To borrow a phrase.... The only thing different between a good ole Texas woman and a pitbull is lipstick.

Austin Texas fishing
Around Red Bud, go with the flow. There is usually some current going on. Pretend you're river fishing and not impoundment. Also check where Barton Creek enters the lake.

That will teach them
Don't mess with a Texas landowner. Ever.

Austin Texas fishing
Walk the Hike and Bike Trails. If the fish ain't biting, the scenery is, well, fantastic. Always had good luck behind the Statesman building and at Red Bud island.

I reckon it might be hot...
Time for schoolies when the air temps are near 100 and so is the water temp. Ok, the lake is a cooling pond and the highest water temp I ever saw there was 105 in the outlet. But out on the main lake, it was a very cool 100. And acres of schoolies! 8-)

Your largest largemouth
8.5+ (just guessing, never weighed) and 23". As you can see, on a white 1/4oz Fleck spinnerbait. And it hit with that amount of line out. Didn't have to reel once. 8-)

anyone flown with fishing rods lately?
I flew international last year with no extra fees. But a year can change things. I would look into maybe shipping ahead of time. Call your host and arrange. And it would be cheaper than $150. Lake Fork, huh? 8-)

Bush Sr.'s Tarpon

IMPO, this is just uncalled for :-(
We used to string 'em up. It showed the neighbors that coyotes were around and dispatched. Besides, there was a bounty to be had if you brought the ears to the county courthouse. $8 a pair.

AX-MEN the series on TLC??
Interesting show. Now I know what my cousin in Canada went through until a tree fell on him that screwed his back and took a nice chunk out of his leg. He's a fishing guide now. 8-)

Newbie - Central Texas Honey Holes
Yea, they're spawning on that lake because it's a powerplant lake, and has hot water discharge... I fished a tourny in a storm Feb 16th there, LITERALLY like a few days before they started...actually i think some had started, but the bad weather had pushed them off. I caught 4 doobers to weigh in though, and a few fish in the 2-4lb range. Actually, Bastrop starts its spawn in mid-December. Earliest we've seen was Thanksgiving weekend a few years back. We hit Travis this past Friday and saw a few on beds there. Temps are correct, 62-67 in the backs of coves but at sun-up, the temps were in the mid to upper 50s. Austin is next. Should be in pre-spawn there as its waters come from the bottom of 180' deep Travis. That should last until end of May. Central Texans have the chance to fish spawn almost 6 months of the year if you play your cards right! 8-)

Thermostat What's yours set at?
In the winter, it depends on the weather. Its a constant switch from heat to A/C and then back again. Heat - usually around 60-62 A/C - usually around 68-72. Yesterday, we had the heater going. The day before, the A/C. Today, neither. Tomorrow, A/C. Saturday, probably nothing. Sunday, heater. If you don't like one or the other, give it a minute. The weather will change.
