  1. thanks jiggin' Ya they were there, I'd get a few followers after the bite slowed down and they would show themselves, but the mood of the fish completely changed. They completely crushed the spinnerbait I was throwing, then they started to slap at it, or short strikes, then nothing. kinda weird. Water was stained. Couldn't get them fired up again, but I kept trying! I just couldn't figure it out after the spinnerbait bite died, and had no idea what was really going on, even with the shad right up against the bank the whole day
  2. Hey all, I was fishing yesterday morning from the bank at a lake here in San Diego. I was throwing a spinnerbait parallel to the bank and caught 4, 4lbers using a sexy shad spinner bait, and a squarebill. These fish were chasing shad for about the first 3 hours of the morning, then after they, the fish completely shut down and nothing bit until very late in the day. My question is, what do you do when the shad bite completely dies and the fish shut down, do you try to get reaction strikes, or slow down and fish with a jig/worm or something on those lines. After the bite died, I was throwing a shakey head and got bit once but lost the fish; I tried throwing a jig, weightless Senko, and small swimbaits, but nothing would bite. Is it normal for shad lakes, after the fish are done chasing shad, to just completely shut down, or do the fish tend to move out into deeper water that I just couldn't get too. I know some fish are spawning in my neck of the woods, so that might also have to do with the bite, but not really sure as this is my first spring fishing for bass and not to mention I don't have much experience fishing shad lakes. I could see the shad everywhere right up close to the bank the whole day. Also, in shad lakes, Do the bass tend to eat at certain times of the day, and then shut down during the non-feeding periods? I'm asking, because I will be getting a boat hopefully in the next few months and will be able to move around much more than from the bank lol, and want to know what kind of techniques that could be useful to catch those fish that aren't necessarily active after the shad bite dies.
  3. I can't wait to move out of CA, everything is political with the supermajority libs, I have no representation in my own state. I'm not the only one who feels that way, or ill move to the state of Jefferson if that ever goes through, but its still dry up there!
  4. I really wish they did, I would love too see a classic out here, theres just so much bias towards the east coast and the south, kinda like ESPN with the SEC. It bugs me!!!! I would love too see that too, such a great fishery!
  5. Will they ever have a classic on the west coast?
  6. tournament pro is my favorite. I have the super duty which is also a great reel, and also just recently had a lews team lite, but sold it because I felt it wasn't worth the extra money over the tournament pro. ColdSVT is right, I've found the tournament pro as low as $140 new, and for that price, I feel they are unbeatable
  7. haha I really liked the micro magic, they are really good rods for the money, but something about the avid x just gets me going
  8. I had a micro magic, sold it and bought an avid x, never looking back
  9. i have a 7 m/f spinning avid x. Ive never used the standard avid, but I really do love both of the avid x's that I have. I also really like the micro guides.
  10. I also have one. no complaints at all, to me its really smooth and casts far. I love it. I don't have a bb1 pro but have a super duty and tournament pro, and to me its smoother and casts farther than both, but it is really light, if I put the team lite on a rod that's longer than 7 ft, the rods get really tip heavy, while with my super duty and tournament pro, my rods longer than 7 ft aren't tip heavy at all and balance the rods much better. I use it on my squarebill/shallow cranking rod and its great to fish with
  11. for me positives: I re-found my love for fishing after taking a "break" for probably eight or so years (football and baseball took up that time lol). Now Im addicted, and can't get bass out of my head! Negatives: senior year of college takes up way to much time, and can barely get out on the water, graduation needs to come faster haha so on that, I'd give myself a C, because I haven't been on the water that much, but I try and make it count every time.
  12. I love my super duty for flipping and pitching, especially the 8.1
  13. you can get tournament pro's for about $150 new if you look around online. In my opinion, for $150, tournament pro's are the best out there for that price. I love my tournament pro
  14. I don't flip very much at all but I use a St. Croix Avid X 7'4 H/F with a Lews Super Duty 8.0:1 for pitching, I love this setup.
  15. awesome, thanks! Now this gives me an excuse to buy a metanium lol
  16. Thinking of maybe picking up a metanium as well, how is the shipping? is it reliable coming from Japan?
  17. I don't have one, but have heard good things about them. I love the fact that Lew's supports our troops with something like this, wish more companies did the same!
  18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7xyFzjEmLo just saw this, Amart talking about the micro wave guides and his new rod
  19. Im also debating on getting a 7'3 mh LTB as I have a couple of Avid X's now, and I absolutely love them. On my Avid X 7'4 H and 7'0 MH, the balance point is about an inch to an inch and a half in front of the reel ( tourney pro on all of them), and the same even goes for my 7'3mh micro magic, but my rods do not feel tip heavy to me. Would it be some-what similar with the LTB? Im thinking of pickup up the 7'3 ltb for deep stuff like a Carolina rig, and football jig, but I also want to use it for some pitching. The only problem is no one in my area has any LTB's for me to even look at lol, closest bass pro is 4 hours away.
  20. I wish they made a tourney pro in a 8, but I have the super duty in 8.0:1 and I love it for flipping and pitching, helps me get more pitches out in less time and be more efficient. I have a team lite, but I'll stick with my tourney pro's as to me they feel much more sturdy and fit better in my hand. I use the team lite in 6.8:1 for squarebills and shallow cranks, the tp in 7.1:1 for everything else, and the super duty for heavy cover flipping and pitching. I have not used the tournament mb, but might pick one up later down the road just because I like the really high gear ratio's. If Lew's made a tourney pro in a 8, then I would definitely buy some
  21. Have you tried out any of the im-8 rods yet? Thinking of maybe picking one up and seeing how it compares to my micro magic and avid x
  22. Lews super duty 8.0:1 with 20-25 lb shooter
  23. I've never used the bb1 pro, but for me, the tourney pro and super duty are where its at
  24. I've got a super duty 8:1, and has 35" per turn. I love it and only use that reel for my pitching/flipping, more than enough power. It just flat out performs
