What do you remember about your "formulative" year's bass fishing?
I remember fishing a big old stump in our local river for crappie with my dad, sitting for hours as they would move in and out. When my Dad died I had him cremated and I took his ashes, a sixpack of old milwakee beer (his favorite)as well as a casstte tape of the 1812 Overture again his favorite. I played the music drank 3 beers and poured 3 into the river and spread his ashes. I figured I talk to him 15-20 times year every time I went fishing down there. Still miss him 13 years later

Shocking: CAUGHT OVERBAGGING, 141 SMALLMOUTHS!!
You notice they didn't go to Dale Hollow or Center Hill and do that. For that reason alone they need to hang em cause they knew what they were doing.... >

Early Fall Fishing ~ Take Two
I am toooooo envious. Your wife did a great job

does it pay to get out before sunrise this time of year ?
for me the actual fishing is just a part of the trip, granted I love to catchem but to see the sun come up and listen to the countryside wakeup is really special. Having had some surgery for cancer this spring has made every trip wonderful and yes I feel the morning bite is the best for size (just my opinion)

Need some help on lures
Thanks to both of you for the input. Lipped you are right hopefully the water will cool down a little by then. I really wish they were in deep water don't get me wrong I like catching smallmouth anywhere. But I really like the slow serious concentration of a jig droping off ledges as well as dropping a buddy down a bank watching that line. My wife goes with me sometimes and says Joe if you had paid as much attention in school as you do fishing that jig you would have been the smartest kid in the class instead oh well we won't go there . again thanks maybe as we get closer lipped you wouldn't mind sharing the water temps or any thing else. I am really fired up for this trip...

smallmouth in Brookville,Indiana Lake
Thanks for the info what is the water temp?

Need some help on lures
I'm hitting Brookville lake in eastern Indiana the 1st week in October deep lake pretty clear not sure what the water temps will be they may be shallow feeding b4 the water temp drops. I don't fish a jerkbait much but could this be a possiblility. The lake has an abundance of shad not sure what kind 1-3 inches in length. If they are deep (my preference) I have the tools and hopefully the know how but shallow for smallies is new for me. I am open to suggestions. Been off the fishin scene for a few months Big C this is my first major trip hoping to not smell skunk

I have terrible luck pitchin a 1/4 oz jig + a trailer on 20 # test (line memory) has anyone used 14# line with little memory if so what brand (no Fluorcarbon too $)

3.x gear ratio reel
Quantum made a gold colored 3.81 to 1 reel in 1984 ( i have a few ) great for deep divin cranks as well as I like them for carolina rigs. I have a tendancy to fish tooooo fast that cures that problem. For jerk baits I want like Warrior a fast retrieve to keep caught up with the fish...
