St Clair 2011

Featured Replies

Anyone planning a trip to Lake St Clair this year? I'm planning on it mid May. I hope it turns out better then last year.

I had one good evening last year.  Hooked into about 30 fish in about an hr.  The rest was tough fishing.

planning on last fri in april thru next tuesday. First trip last year smoked them. 6.4 was the biggest followed by (2) 6.2's we thought we had died and went to Heaven. Can't wait :D

I'm hoping on mid may.  I hope the water is not muddy like last time.  That plus the strong winds made it a bit rough.

Guys,

Unless the laws are changed both largemouth and smallies are out of season on Lake St. Clair until the 4th Saturday in June. This applies to Michigan and Ontario waters. Both will ticket you if you are obviously targeting bass.

MI has changed that a couple years ago. They have a catch and release.

Yeah I will be there at least once every week starting as soon as the C and R season starts.  I can't wait.  Mid may is probably the best time to go but weather can be tough.  Ive been out there in 4 footers when hours before it was glass.  Make sure you have a boat that can handle tough weather.  Good luck.

Strong winds make for good jerkbait fishing.  ;)

Make a trip every year at the end of May.  The last two years we missed the "bite" by a week late.  Still caught about 45 in one day with the smallest being about 2lbs and the largest 4.9lbs.

I love LSC.  always fish the US side from Metro down the mile roads...

I'm in the works of planning the trip.  I'm trying to figure out what week I want.  Mid or late may.  Hmm

My friends and I were thinking about heading up there some time in mid-late August. Hope it's not too hot!

Always a favorite of mine!  We stay on CN side, Mitchell's Bay, last week of May or first week of June.  Youngest is graduating HS this year, gonna throw a party, so this year it's Memorial Day weekend and the week after.  With all this snow/slush/junk, can't wait.

If ya'all wanna try your hands at new water, come with me to Saginaw Bay. Fishing is as good, if not better and there is no crowds.  Both size and numbers are on the bay.  A lot of 75 fish days in may, with a lot of fish over 5 lbs. Bring your rigs, and we can go out as a group.

if a bunch of us get out on LSC in the same May period, we should get together somewhere for dinner and a pop or 2...if its feasible.

Is the season even open that early?  I thought C&R opened May 15th.  And Canada is completely forbidden until the end of June.

Michigan C&R season on LSC: last Sat in Apr to the Fri before 3rd Sat in June...when reg season starts.

Ontario LSC season opens 4th Sat of June with no C&R season at all.

I dont fish the Ontario side early but I do spend many days fishing the Michigan side during C&R season.

Joe's dates make perfect sense, now, LOL.

I remember suffering closed seasons for many years here in NY.

We always go the friday before musky and sat (the musky opener, I believe the first sat in june) most of us target the smallies but once in a while pickup the musky stick.  This last year was quit tuff, the water was very dirty but we still caught over 200 keeper size smallies with 3 boats in a day and a half.  We also got 5 muskies as well.

We always put in at selfridge and fish from the salt river flats south to the marina and alway find plenty of action.

Probably about once a week starting mid May depending on the water color. If it's not muddied up the bite will be phenomenal as it is every year. Come down and have yourself a 30 or 40 fish day. Bring plenty of white spinner baits, the giant Muskies like to take them home with them.

J Franc, I don't know if I could wait much longer than that. I actually went up this last weekend to ST Clair to see my son and his wife. We checked out different areas (river access in case wind up or muddy) great places to eat up that way also. Coming back to Illinois Monday took 12 1/2 hrs usually a 7 hr drive roads unbelievable.. come on April 28th driving motorhome up this time
