A Shimano Sahara would be hard to beat in yourprice range. They are solid reels, and only run 80-90 bucks. If you want to spend a little more, the Saros is great as well.

Instead of flouro, I would HIGHLY recommend going with a 10-20 pound test braided line like Power Pro. It will not come off the spool in loops, has no stretch, and is extremely sensitive. If the water you fish is fairly clear, you could also tie a 2-3 foot piece of the mono you already have to the end of your braid, as some people believe that fish can see braid, and that it deters them from biting. You are right on with a M/F rod. At that price range, I would take a look at a Fenwick HMG. Great rods at a great price.

If you can get one for 120-140, I say go for it!

I have used 2lb Fireline of spinning reels for stream trout for a while now, only problem is that it has 0 abrasion resistance, other than that, its pretty good.

Thicker cover, go with the heavier powered rod. For an all-around frog rod, find a stiff, powerful MH rod, maybe one with an XF action.

Micro Cranks and #1-2 Vibrax.

20LB Power Pro is what I use. You can cast light baits a mile with it.

Fenwick HMG rods are hard to beat in that price area. As far as the model, I would go with the 7' MH/F. As long as you will not be fishing any super heavy cover, that rod should do fine. If you will be fishing some thicker stuff, and are willing to go a bit higher in price, a MH St Croix has a TON of backbone. I have also heard that the *** *** rods are fairy stout, so I would assume they would make great frog rods as well. Don't listen to the people who tell you that a baitcaster is necessary for frog fishing, I fished a frog in some pretty nasty stuff with A MH St Croix Premier and never had a problem.

Not really falling off, but I have flipped a few canoes and kayaks. Its actually quite fun when there isn't 1000$ worth of fishing stuff not tethered down on board.

The longest rods I see commonly used for bass fishing are 8 footers, sometimes a little longer for swimbaits and such, but this past fall I tried a 10'6 steelhead rod with a Senko and was pleased by how well it handled the lure and by how much casting distance I was getting. So my question is, why don't people use such long rods for bass fishing? Is it because bass generally associate with specific structure and cover, so a shorter rod offers better casting accuracy? Any insight would be appreciated.
