for the advice! I'm coming from the Gulf coast and lots of inshore fishing. So I'm hoping an understanding of tidal movement will help me up here on the Potomac. I will play a wait and see approach to punching equipment. Sounds like if we do have thick grass growing, it won't be till summer.
  6. Hello! I'm new to the area, live near Ft Belvoir. I'm very excited to start chasing bass on the Potomac. What types of vegetation are on the Potomac and what size pitching weights do you usually use? As you know, these weights are pretty expensive, and I'm hoping to get an idea on what size I will need for the plants specific to the Potomac. Also, how thick do the grass mats get in the summer?
  7. Hello! I'm new to the Potomac river and not familiar with the vegetation. What size flipping/pitching weights do you usually use on the Potomac? I know it depends on what vegetation you're pitching. Thanks!
