Ice Fishing Basics?
I have never been ice fishing but it seems like a good way to scratch the itch to fish during the colder months. I don't know how to get started though. What can I catch? Can I use my normal rod or do i need a new ice rod? How do I safely make the hole? How do i know when the ice is thick enough to walk on? Where are the fish? Any thing you can tell me helps and if I didnt ask a question I should know the answer to please tell me. Thanks for the help!

Planned Trips Or Short And Impromptu
When you fish, do you usually go on trips planned well in advance or do you just grab your gear and go when ever you want? Usually my dad and I will fish on a weekend morning and decide to go a day or two before.

What Is Your Go To Store For Gear?
I live closest to Gander mountain so I get most of my stuff from there but I like bass pro's selection. I think Gander is cheaper, though, and they have sales alot

Why Do You Fish
Same. I've never fished a tournament because to me fishing should be calm and stress free.

Why Do You Fish
Very true, getting a bite is exciting when you can't see what's down there.

Why Do You Fish
Wish I could fish year round here in Colorado

Why Do You Fish
This is another thing I love. I get so excited going through my tackle box before a trip.

Why Do You Fish
Obviously we all love to fish. I think I love it because fish are interesting to me, and so are lures and the waters I fish. Fishing is like solving a puzzle: hard to figure out but it is rewarding. Its also a peaceful time and usually quality time between me and my dad. So why do you love to fish?

Biggest Fish You've Ever Seen (But Not Caught....)
it has to eat somethin. Try catchin a average size bass and rigging it like youd rig a live blue gill or shad

Biggest Fish You've Ever Seen (But Not Caught....)

Prefer Pond Fishing
Pond for sure. The fish are so much more accessible in a pond from shore. I am only a shore fisherman, so ponds are easier to get around and find fish. At least to me, ponds tend to be less busy, too, so that's a plus. Never tried a river for bass, but that sounds cool too. I just don't like big bodies of water, too much time looking for fish, not enough catching them.

Bomber Square A
I bought my first squarebills today. I got the 1/4oz square a's in oxbow bream, baby bass, white, and Tennessee shad. I got them because they were cheap and, like I said, I've never used them before so I didnt want to make a huge investment. Any advice on fishing them ( where, when to fish them, with what, etc)?

Pond Or Lake Which Is It??
to me there is no distinct line between a lake and pond. If it seems big, its a lake, if it seems small, its a pond. At least it is to me.

Watching Fish
The other day I was fishing a pond with pretty clear water(5-6 ft vis) with my polarized sunglasses on a sunny day around noon. Needless to say, I could see everything my lure and the fish around it did. I was using a small 1 inch white worm weightless because i was targeting bluegill. I never knew there were even bass in the pond, but they were shallow and I could see them that day. With each cast, at least five bass, mostly little dinks but a few larger bass, would follow it and occasionally bite. Most, however, never bit or hooked up. So I was wondering how many fish are curious but not biting on those days or those spots where there are "just no fish". Now I'll try to be more patient with my presentation and how long i fish spots.

Lures /tackle We Haven't Used Yet To This Day
Im strictly a bank fisherman, so i only keep enough to fill my tackle bag, which means 3 flambeau boxes full of terminal tackle and hard-baits, along will plastics and line. This is a good way to limit myself, cause when i step foot in a tackle shop to buy one thing, i end up leaving with 50$ worth of stuff if I'm not carefull.

Catching The Wrong Species
to me there is no "wrong species". I typically target one species on a trip, but if i reel in something else, I'm not mad, at least i caught something! I typically use small plastics, so anything is fair game.

Weird Rigging
Yup. When the fish are jumping, I like to burn it near the surface like a bee or spider is hitting the water.

Weird Rigging
got this for a buck in a 15 pack, so i just thought id try this. Also my rod doesnt have a hook keeper, but i make sure i never put the hook on the inside of the eye, always on the arms.
