Troutfisher

For all you who like to eat fish, here's a recipe for you, taught to me by the bass player in my bluegrass band. "Troutfisher's Easy To Make, Easy To Use Trout Recipe" Ingredients: Number of trout desired to fix Fish batter Cooking Oil Large pan Pair of tongs for removing and turning fish Step 1: Get however many trout fillets you wish to fix. When cleaning fish, clear out inside of fish and remove head, tail, and fins, leaving only skin, bones, and meat. Step 2: Thoroughly rinse fish in cold water. Step 3: Roll fish in fish batter mix, inside of the fish and out. Step 4: Heat oil in pan to medium/high heat. After oil is warm, put 2-3 fish fillets in the skillet (depending on however many fish can fit in the pan) Step 5: After fish have cooked and are crispy, remove from frying pan and let oil drain from them. Here's the trick! Step 7: Before eating the fish, grab the backbone of the fish and peel it out. This will take out most of the bones, without the mess of having to do it beforehand. Be sure the fish has cooled before you try this. Step 8: Enjoy!

I'll have to disagree with some of you guys on Eagle Claw hooks. I love them, they're the only brand that I buy. I can't stand any lure on television, especially that rocket rod thing that launches the lure...that stupid thing wouldn't handle a sizeable size bass. Go to Dick's Sporting Goods and spend $40 on a nice rod and reel combo and teach your kids to fish on that.

Try fishing in some single digits...that's what I fished in for trout the other day.

I love fishing, but I also love the outdoors and scenery as well, most especially in the eastern mountains of my state of West Virginia. I wanted to post some of my favorite pictures of outdoors and scenery. Here are a few of my personal favorites. The Greenbrier River in Pocahontas County, WV. A fawn running from us in Pocahontas County. My favorite trout stream, the Cherry River in Nicolas County, WV. The Williams River in Pocahontas County. The Highland Scenic Highway in Pocahontas County. The Williams River in Pocahontas County. A grouse in full strut in Pocahontas County. It's no wonder most of these pictures are in Pocahontas County; it's my most favorite place to be. Anyone else have any other favorite outdoor photos?

Bring out "ole faithful" (the 12 gauge shotgun that is lying around the boat) and begin to shoot at any fish you see. Really though, if I've fished for a while in a convincing spot with several different techniques, I will stop fishing for a few minutes and re-evaluate the spot and what I'm using.

Today was an interesting day! With no school, I woke up and drove over to Ridenour Lake in Nitro, WV, with the temperature being 13 degrees and some snow on the ground. I fished for 2 and 1/2 hours and only managed to catch one small rainbow. I then drove to Catfish Cove Pay Lake beside Dairy Queen in Milton, WV. I caught 3 trout there, the best being a 16 incher. I also caught one strange trout missing its upper lip (check out the pics below). Catfish Cove Pay Lake in Milton. One of the three trout I caught at Catfish Cove. The deformed trout! I had to fish around some ice, but it was still a good day. I'm looking forward to some golden brown trout fillets!

It's $760 for a lifetime fishing license here in WV. Sportsman's license is only $33.
