If you just want one, I'll suggest the Lucky Craft Pointer 100 in Baby Bass (green). Another is the Rapala Husky Jerk (Silver Blue) with an orange belly. A third would be Rapala X-Rap (08) in all white (Glass Ghost), (3 1/8", 1/4 oz).

p.s. I left out Smithwick Rattlin' Rogues because the quality of the lure is inconsistant. You need to test, tweak and sometimes return them before you fish the lures, but they ARE fish catchin' machines when they're right!

thanks,, I'll try a couple of those

Agree with RW about low costing X-raps and Husky Jerks. For cold water (spring or fall) you can't beat the hard jerk minnow. When I pour my own soft jerk sticks, I use a harder plastic and have found they excel when used in colder vs warmer water. That drop in temp seems to get them feeding and attacking near-surface wobblers that suspend in place and shimmy with the slightest rod twitch and pause. In my waters, the fluke's usefulness will end soon, being replaced by hard jerks.

A shad rap RS works well as a suspending jerkbait if you just use short pulls instead of hard jerks.
