I was looking to purchase a Fenwick elite tech bass 7'medium casting rod and notice the lure weight recommendation is 3/8 to 5/8 and the medium heavy is 1/4 to 3/4. Would there be a reason the medium heavy rod would have a lower recommended weight? I want this for throwing light top water, buzzbaits and 1/4 oz lipless cranks.
I know I'm probably overthinking it but just curios as I'm trying to pay attention to this stuff now that I'm buying nicer stuff.
I appreciate your input... I'll have to pick up one of the Strike King Chrome Bluebacks and Lucky Craft Pointer is MS Ghost Herring (looks incredible).
Maybe it really doesn't matter to the fish as it does to me but there just doesn't seem to be many great deep diving colors resembling the blue back.
Thanks again
I fish Lake Hartwell in SC and the blue back herring seems to be the main forage. Just wanted you're thoughts on what crankbait some of you use to resemble this baitfish.
I have looked at the blueback version of the rapala and the strike king (sexy blueback) but neither really looks like a blueback to me but i'm no expert.
Thanks
I mainly fish open water and throw dt 6 and 10 more than anything else. I've always thrown crankbaits with a 7' 1" medium fast action *** black rod with a bb1 pro and I feel like casting distance is my biggest problem. If I got a medium heavy moderate action rod, would I gain any distance vs the medium fast action?
Robert Riley, sounds like you're saying the 7'4" Mojo Crankster would not be the best for dt 10 and occasionally a dt 16?
Looking at buying a dedicated crankbait rod for medium diving cranks (dt 10 and strike king series 5) and want to know your thoughts on which of these rods would be the better fit.
Also, I'm looking at using a lews bb1 pro, lews tp, or lews tournament lite to match rod... Recommendations would be appreciated.
