  1. What line do you guys normally throwing when using jerkbaits and or poppers? I was looking at maybe getting a new setup, Cashion Topwater and Jerkbait rod with a Shimano Curado I or Lew's BB1 Pro, and I'm not sure about line yet. What do you guys think? Thanks
  2. I really enjoy using Sunline FX2 as much as I can, but since the smallest test is 50lb I only use it for flipping, frogging, and a few other applications. It is extremely soft, casts excellently, and I haven't broken off once.
  3. It is actually in some states illegal to throw back asian carp
  4. I see all these pictures of people who lay a bass down on the ground and take a picture with it on the grass or whatever it is on. Do people not realize that the reason bass are "slimy" is because they have a protective layer on the outside that fights off bacteria and viruses in the water that without it could kill them, and when they lay it on the ground that rubs off? I know it sounds a little extreme but I've done a lot of research on this and it can be very harmful to their health. I don't know, maybe it's just me being over worried about bass populations. What do you guys think?
  5. I have never caught a bass on a spoon, but whenever I fish for walleye or pike in a deep hole I will use a spoon.
  6. For braid the line memory on the spool I had was awful. Normally braid has almost no memory (or at least what I normally use). It was extremely loud through my guides (tried it on my Veritas and Vendetta) and overall it didn't cast near as well as other braids I use (Sufix Performance Briad, FX2, Power Pro). Maybe I just got a bad spool but for $20 I would rather just get sunline or power pro.
  7. What braid do you use? I recently bought Sufix 832 30 pound braid for my bb1 and hate it. Just took it off today and I'm looking for some other braid. Thanks
  8. Catch and release for sure
  9. For smaller applications and especially in clear water I like to throw a Keitech Swing Impact Fat on a 5/0 swimbait hook rigged weedless. For a larger swimbait I will throw anything from Mike Shaw's line of swimbaits. Very good quality and the bass love 'em. Hope this helps
  10. For any of you fellow Minnesotans out there where are some good places to bass fish around the twin cities? From either shore or on a boat? And what do you normally throw on each lake? Thanks in advnace
  11. Finally had the guts to open up my reels to clean them after watching bassresource's reel cleaning videos and big thanks to him for making the videos which helped a lot, but what do you guys use on the worm shaft grease or oil? A lot of people who use different brands will debate this one but I use all Lew's reels so I'm just wondering what you Lew's guys use? Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check those lakes out, but don't worry I won't steal your spot haha. Good luck this year
  13. Cold Front: Jerkbait, can't beat it Warm Front: Crankbait or soft swimbait
  14. So I recently bought a few reels from TW and I am very impressed by their service. Bought the Lew's BB1, Lew's BB1HZ, and Lew's BB1 Pro PS1HZL. I'm making this post because it wasn't just the reels (which I received yesterday and cleaned, lubed, and lined them today) I was impressed with but TW customer service. Found a price online at another website for the BB1's at $120 and the BB1 Pro at $169 which are crazy good prices. So I called TW and asked if they could do a price match because their service is great and they matched the price and got them shipped out next day after that. Big thanks to TW
  15. I agree, the paint job on them are what makes me want to get some (that and I'm always looking for new tackle haha). Hope it does well for you, good luck!
  16. I've never greased my own reels only put oil on, so I was wondering do you put grease or oil in the lube port? Thanks for any advice
  17. Has anyone used any of the hard baits in Gary Yamamoto's new lineup? They look sweet and are priced well. If you've had any experience with them let me know what you thought about them, thanks
  18. Jerkbaits are meant for erratic action so I normally go for the brightest colors possible unless the water is super clear. Normally purple darter or tiger roan for Smithwick's in my opinion. Caught my 2nd best bass on the purple darter. Take a look at the bomber pro long a jerkbait, much better action than the Smithwick's imo. The bomber was what I caught my best bass on. Hope this helps
  19. Where is that lake located? I normally have to travel all the way up a few minutes past grand rapids from coon rapids to get some good largemouth
  20. One more thing...the rod can't be more than 7'3" due to travel purposes and my budget is around $100 give or take a few bucks. Thanks
  21. I'm looking for a topwater rod to throw frogs, poppers, buzzbaits, etc. It will be paired with a BB1 Pro and 65lb braid. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice
  22. Can anyone recommend any crankbaits that run anywhere in between 8 and 20 ft? I am looking to buy some deeper crankbaits and this is the range of depths I need to get some for. I would prefer to not spend more than $8-$10 per crankbait (and preferably less). I was thinking of the Rapala DT series or Strike Kings but I've heard of the rapalas breaking and the strike kings not running well. I will be throwing these crankbaits with a BB1 5.1:1 on a G Loomis GL2 847 C CBR (7' Heavy Moderate) and 30lb Sufix 832 Lo-Vis braid. Thanks
  23. Squarebill: Strike King KVD 2.5 Lipless: Strike King Red Eye Shad Jerkbait: Bomber Pro Long A (best action I've ever seen for a jerkbait) Top water: Snag Proof Perfect Buzz Frog
