  1. Since I don't smoke in the house but rather in the garage......Where all my rods/reels and tackle are stored.......... I still catch with no problems. Me thinks that scents or attractors are for the fisherman to get caught and not necessarily fish. And about deer hunting and such..... While sitting in a blind, bored out of my mind because of nothing outside the stand, I fired one up. When I went to flick ashes out of the side window, I looked down only to find 3 does munching away underneath the left side of the stand. Couldn't smell the smoke? Couldn't smell me? Couldn't hear me rustling around? They don't care. ;D And neither did the squirrel that tried to use me as a tree when I was sitting down with my back leaning up against a tree, smoking. Skeered the carp out of him. ;D

They were GREAT in concert! Asleep at the Wheel was also with 'em. Picked up one of these for free. They were hung around the venue:

  6. What is it that you want to know about Austin specifically? Born, raised and lived around here (48 years). Yes, the cost of housing is above the average. Because its not Dallas or Houston! ;D ;D Yes, the music scene is, well, Austin Texas! 8-) Yes, there are GREAT hunting and fishing opportunites. Yes, we have THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS. 8-) Yes, we have seasons. Winter and summer. And it can be humid. Yes, Austin is growing because once folks visit, they have a tendency to stay! Yes, Austin's and surrounding area's crime rate is low, low, low. Petty stuff but hardly any violent crime. Austin metro population is roughly 1.5m. There were something like 33 murders. Compared to Houston with maybe 350 with only 3 times the population. More folks die in traffic accidents than violent crime. No, its not full of hippies. Not anymore. :'( No, there is not really a loop being built but rather a series of freakin' TOLL WAYS! > No, Austin is no more of haven for alternative lifestyles than any other metro area in the state. Come for visit and a beer, enjoy the music and scenery!
  7. Who is the lead guitarist? Roger's shows are 8-).
  8. Fisher, The name of the venue is called The Backyard. Its an oudoor ampitheatre, sort of. Last month, I caught "The Last of the Breed" tour there. Willie, Merle, Ray Price and Asleep at the Wheel. This was the 4th time to see ZZ. My last time before this was in 1985 in the Astrodome with Sanata, Joe Ely and assorted others. Edit: The latest song they played was "Sharp Dressed Man".
  9. Re: Global Warming And Effect On Fishing Whether man induced or natural is not the point. The point is the subject, so...... Down here in central Texas, where I have lived all my life of 48 years, I used to fish bedders in Feb through April. Now, its Dec through March. Likely culprit? Water temp. What controls water temp? My fishing logs have seen a significant shift within the last 10 years. Any other possible explanations?
  10. Next up is Leon Russell this Saturday.
  11. 2 - 8.5lbers One on a 1/4oz white single-bladed Fleck spinnerbait The other on a 1/4oz chartreuse single-willow Fleck spinnerbait. Shallow water! 8-)

Ipod for 3 years. No problems. Still working and the battery still plays for 15 hours. Use it every day. Use it every time on the boat. Just keep it out of direct sun light. 8-)
  14. I love Lake Austin. It is now tied for the #4 lake along with Bob Sandlin, producing Sharelunkers behind Fork, Henry and Rayburn.
  15. Small water....quiet. Rec lakes.......who cares about noise. Cig boats make more noise than I do rock and rolling. Besides..... Doesn't Ike yell, scream and dance on the front deck after he catches a fish, then drops his line right back in the same hole???
  16. A buddy of mine popped a very nice 10pt melanistic buck. He thought nothing of it until he saw that it had BLUE eyes. This was back in the early 80's on my parentals place in Bastrop county which is adjacent to Travis county (blackland prairie). I'll try and find the old photos and scan them. It was a really 8-)COOL looking deer. He now wishes he had a shoulder mount made. :'(
  17. Seeing that there is only one natural lake in Texas, I fish man made. But a variety..... "highland" - (Lake Travis and Georgetown) deep (up to 180ft), crystal clear. No veggies. 1300-18,000 acres. Power plant - (Bastrop or Fayette) mostly shallow and clear. Lots of veggies. 800-1300 acres. (currently in pre-spawn ) low lands - (Choke Canyon) mostly shallow and murky. Lots of veggies and timber. 26,000 acres River lakes - (Austin, Town) crystal clear. Lots of veggies. 500-1800 acres.
  18. No don't about up yonder in Kansas...... But down here on power plant lakes, we wait until the water temp gets DOWN to the magic temp. Currently, on one local lake, it is between 61-68 and the bass are going into pre-spawn with some bucks wanting to bed. In all the years fishing this lake, we have also realized that more often than not, there is more than one spawn. We can find them in September/October as well. Just not very many.

1/8 - 1/4oz even in the grass with a big enough trailer that slows it down.
  20. Sorry for the late reply...... I was fishing pre-spawn! ;D ;D ;D
  21. Coins, gold coins specifically. Been doing that since I was 5 yrs old. Over 20,000 (not all gold) and counting.
  22. Cuz bass look like footballs?
  23. Woo Hoo is right, Raul. Already sight fishing here in Central Texas on some of the warmer lakes. We have had a very mild winter with last weeks temps in the 70's. That is until the recent 7" deluge with tornadoes Saturday followed by 4 days of ice, sleet and snow with temps not above freezing. That'll push them off beds. But hey, back in the 60's come next Monday. Enjoying spawn from Jan thru June in Central Texas. 8-) ;D
  24. or out to the secondary ledge or point.
