When the coots arrive, it signals shallow fall bassin! 8-) In all my years, I have NEVER seen a flock of coots flying. They just seem to "show up". Such carpy take offs, we decided they walk down from the north.

I see a big ole 80 dropped on the 'fins in Foxboro in December.

Have had one for 4 years now (fishing only). In Texas, its $600 for fishing and $1200 for the fishing/hunting combo. At the rates when I bought it, it would pay for itself in 13 years. Now because of rate increases, it will pay for itself in less than 10 years! One advantage I've found is that when checked by the GW, they usually will stop the boat inspection after I show them the lifetime. Figures that anyone who obtains a lifetime is a true sportsman and obeys the law. Just personal experience, mind you.

I think I'll be wearing a cup to the Shootout this year. ;D BTW, is it too early for a little of this....

My best weather station is my left knee. Aching and its going to rain. : Avid, Read up on your local wives-tails for weather predictions. For instance, we have a shrub called Texas sage. When it blooms, there is a very good chance that it will rain within 24 hrs. Just as reliable as some high-falutin weather instruments.

All of the area lakes are closed except for Bastrop, Fayette and Buch. None will be open until the 10th. That is if we don't get the 6-8 inch rains expected today and tomorrow! : But some of the releases at the areas dams are pretty impressive! FYI....Two months ago....... Travis was at 646. This morning, its 700 and still rising. Conservation pool level is 681. The all-time record level is 711 in 1991. Spillway is at 714. They are releasing over 20,000cfs out of 4 of 24 gates on Mansfield Dam. Georgetown was at 771. This morning, its 821 and still rising. Conservation pool level is 791. They are not releasing any water as this lake eventually heads to the Brazos which is flooding.
