What Length/action Rod For Trout Fishing?
Don't go shorter than 5 foot 6. I have a 5 foot shimano that I use for trout and panfish and I can't cast over 15feet. This is fine for small stream trout but when I try to use it on my local bluegill pond I can't do everything I want. Get a light or ultralight medium action rod

Officially Hooked
Today I went on my first fly fishing trip for trout on the south platte in Colorado. I have never fly fished before and it was really windy, so casting was hard to pick up, and we had to use nymphs. It was very slow for the first hour or so and I missed the hookset on the few fish that bit my rig. Once I got the hang of it, though, I was hooked. I caught many rainbows and cutbows in the 6-10 inch range and I was having fun with them, then my guide put me on a great hole. I caught a pb 14 inch rainbow that was FAT! I was happy with that, but then I threw another cast to the same spot. I hooked another rainbow that fought me for 5 minutes. I beat my new record with this second fish-16-17 inches and quite the fatty too. The 5 minute fight didn't tire him out al the way, either, and he slithered out of my hand 3 times. Long story short, I am now addicted.

Basic Salt Water Set Up
This summer i will be going to Florida (near Cape Canaveral). I'd like to bring a fishing rod to fish the banana river. First of all, what could i most likely catch from shore/ a dock? Second, what type of setup would be good for this. I was thinking about getting an ugly stik and making sure I rinse the reel out often because I don't want to spend a ton of money on something I will only use maybe once a year. Would this work or will the reel die quickly?

Why So Many Rods?
I am in your same position. I have 2 rods: 1 for bass (M 6'6 spinning) and one for trout and panfish (ul 5ft spinning). You just learn to adjust. I just dont use big swimbaits, for instance, because i dont have the right setup.

What Is A Good Price To Pay For A Beginner Fly Combo
I am thinking about buying a fly fishing setup to fish for trout. I'm looking at a 8 to 8"6 five weight combo. There is such a large selection that I don't know what price range to start in. I have read that a cheaper rod is bad, especially to learn on, but I don't have much money to spend(less than 100 is ideal). Any suggestions on either a price range to look in or a specific combo? New! I saved up more money and ended up buying an echo carbon with a cabelas prestige plus reel. I haven't been able to use it on a trout stream yet but have been practicing on a neighborhood pond and I'm starting to get the hang of it( it's a fairly moderate action, got to get used to letting the rod load) but I love it so far.

Daiwa Spinmatic For Trout
I have been looking at the daiwa spinmatic ultralight rods in either 6 or 6 1/2 foot 2 piece. I'll use it mainly for trout in rivers and streams, and panfish or trout in ponds every once in a while. Right now a have a 5 foot shimano that can barely get my spinner across a 10 foot wide stream, so I want a longer rod, which I can also use in lakes, ponds, or larger rivers. are these rods any good, which length should I get, or is there a better rod for a comparable price?

What Is Your Favorite Species Outside Of Bass And Why?
Trout for sure. Nothing like a mountain stream on a summer morning catching these little rockets on an ultra light combo. Rainbows especially, because of there acrobatics above the water. Plus, its the best fishing that Colorado (where I live) has to offer in my opinion.

Casting Distance
Thanks everyone. I know a longer rod would help but I got this one to use around lots of vegetation on the bank. I'll try the mono.

Casting Distance
I have a 5 foot ultra light rod that I use for trout and panfish. I had 4lb Berkeley vanish fc and I liked the invisibility, but I can barely cast it with such a short rod. I think that I'll switch to some monofilament for next year, but do you think will it really help?

Pb Rainbow
How was the fight? What kind of setup were you using? I've never caught one like that, do they still jump and shoot around like the little guys?

Mono Or Flouro?
I've tried flouro in my ultralight rod and I like the invisibility. Don't go over 4lb test, though. I tried 6lb on a light action rod and casted it a max of 5 feet. If I were you I would go with mono because it's way easier to use and cheaper. I'm going to put some new mono on all my rods this year.

Spinner Colors For Trout?
I've heard that you can target the type of trout with lure color. Apparently silver spinner blades land more rainbows, gold for Browns, and bronze for brookies. Is this true? I've never tried to target species, I just fish for trout in general, but if this is generally accurate it could help target specific fish in the water I'm fishing.
