  1. my older minn kota transom mounted tm was able to turn the top piece 180 degrees to accommodate using it on the bow. It was just two screws on the shaft with an implement to keep it bolted to the shaft. Unscrew those, turn the head and your done.
  2. First thing....you don't have to pay anyone to put on a hitch. If you have an extra set of hands it will probably take about 20 mins to do. I did it on my little SUV. Wiring was a little tougher but I had a friend who knows more help me out. Secondly....def go modified V. I drove a flat bottom with the 25 hp and it was a little scary at full throttle. Mine is currently a modified V with 25 hp and I can get into skinny water with no issue and has a much smoother ride. The v will cut off some of the space from your front deck but I find it better to have a smooth ride rather than another square foot of space. That boat looks good. but most of the time older jon boats with a console will have the front of the boat covered with aluminum. You'll also have that windshield to deal with. I prefer more space on such a small boat
  3. It was ok. If I can remember we would normally catch a few but I cant remember any monsters. I didn't fish it as much as lake Marburg in Codorus state park on the southside of hanover
  4. hahaha. I used to fish redman. Lived in Hanover.
  5. no way is that only 700lbs. My trailer alone is 350lbs (had to have it weighed in FL). And I only have a 14 ft with a 25 hp. I would assume somewhere around 1000lbs for everything. Unless newer boats/trailers have the technology to weigh less?
  6. awd will help you to pull the boat up the ramp and I cant see it being a bad thing with a trailer weighing down the rear
  7. I'd stick with aluminum if you are hauling with that CRV.
  8. I tow my 14 ft alumacraft jon boat with a 4-cyl Mitsubishi outlander. Probably weighs around 800lbs with boat/motor/trailer/gear. It doesn't get up very fast but it still gets me to the lake. Just be easy on that transmission and don't get yourself into any steep/slippery ramps if possible. Other than that....no big deal. But I definitely would not want to haul a bigger boat than my jon.
  9. I'll be out on winter park chain showing some northerners what a real florida bass is like. Tight lines boys.
  10. I was invited on a fishing trip this weekend....ran it by my girl and she was like "do whatever makes you happy".....to which I immediately made dinner arrangements.
  11. Definitely have a waterproof Bluetooth speaker always playing tunes or streaming the Orioles game at a reasonable volume. Nothing better than listening to the baseball game and watching the sun go down from your boat with a rod in your hand and a cold one at your feet.....
  12. Fishing in winter park, fl tomorrow morning around 7 am. Have another spot on my john boat. Message me or reply if interested!
  13. I've been catching both bass and crappie after dark on a chrome lipless crank.
  14. I pulled up to a ramp and saw a guy down in the water working on his jetski. After about 30 mins of repair the guy jumped up on his ski, fired it up, and started to back out. Just about that time I saw the rope attached to the front of the jetski fall into the water, followed by a "RRRRIIIIIIIPPPP" and his motor shut down. He tried to start it up a couple times till I told him that he sucked the rope up into the motor, haha. He was so ticked at himself and all I could do was turn the other way and laugh.
  15. I'll be honest...I have an alumacraft v-haul (maybe not fully considered a deep v) but I get in skinny water all the time. Yes it drafts slightly deeper than a flat bottom but ive had it in less than a foot of water with two of us on it and only got stuck a couple times. If you think you'll get stuck in skinny water just open it up and plane across, haha.
  16. Yep, I agree. After purchasing my boat and trailer from craigslist I quickly found out when registering in Florida that the trailer was not titled to the name that was on the bill of sale. This freaked me out. I tried to get a hold of the guy that sold it to me but I received no response. What I had to do was go back into the DMV with the weight of the trailer and claim it was homemade. No problem getting it registered. They didn't even look at it! I thought that was outright crazy....but I guess that's Florida. Sorry about your buddy's trailer....what pain in the ass.
  17. I would start with craigslist. When I wanted my first boat I went to craigslist and picked up a 16 ft fiberglass canoe for $125 (canoes are generally cheaper than kayaks in my experience). After buying paddles, depth finder and trolling motor mount (my uncle gave me his trolling motor) I may have spent another $150. The canoe was awesome for getting into spots quietly but way too slow to get out to bigger water and fish. Something to consider....without roof racks or a trailer I was unable to transport the canoe without a bigger vehicle and another person. That was my main issue. I had to rent a box truck to get it to anywhere but the lake where the canoe is located. I still have the canoe (it is for sale if there is anyone in the Orlando area that needs a canoe...) but I recently picked up a 14' Alumacraft v-haul aluminum jon with a 1978 25hp Johnson on the back and a trailer for $800 on craigslist. It has had its issues, enough that I named it "It's Always Something", but I am learning more about my boat and motor every time there is a problem to fix. What I love most is the 25 is enough to get 2 of us up to about 24 mph, has enough room to stand and fish and also did not cost an arm or a leg. I would just keep my eye on craigslist. Sometimes people are willing to part with their boat for almost nothing. Just don't get scammed. Make them put it on the water and run at WOT as well as reverse. If it floats and the motor runs most of the other issues can be glanced over until you find the time/money to fix it. Good luck! Its a hell of a lot of fun trying to find your fishing machine.
  18. Yep, Ive got a 14 ft alumacraft v-haul with a front deck. No problem standing up and fishing by myself or with another person on board.
  19. Ive been getting skunked lately and I've been blaming it on this Florida heat. I've been using senkos, lipless cranks, t-rigs and topwater without so much as a tap. While the heat may have something to do with it, I've very recently discovered the ned rig. Why didn't I try this before? Got out and caught 3 keepers in about 1.5 hrs on my local lake! Works great for shallow and deep water and keeps very clean even without a weedguard. Just saying if you are using your normal techniques and lures and not catching its time to change it up. The ned rig will be in my tackle box from here on out. Thanks Ned!!
  20. Haha, with a '78 25 HP Johnson and a 14 ft v haul jon with two people I need to keep it WOT if I wanna get anywhere. I don't mind it. The old Johnson doesn't seem too either.
  21. You don't think the ring will pull through the aluminum if I don't include a backer of some sort?
  22. New boat owner here. I recently bought a v haul jon boat. Last time I was trailering it I snapped through the old bow ring. I have been debating how to fix this. The ring is riveted into the front of the boat. It is all external. No rivets seen inside the boat. Im wondering if anyone has any advice as to removing the old bow ring and then how to replace (machine shop?) with a new one. I know they sell bow rings but I was trying to not drill holes in the boat and I'm not sure what backing (shape of otherwise) piece I would be able to use with the v haul. Any advice would be appreciated as I am lost about how to go about this.
