  1. Do you guys find the rattles to be mostly detrimental? I know the redeye shad and now the bill lewis rattle trap, as well as the sebile flat shads all come in silent models.
  2. anyone ever use any of the Sebile stuff? The Flat Shadd? or any of the new Lipless Seeker and Vibe
  3. just couldnt handle that delaware river...
  4. What is your favorite brand of lipless crankbait? I am curious on what your favorite brands and models are and looking into trying a couple.this fall.
  5. Bingo! KVD at the delaware river....
  6. Topwater wakebait, try a jackall mikey. I have been retro baiting lately and throw a devils horse, catches tons of fish.
  7. or you can pick up a copy of Bill Siementels "big bass zone" and learn just about everything you really need to know, including what types of locations, baits, and techniques. More importantly it teaches you the right mindset to have when targeting trophy fish. I don't get to metapausal over people asking for the "magic" bullet, because the majority of those people will not achieve what they are looking for anyways, and if they do... they will not know how or why they caught a big one. Remember this is a hobby and a weekend sport for 95% of the fisherman out there. they are just looking to make the most of there fun time. the fishing Industry has always promoted that mindset anyways, its nothing new... that is how lures get sold. When I lived out west, I'd get crappy if I didn't see anything over 5lbs.... now that i live in new jersey, a 5lber is most guys personal best fish for a lifetime, and a few avid anglers have been lucky at a 6lber.... Its all about perspective and what you want to do with your fishing time.
  8. jigs are a powerful tool! Nice northeast PB, I'm sure you'll break that one pretty soon
  9. i started her off with a senko, and she rigs them herself. She now fishes a philips crippled killer (topwater prop bait) and she loves it.
  10. I grew up in California, and now throw swimbaits in New Jersey.... yeah pretty depressing story, Id start off with 6" topwater swimbaits,. That way you wont snag to often, and get discouraged after losing a price bait. you'll still have a good chance at catching decent fish. Then if the swimbait bug infects you more, you can go up to larger sizes.
  11. I'm happy he didnt make it in, its a nice change of pace.
  12. Fish it at night. especially this time of year is when the big fish like to eat and feel more comfortable doing so, the darkness helps hide your presentation a bit.
  13. we all make poor decisions every now and then
  14. LMB Bass dont have the same color spectrum that walleyes or trout have. So yes color is indeed much more important for those species, But to say bass are not site feeders? that I feel is wrong. The latteral line theory only works when the lure is very close to the bass, and its displacing enough water. Especially in windy and choppy conditions were LMB often get there Buffet on... they arent feeling the crankbaits with there latteral line nearly as much as youd think. That is why spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits etc, all excell under those conditions...Becuase the flash from the movement of the lure, is the predominate attraction. Not so much the vibration of the lure itself. the whole pattern of "Red Colored Lipless crankbaits" in early spring proves my point more.
  15. i use braid with a 3 foot 25lb mono. I dont have issues with the hardbaits being chewed off. It happend once this season, and from a monster pickeral (we dont have pike down here) But for the most part, its not an issue, I fish 4 days a week, and losing 1 swimbait this summer isnt a tragedy. You can use staright braid line with better results, but i think it spooks the fish when fishing during the day time. I do fish a few soft plastic swimbaits, and the pickeral due tear them up, They even bite the creme worm tails off my topwater rat swimbaits. So youll find pickeral and pike to be a annoying at times. But they add to the fun of swimbait fishing becuase they are vicious.
  16. Top water swimbaits, bb1 jr/ Jackall Mikey 6.4 have been dinomite all summer for me. Also I fish an Old Devils Horse, that has been excellent on in small fish lakes.
  17. I use redhooks for Crawfish crankbaits, namely Traps. thats about were it stops for me, but I am an open book on this one.
  18. did you say pike? get a BBZ1 jr. in perch color... they catch the small and bigger fish too. if you have pike, forget the savage gear line thru baits, unless u plan to be glueing them together and potentially cutting you off completely. and a snapping turtle peel the soft plastic off the kevlar core. I had a massive pickeral bite through 25lb mono and sever my 8" savage gear line through... a pickeral... just some food for thought.
  19. Top water excells in low light conidtions... and it often times outshines other techniques, becuase the fish can track and find the bait better, with the water displacement a topwater lures creates.... Also it can create some pretty funny reaction strikes, just from your lure hitting the water.
  20. they will eat whatever they want to eat. you can see them on youtube, search goliath grouper "chew on this" and they use Rays for live and cut bait
  21. It makes a huge difference in my soft plastics, especially craws. a little orange/chartreuse on the tips of the claws has made a differance for me in the past.
  22. I'm all about custom painting, Though I cant always afford it. I have learned the hard way what a "Spike-It Dip-n-Glow Marker" can do for your soft plastics. So tell me how are hard baits any differant? when you incorporate what loss of light does to color in the water, Or how wind/water turbulance, breaks up light in the water... youll learn how much color plays a big factor in a species of fish that lagrely dispite what people think about the latteral line, are 90% of the time sight feeders.
  23. biggest question i have is, do you have any idea what a 13lb bass might accually look like? or even a 10lb bass? As far as jumping golf courses.. And growing up in socal, i have fished a few golf courses and city park lakes... I'd be careful with fishing any private property in New Jersey, The law doesn't mess around here, and neither do the people, I don't fish anywhere unless I am a guest or have direct permission or proof i have rights to fish there. And lastly... If i even had a clue that a state record would be near by, i wouldn't even have made this post twice, let alone once.
  24. i cant wait for the 6" line thru!
