Always change the lower unit oil before winter as to make sure there is no water in lower unit. If it freezes and cracks the gear case you'll be in a world of hurt. Also be sure to always use new fill and drain plug seals when you re-install. It definitely takes a fair amount of water in the unit to freeze, but it is cheap insurance to keep your motor running. Also as a side note for something to do as far as regular maintenance is to change out your fuel filter element.

When you are saying WC where are you referring to? I don't blame you either as that is definitely a haul from Lawrence. Do you ever get out on Perry much at all? I haven't fished there much this year but I spent about every weekend for two years straight fishing Perry. One thing I learned....if they aren't on in either of the marinas pack up and go home haha. I have heard it's started producing some good smallies though.

Heck when it's tough is the best time to go out and fish a tournament. If you're the one that figures something out (or gets lucky haha) it doesn't take much. Lacygne has fished tough over the past couple of Winters, but outside of March now is the best time to catch one of the 9's or 10's that swim in that lake. Back in the late 80's my cousin pulled out the lake record around this time of year...picture is still hanging on the board in the marina after all these years and that fish now hangs on my bedroom wall.

Fished the Backlashers tournament at Lacygne this weekend and took 4th with one fish for 3.45. Talk about a grind haha. I think there were 25 boats out there and only 5 fish were caught. The only two fish we boated was my chunky 16 incher on the dam and then my buddy's keeper we caught in the river. Did anyone else fish?

So I heard one of your guys cooked up the hot sauce that is at Mondo. Jackson gave me a bottle to take to work with me where I promptly had everyone in the office try a drop or two. It succeeded in making a few shed some tears.

I agree the largemouth are thin, but I've caught a few that are chunky. I only live 5 minutes from the lake so after work about every other night I hook up the boat and head over there. Only thing about that lake that annoys me is all of the docks and for whatever reason I cant seem to get bit flipping them.

I lurk on here and rarely post, but I wanted to say thanks for the Melvern reports on here. I fished on Saturday morning down there and didn't do so hot. Had a couple of buddies pull up to the ramp at 1:00 just as I was leaving and they had a 30+ fish day so I'm assuming they were just getting around to biting after that front. Also I never see anyone post about fishing Wyandotte County Lake anymore. If you guys haven't ventured out there then you are missing out on a real treat this year. We've been catching 18 inch smallies with some regularity as well as good largemouth. The grass has turned that lake on which is nice considering over the past 5 years it's been a tough lake to catch anything with size.

Went down to Melvern with my dad this past weekend.....we got a late start and didn't get to the water until 10:00 or so. Boy we knocked the fire out of em for an hour and a half. My dad isn't exactly a bass fisherman and spent most of his time chucking a squarebill....even he had his fair share. Most of mine came on a t rigged Rage Craw in green pumpkin. I absolutely love that lake....we didn't have any real big ones, but we sure did have good numbers.

Went to La Cygne this weekend with PB Russell.....holy smokes can you say hot and tough. 5 hours of fishing and not a single bite all day! Plus we forgot to get beer ugh..

OK guys....need advice. Bent the prop shaft on my Minn Kota Maxxum. It's a slight bend but causing a vibration. Do you guys have any suggestions on who I should take it to for repairs....or if this is something I can do myself?

Fished LaCygne this past weekend....that lake gets tough during the summer. I did catch one good one on the dam on the old faithful 10 inch worm. Also caught a FAT bluegill. At least it was a skunking haha

I was going to race those guys out at Wyandotte last night, but you had to pull up and ruin the fun. They thought they had a hot boat.....I'd have blown their doors off.

Went to Perry this weekend for the Kansas Buddy Bass tournament....boy we stunk it up. Couldnt find a single fish.....then had a spark plug blow out of our motor. From the factory a 2014 Mercury 300XS had every spark plug not torqued down. We were able to unscrew the other 5 with just our fingers. Haha oh well....the gremlins in my rod locker got loose that day. I decided to head to LaCygne yesterday to wash the skunk off. I had one hell of a day....including this big bruiser. She choked a War Eagle spinner bait in about two feet of water off the dam. She was 22 and 1/2 inches and THICK. I didn't have a scale, but I'm open to some guesses on weight if anyone wants to chime in!

I'm in the Kansas Buddy Bass.....I think we will have 30 boats or more out there. We are taking out of the state park ramp and I have a feeling it is going to be a PACKED house on that lake haha. Yea you weren't the only one sucking it up. I hit all of my normal spots that hold fish this time of year. I think the drum have taken over haha. One guy out there here recently caught a 17 pound bag of smallies out of Perry. Our tournament last year was won with 5 smallies as well.

Oh....the fish off the rock piles came on a green pumpkin Eakins jig with a rage tail craw trailer.

Well it's tournament time on Perry this weekend. Hope it was better than practice last Saturday......I ran all over that lake trying to find them, including doing a mud run up the river haha. That water color was chocolate milk way up on the North end of the lake. By the way if anyone is interested Wyandotte is on fire right now. I was getting bit the other night on Strike King Swiming Caffeine Shads and caught two good smallies off rock piles. By the way....does anyone know where the crane is in that lake? I want to go over it with my down scan and see if I can see it haha.

Re: Wyandotte County Lake
I noticed the bite seems to pick up right around dark...I'll probably go out and fish the tournament tomorrow. My buddy wont put his spinning rod down, but this go around I'm taking your advice and going with the big baits. Heck even if I get one bite on a 10 inch worm odds are that one will be a solid keeper. I don't think I saw any guys out there dragging a worm or a big jig. How do your bladed jigs do out there? I'm going to pick up a few of em at Mondo the next time I'm in there.....any color suggestions? haha

Looks like the same size I catch every tournament I fish lol.

I went out to Olathe Lake this weekend for a bit....that lake just looks fishy. I only caught two decent fish over 15 inches, but plenty of smaller ones. to be honest I was at the point of just wanting to feel something tug on the end of my line haha. Spinnerbait was the ticket. I did catch a 3 pound flathead on a senko right off the ramp to end the day so that was fun haha. If I'd have caught another those two might have gone home with me. By the way Blue.....you were right about the water being fairly trashed. It was pretty muddy.

Re: Wyandotte County Lake
I've had a decent day out there in the past so I know there are fish in there. I read a post on here a few days ago...(too lazy to go back and look) that said he did well on a jig and big worm. Thats one thing I haven't tried that I am going to try this evening. If you put a jig in my hand or a worm I'll soak that baby all day long. I just hope those fish arent too spooky to eat it!
