Best <2500 Lb Rig
Unless your fishing big rough water, look for the widest 14' or 16' jon boat you can find. id say minimum ~42" bottom width 60" beam. Good options are the lowe or alumacraft 1448 (14' 48" bottom) or 1648 (16' 48" bottom). The wide bottom is the difference between being afraid to move around in the boat, and jumping all over the boat with no fear of swimming. Keep watching craigslist for decked out ones and your set. A 1648 alumacraft weighs approximately 310 lbs which gives you plenty of wiggle room for added weight (trailer, motor, deck, gear.....). This would be my recommendation, the subaru would have no problem towing these. And they are cheap to own and modify. On a side note one other thing to remember, just because your vehicle can tow 2500lbs, doesnt mean it will tow 2500lbs well. That number is just the point as to which you become unsafe to other drivers on the road. Also need to factor in even though it may tow ok on the road, will it be able to drag the rig up a steep boat ramp. Just some things to consider

Any Experience With Alumacraft?
I had a 2002 14' crappie jon for 5 years. Got my start in the tourney world with it. Bounced that boat off everything imaginable, had it everywhere, even in the upper chesapeake bay on a not so amazing day . They are strong hulls and built well

Trailer Hitch Problems
With my truck ive made it a habit of putting one wrap of duct tape around square part of the hitch before i install it in the truck reciever. It helps with rattling and noise and takes out a little bit of the slop. For your case its probably either a worn hitch pin in the truck that doesnt fit tight enough, or a sloppy reciever on the trailer. If the trailers a 1992 maybe it wouldnt hurt to slap a new reciever on there. Just my $0.02

Bps Carbonlite Vs Abu Garcia Veritas
I've owned 2 carbonlites and 2 veritas, 6'6 mh casting veritas - good all around creature/ lighter jig rod. I liked it for pitching docks and laydowns with various creatures. Great backbone. Ended up selling it just because I had picked up some more expensive tackle and didn't used it 6'6 medium veritas spinning- I've tried using this rod for multiple things. Finesse jigs, small jerkbaits, worms, senkos, flukes, and shakeyheads. Nothing felt right to me. It's weird, the rod was very stiff, yet it seemed to have no power. I don't like it and will probably sell it soon. 6'6? Or 6'8? Mh carbonlite casting micro guide- SUCKS. It's a shame too, because this is a good rod. Stupid light in the hand yet great power. A friend of mine has the regular guide model and it's awesome. I accidentally bought the microguide one, and after having it sent back and replaced twice by basspro for guides snapping off, it now sits in the reserves in my room. I recommend this rod with regular guides 6'8 carbonlite spinning regular guides - great all around rod. I've threw almost everything with this rod and it always performed well. Nice action and power, also stupid light in the hand. Unfortunately it got broken ( had it in my truck and it got crashed into and snapped inside the cab) Both are good rods for the $, I would have to say the spinning carbonlites are the best deal

Been fishing my whole life and bass fishing regularly since about 12. 20 now in 2 local clubs and fish as much as possible. Just upgraded to a tracker pt185 with a 75 merc for this season that I can't wait to put some fish in. Looking forward to learning and contributing here
