  1. make myself use the depthfinder more to eliminate some water then force myself to slow down and fish water 15-30' with a jig, carolina rig and a shakey head. :-X
  2. I think they TV networks are doing it all wrong they need to have the fishiong shows on during hunting season and the hunting on during the spring thru fall. In the spring I am fishing not watching tv and in the winter Illnois winters are not good for keeping open water and I need my fix. I don't hunt but if I did i would want (i think) to see hunting shows prior to pulling the trigger time. just my 2 cents worth...
  3. Dwight that is a great way to finish , start, or fill in the middle. Beeeeutiful fish
  4. (I voted Other) actually a Silver Buddy or colored varition of one.
  5. luv em myself I use texas rigged almost exclusively never pegged usually 1/8 oz worm weight witha 3/0-4/0 wide gap on 3 1/2 to 5" tube like road kill camo alot but use Black neon most of the time for largejaws..
  6. North American fisherman is even worse. I cancelled both them as well as BASS so they gained nothing from me bt this shady way of doing biz...
  7. My wife says I am twisted and blames McManus to some degree also. I have 3-4 of his books which I haven't read for some time your post causes me to think maybe its time to break them out again.... :
  8. Silver buddy came thru again Sunday, no smallies but a 20+ lb golden Carp by the tail! 36 degrees wind out of the west 20-28+mph white capping but my buddy and I the fools we are , are still trying. About the time I am ready to say lets move to some calm back water Bam the buddy stops and goes the other way. I am using a 7 1/2 ' med heavy bc witha Quantum burner with 10 lb test too lazy to put something a little heavier on. This bad boy ran drag like crazy and I thought oh man a real toad....It never quit running drag so i got on the TM then knew it was a big cat or something last year about same time got a 12lb cat on a buddy. After about a 10-15 minute stretch I got him too the net( didn't want to lose my buddy) I had snagged him in the tail!! I know no smallmoth but still warmed me up and we got a heckuva laugh at it. I would post some fish pictures caught on buddies if I knew how.. :-/
  9. well sat , rain, sleet, wind caught four large mouth no smallies today caught 3 large head and the new world record smallmouth it was golden brown smallmouth carp 20+ lbs snagged in the tail on a silver buddy. You talk about fun! I was froze but after I stuck him I warmed quickly....That first split second I had visions of smallmouth Grandeur on that rod but once it ran drag like a buick in that cold water I knew better. But still fun! Great friend great steaks cold beer and my Ceeeegars what a weekend.
  10. yep 1/2 oz is my favorite. I powder coat them white ,black and kinda bronze brown. I use snap rings on hooks and line tie. I like mustad triple grip . I also use weedless hooks for river fishing and weed lines in the summer. One thing about buddies I feel is most guys yank then too high use just your wrist not your whole arm. if you do this when you flip your wrist if she is there you can then use your arm to set the hook(not slam it hard either). Man sound like a know it all but I really love this bait.In the summer time I have even used a 3/4 oz on Ky lake off the ledges in deep water and caught just about anything that swims.... :
  11. My pb is a 7.2 from dale 5 years ago in 30+ fow bouncing a 1/8 oz hairjig with a u2 porkrind down a deeeep bluff wall near the dam slow fishing but my partner from the same exact spot 10 minutes later got a 5.6 . But my heart of hearts says same as previous poster buddy+cold water+ miserable above water conditions (snow, sleet rain)
  12. Going for smallmouth tomorrow and Sunday. Calling for temp drop from 48 to 34, 20-30 mph winds from the NW possible snow or rain.. Fishing a northern Indiana lake deepest water around 30' current water temp 38-40. MY take wind blown banks with ledges silver buddy. there are 2-3 points off into 30' water with small creeks on one side. Maybe hairfly, if able to fish cause of the wind! Not going is not an option too old and life is passing by too fast as it is. Any and all advice appreciated....Joe G
  13. I live in central Illinois . 1 1/2 hr drive to newton (hot water discharge),1 1/2 hr drive to Turtle Creek (hot water discharge) WHY winterize? Dress for it, put a bucket with a coleman lantern in it. Fish slow take plenty of coffee. make a map as you slowly cruise the lake, find stucture you fly over in the summer.. Life is short at age 65 you will be too tired or in poor health so say some...as they say JUST DO IT !!!!! My boat would probably never start if I let her sit for a couple months even with stabil and a full charge she would be ticked. ;D
  14. thanks,, I'll try a couple of those
