Dumbest Or Most Silliest Things Said To You Or Heard While Fishing
Arigs are stupid, they dont catch fish... That 10" worm is too big... You dont need that many poles... Can't catch a fish at 70 mph... If its raining, I aint going... Feb is too early to go to Guntersville... Nitros are as good as Ranger boats... All silly and dumb lol

Anyone Trade Up Boats Every Few Years?
I would love to get one every 4-5 years. Boats have out priced the working man in my opinion. I have a 2002 19' with a 200hp. I gave around $30K new. This boat now is up near and with a 225hp over $50K. I can't do that. Even if the payment was affordable, I can't let myself pay $50K or more for a fishing boat. Won't do it. I look at them all the time, kinda like a wish book like when I was a kid. Only in my dreams will have a new Z520C Ranger.

New Lures You Tried In 2014 That Did Not Work?
Arashi baits. Bought several and never caught a bass. LC Fat Smasher. Threw that thing with confidence and alot too. Never turned a fish. Tough time of year but it hurts when it doesnt produce. Rage bugs did nothing for me, went back to Dbombs and sweet beavers. Bought a couple Spybaits but never had the right conditions to try. I think that is the only new baits that i used that didnt work.

Zoom Centipede
I like a split shot mini carolina rig. I always threw them on spinning rods too. I have bags and bags of these. Might put some in the flea market this weekend.

Great Tournament
That is very cool. Even to just fish against an Elite would be cool, but you beat him! Not diminishing your acomplishment at all, please don't take this that way, but he has had a rough year this year. He has documented his struggles and had some interesting articles on bassmasters.com. Now he has you on his mind in the off season lol. Bet he comes back for you next year. lol. We sit around drinkin a few beers and talking about fishing against these guys. I think they are good, but we have some big stix in our club too. They just fish a club, a very expensive high profile club.

Strike King Vs Luckestrike?
I haven't had an issue with Lucky Strikes jerkbaits. The square bills dont deflect off cover as well as the KVD ones, but the KVD ones are iffy on quality. I have bought several KVD 1.5s that wont run right out of the package. After messing with it for 4-5 casts, I just tie on another. For the price, I guess you can do that. I can get 3 of the KVD for one LC. I have some of the Academy ones too. they seem alot like the Lucy Strike ones to me. Side note, the Arashi bill doesnt do well on clay/mudd. It is too sharp or something. Just brings in dirt. The others do not. So in my opinion the KVD square bill gets my nod. If money was no object, I would shoot for the LC.

How To Know When To Move From A Spot Or Switch The Technique
Alot of times I will change baits while fishing the same structure. Big laydown, go by it with a crankbait, throw a spinnerbait around and in it, toss a jig around and in it and then a smaller texas rig. Same with a grass bed or a flat. i don't just go through an area with one bait. When i say area i mean "backs" of a creek, scondary points an main lake. Yesterday i started in the back of a creek and work several different baits out to the secondary points. I caught small ones at first then fund some keepers as i moved out of the back. I like to keep moving in the fall. Get the right bait figured out then you can go back to some of the areas you caught bigger fish and hit it again with that bait. So to answer your question, I move and change baits ALL the time. I don't count the casts or the minutes. Just fish whats in front of you and see if you can put the puzzle together. Good luck, we all learn something everytime we go out.

Kvd Squarebills In The Fall?
Threw it on a swimbait rod and felt good about the area. No takers on the giant squarebill. I did manage my best two bass of the year on other baits. Killed a deer sat and caught hawgs on sunday. Gotta love the fall. I will put the giant sq bills up til Guntersville this feb.

Biggest Fish You've Ever Seen (But Not Caught....)
I was 14-15 years old. Snuck into a pond. Saw a bass beached up in inches of water below a duck. It was very large and it looked like it was beached like a whale. It looked like it was waiting for the duck to enter the pond. I had a stanley jig with a no. 11 pork frog and casted it next to the bass. It turned and ate my jig. I about bleeped my britches. Set the hook fought it about half way in and it came off. I was devastated. I stood there and the dang fish beached itself back up under the duck. I casted again and the same thing, bam. Fought it again and it jumped off. i stood there for 30 more minutes and she never came back. That fish was huge. I will NEVER forget that day for the rest of my life. I also carried a spinning rod in with a beetle spin that day. I caught a 13" hammerhead bluegill that day. Put it in the freezer to mount and my mom threw it away after we had an issue with the freezer. Man the memories these forums bring back... can't wait til I can make more memories with my 6 year old son Sunday.. Fish On!

More Banning Of The Arig..
Cheap and lazy? They cost a small fortune and you have to be strong and halfway fit to throw it allday. A lazy person with no imagination would never throw one of these baits. I do hook some bass on the outside sometimes. I never once thought it hurt the fish. The hook was in them but no bleeding or tearing of the skin. I have done way worse with big crankbaits or spooks.
-
More Banning Of The Arig..
It hurt me when I threw the big stuff at Guntersville. I had to put it down and chunk traps for 30 minute breaks. I had the big shadolicious baits on all JWill hooks. That dude was a beast. Caught several 5 pounders and a double with a 3 and a 4 pounder that day. They just hit it like a truck going the other way. I don't care if the big tournys ban it, I just think it is uncalled for. It is "ONE" bait in my book. I tie it on one eyelet and throw it like a spinnerbait.
-
More Banning Of The Arig..
It is a bait that catches bass, not a "rule' or background check.. Is there another bait that is banned? A jerkbait and several topwaters have three treble hooks on them, thats 9 hooks.
-
More Banning Of The Arig..
Now you can't use one at any BASS events. I like them and think you should be able to use them. Wish Indiana would have kept the five hook limit too. We had it for a year, I made a ton of them and then they dropped it to 3 hooks. I say fuey on the Arig banning! catches fish and thats what I am trying to do. Carry on, thanks for the rant...

If You Had 7 Rods - What Would Be Tied On Each?
What I tie on at home usually gets changed as soon as I start fishing and sometimes at the ramp. I always have two texas rigs, jerkbait, spinnerbait, single 4/0 hook for flukes/senkos/frogs, topwater, two crankbaits and I keep an Arig rod setup. Well thats eight but you get my drift.

Your Pb Planned That Day?
Every spring I go down to Guntersville and I "plan" on catching my PB every year. Two years ago a friend caught a 12lber and I was amazed at that fish. I will be planning on it again in Feb. Planning on a DD in 2015.

Kvd Squarebills In The Fall?
Excited to see that my new KVD 8.0 should be on my porch when I get home. I plan on throwing htem on the edges of the grass this weekend. Hope the big bait means big bass. I like 1.5 in the flats along with lipless baits. I always seem to have both tied on at the same time. Guess i can't make up my mind. Also like the change up every now and then.

Thoughts On Trying To Hitchhike Onto The Water With Boaters At The Launch?
Had a nice older couple ask me if I would like to go with them down in the gulf. I was dead set on going but the wife said ABSOLUTLY NOT. lol She said thats the stuff you read or see on the news. They were putting fresh snapper on a grill outside our condo. I went over to talk fishing. They would have been great and I would have had a blst. Dang women... Sorry not the OP's original question but kinda sorta. I would not feel comfortable taking a complete stranger from a ramp with me. Off of a forum or meeting them first somewhere maybe. At least a forum you can check out their posts and see what kind of person they are....

Tournament Money
I have been paid to fish this year. Doesn't happen every year. It is nice to break even most years. This year I have been fortunate to win a few and make a check in the rest. Our club has been way down since 2010. We had 70 paid members then and now we are about 45. We only get 14-17 boats now. Winner gets around $350-400. Good luck this is a tough sport when it comes to competition. Everyone wants that little chunk of cash and they don't just hand it to you. Out work, study and fish them and it will come.

Lucky Shirts And Other Superstitions When Fishing
I just noticed when my partner and I wear our Bass Mafia shirts we win money. I ask to get a picture when we win money and every single time the picture has those shirts. I guess I know what we will wear in our Classic....

Anyone Else Have Bass Decor Around The House?
I have a fishing room and a hunting room.(entire full basement). Tried real hard to keep the decor seperate. Don't know why but it worked out that way. Fishing room has 10' of peg board filled with lures. A desk to work on rods/reels or lures. Four bass mounts and two Crappie mounts. Numerous poster size pic of catches and buddys from fishing trips. Hunting room has 50" flat screen, 8 deer heads, 4 skull mounts, racoon, turkey, 2 ducks, furs from several animals, Jackalope, and several homemade barn wood frames. Oh and I built a barnwood and old tin bar. The ceiling is all 100 year old tin also. One wall has a full mural of deer walking around a lake. I framed it in barnwood to make it look like an 8'X15' picture. I am working on the fishing room ceiling now. I am using green tin to make it look like a cabin roof. All the walls are fake barnwood panels that were made for outdoor sheds or buildings. It is the perfect get away.. Wish I could spend more time in there.... Up stairs not one single fishing/hunting thing. Nothing..

Unexpected Win?
Yep did it this year myself. Had around 18 pounds at a lake where 20+ is the norm. Got to the weigh in and everyone had 1-2 fish. Had the sand baggers wait til the last minute and they had like 9 pounds. We doubled the field and the whole day we were like, one more fish or we are one fish from the money... I have been fortunate this year. two wins, two seconds and a third out of 7 tournys. We have actually been paid to fish this year. That makes it so nice not worrying about gas and oil money...
